The most interesting proposal comes from Australia. The young filmmaker Josiah Allen debuts with his first film after having made several short films. It is a story in the horror genre, with a psychological game that fascinates by the way it is structured. It takes place almost entirely in a single location with two main characters. In what appears to be a kind of car park for people who live in caravans, there is a very nervous man named Patrick. We don't quite know what is going on. It is night and there is a heavy storm. Suddenly there's a knock on the door of his caravan and it's a girl who needs help. Who is she? Where is she from? Who is who in this story? This last question is the most intriguing and will be answered later in the film. The filmmaker has a good pulse for handling the tension and there are a couple of plot twists that add strength. Perhaps the final part drags a bit, I think it could have been trimmed, but the end result is excellent. Very good story of this genre that can be enjoyed on a rainy night and alone, to get into the same atmosphere of the film.

The two actors are not well known and I always like that, as it gives them more credibility. Brandan Rock does a great job playing the unbalanced Patrick. I don't know this actor from any previous work, he is a regular collaborator of the director in his short films. The girl is played by Jordan Cowan, whom I had only seen many years ago in the second part of Wolf Creek. The duel between the two is very good and is the best part of the film.

La propuesta más interesante viene de Australia. El joven cineasta llamado Josiah Allen debuta con su primera película después de haber realizado varios cortometrajes. Se trata de una historia del género de terror, con un juego psicológico que fascina por la forma en que está estructurada. Se desarrolla casi en su totalidad en una única localización con dos personajes principales. En lo que parece ser una especie de aparcamiento para gente que vive en caravanas, hay un hombre muy nervioso llamado Patrick. No sabemos muy bien qué está pasando. Es de noche y hay una fuerte tormenta. De repente llaman a la puerta de su caravana y es una chica que necesita ayuda. ¿Quién es? ¿De dónde viene? ¿Quién es quién en esta historia? Esta última pregunta es la más intrigante y se responderá más adelante en la película. El cineasta tiene buen pulso para manejar la tensión y hay un par de giros argumentales que añaden fuerza. Quizás la parte final se alarga un poco, creo que se podría haber recortado, pero el resultado final es excelente. Muy buena historia de este género que se puede disfrutar en una noche lluviosa y a solas, para entrar en la misma atmósfera de la película.

Los dos actores no son muy conocidos y eso siempre me gusta, ya que les da más credibilidad. Brandan Rock hace un gran trabajo interpretando al desequilibrado Patrick. No conozco a este actor de ningún trabajo anterior, es un colaborador habitual del director en sus cortometrajes. La chica está interpretada por Jordan Cowan, a la que sólo había visto hace muchos años en la segunda parte de Wolf Creek. El duelo entre ambos es muy bueno y es donde está lo mejor de la película.

Now we jump to Belgium. Two things attracted me to the film. The first is that it is directed by Girodano Gederline, a filmmaker who co-wrote the Ladj Ly-directed Les Miserables, which I reviewed some time ago. Incidentally, I have not yet seen Batiment 5, where he again co-wrote with Ly. The second was the leading role, played by Spanish actor Antonio de la Torre.

Leo lives a monotonous life in Brussels, working as a metro driver and being an ordinary citizen. On one of those working nights, he witnesses the suicide of his son, whom he has not seen for a long time. From that moment on, we enter a crime thriller: why did his son commit suicide, what are the police investigating, what is Leo hiding? The protagonist will begin to search for answers to the reasons for his son's decision and, at the same time, we will discover what really happened and things from the past will come to light. Leo's character may not be who he appears to be and the action will be present in the tough search for justice. The main weight falls on the shoulders of Antonio de la Torre as Leo, but he is complemented by the policewoman Virginie, played by the French actress Marine Vatch. I have seen several films of her, although I remember her from director Francois Ozon's Young and Beautiful, which I also recommend you look up, it is a film from ten years ago.

Ahora saltamos a Bélgica. Dos cosas me atrajeron de la película. La primera es que está dirigida por Girodano Gederline, un cineasta que co-escribió la película Los Miserables dirigida por Ladj Ly, la cual reseñé hace algún tiempo. Por cierto, aún no he visto Batiment 5, donde vuelve a ser coguionista con Ly. El segundo fue el papel protagonista, interpretado por el actor español Antonio de la Torre.

Leo vive una vida monótona en Bruselas, trabajando como conductor de metro y siendo un ciudadano corriente. En una de esas noches de trabajo, presencia el suicidio de su hijo, al que no veía desde hacía mucho tiempo. A partir de ese momento, nos adentramos en un thriller policíaco: ¿por qué se suicidó su hijo, qué investiga la policía, qué esconde Leo? El protagonista empezará a buscar respuestas a los motivos de la decisión de su hijo y, al mismo tiempo, descubriremos qué ocurrió realmente saldrán a la luz cosas del pasado. El personaje de Leo puede no ser quien aparenta ser y la acción estará presente en la dura búsqueda de justicia. El peso principal recae sobre los hombros de Antonio de la Torre como Leo, pero le complementa la policía Virginie, interpretada por la actriz francesa Marine Vatch. He visto varias películas de ella, aunque la recuerdo de la película Joven y Bonita del director Francois Ozon, que también recomiendo que busques, es un film de hace diez años.

We take another trip, but we are still in Europe. It's Spain's turn and the film is called El Correo. It is the one with the most platitudes and its story, which according to the film's credits is based on real events, is nothing new, but it serves as an entertaining product to distract the mind.

Daniel Carparsoro is the director and I have seen many of his previous films. He's a filmmaker who likes to tell entertaining stories and if that's what you're looking for, he doesn't disappoint. Among the films I remember are Combustión, Invasor, Cien años de perdón, Hasta el cielo (this one I reviewed), as well as the series he made from that film. All the Names of God I saw a few months ago but haven't written my review. There is always crime and action which I find quite entertaining. This time it tells the story of Ivan Marquez, a poor young man with a shitty job, but very ambitious, who, as fate would have it, becomes a courier for a criminal organisation dedicated to money laundering. Ivan starts working as a courier, transporting dirty money to be laundered. That same ambition will play against him and he will have to be very clever to get away with it.

The cast is well balanced and includes some of Spain's most famous faces. Arron Piper plays Iván and is accompanied by the all-rounder Luis Tosar, the beautiful María Pedraza and the sensual Laura Sepul, who is seductive to watch on screen, and Luis Zahera always stands out.

Hacemos otro viaje, pero seguimos en Europa. Es el turno de España y la película se llama El Correo. Es la que tiene más lugares comunes y su historia, que según dicen los créditos de la película está basada en hechos reales, no es nada novedosa, pero sirve como producto entretenido para distraer la mente.

Daniel Carparsoro es el director y he visto muchas de sus películas anteriores. Es un cineasta al que le gusta contar historias entretenidas y si eso es lo que buscas, no defrauda. Entre las películas que recuerdo están Combustión, Invasor, Cien años de perdón, Hasta el cielo (esta la reseñé), así como la serie que hizo a partir de esa película. Todos los nombres de Dios la vi hace unos meses pero no he escrito mi opinión. Siempre hay crimen y acción lo cual me parece bastante divertido. Esta vez cuenta la historia de Iván Márquez, un joven pobre con un trabajo de mierda, pero muy ambicioso, que por suerte del destino, se convierte en transportista de una organización criminal dedicada al blanqueo de dinero. Iván comienza a trabajar como mensajero, transportando dinero sucio para ser blanqueado. Esa misma ambición jugará en su contra y tendrá que ser muy listo para salirse con la suya.

El reparto está bien equilibrado e incluye rostros muy famosos de España. Arron Piper interpreta a Iván y le acompañan el todoterreno Luis Tosar, la bella María Pedraza y la sensual Laura Sepul, a la que seduce ver en pantalla y resala siempre Luis Zahera.
