Hello hello internet people, how are you? This time I bring you a dose of nostalgia with an anime that was part of my childhood and that's why I remember it so fondly, in fact I'm going to make a confession haha Yugi Muto was my first anime crush 😍 😄 I loved his personality, but without further ado let's begin 😉.

Yugi Muto is a lonely and reserved boy who, at a certain point, solves a very special puzzle and, in doing so, undergoes a transformation that gives him a more self-confident personality as he releases the soul of an ancient pharaoh named Yami Yugi, or Atem. From then on, the two duel against monsters using card combinations.

In the afternoons after doing my homework, I remember my happy hour would arrive because it was time to watch Yu-Gi-Oh! I watched it as an anime segment on a children's show called Atomic. I remember how exciting it was to watch the card games and the different combinations that offered a universe of possibilities for victory. When the opposing monsters appeared (which could also be very strong depending on the number of stars they had), I was a little scared, but I was also curious to know what kind of play Yugi would make to defeat them.

I loved the relationship between Yugi and his grandfather, I feel like they both understood each other very well, by the way, I loved that first episode where his grandfather gives him the blue-eyes white dragon card and tells him that there are only 4 like that in the whole world, but Kaiba kidnaps him, I seriously HATED Kaiba with all my strength at that moment, not only because he kidnapped Yugi's grandfather, but because he broke the blue-eyes white dragon card 😱 😡.

I loved the fights and Yugi's transformation into the pharaoh, he changed completely, he seemed more sure of himself and his movements and he transmitted that confidence, I felt that it was impossible to beat him, especially when he said that I should trust the heart of the cards, Hmmm!, although sometimes I think he was cheating a little 😄 However, with each season and despite the fact that the franchise deliberately grew (movies, video games and so on) I lost interest, but watching some episodes now took me back to those years of childhood.

    Greetings @theanimerealm community…

    REVIEW.jpg

This week while I was doing my work I started to watch one of my favorite anime, as I already knew the plot, it didn't matter if I missed something, it was to make the work more comfortable, although it didn't work much, I was distracted sometimes. I really love this anime, I am very fond of it, I love to have the cards, I only remember having very few and I don't know where they are, but I am very fond of them, so it's a good time to remember this story.

    As for the plot…

The story centers on Yugi Muto, a shy, kind-hearted young man who loves games, in particular, the popular card game called Monster Duel, where he engages in a battle with different mysterious creatures, traps and magic cards. Yugi's grandfather is the owner of a game store and a legendary duelist; unfortunately his soul is captured by the creator of the game Maximillion Pegasus, so that Yugi can participate in the tournament he is organizing, since the little boy has an artifact from Egypt: the Millennium Puzzle, something that the Pegasus wanted, since it belonged to what is known as the Millennium Items.

Yugi, together with his friends Tea (Anzu in Japanese), Joey (Katsuya) and Tristan (Hiroto) leave for the tournament, where he will discover that the puzzle guards the soul of someone, this spirit will be of great help to Yugi and the key to these mysterious items and that the game is much more than it seems, as they discover that the ancient Egyptian pharaohs played something similar, called The Shadow Games. Many adventures, battles and guarded secrets await the young protagonist and his friends. Who will be the spirit that dwells in the millennium puzzle? Will Yugi be able to emerge victorious in every battle that awaits him, having the power of friendship and faith in the cards on his side?

    Personal opinion

When I saw Yugioh again after many years, I really didn't feel the chapters as short as back then, and I watched it about 3 times in its time the 5 seasons, and with this one it would be like the 4th time. For me this anime, is like those that are kept with much affection because they formed a big part of our childhood, like Pokemon, Inuyasha, Sakura card Captor and others, if you feel the childish and repetitive in certain scenes that, to be then were not perceived in that way, but that you do not mind anyway, because you really enjoy remembering it, it's like going back to the past, even my sister trying to work, looked at every moment to my screen because she remembered everything that transmitted her to see it.

Now that I saw it again, seriously at that time I like to see the anime dubbed in Spanish, but nowadays it is not like that, I prefer to see it subtitled, because detailing the scenes it did lose some sense in what they say, as if they were given much freedom to express things, I do not know if I explain myself. As for the animation, it is not the best, but I consider it to be iconic and nostalgic, even more so with its outstanding character design and according to the personalities of each one; the music is still liked, no complaints about it, it was very much in line with the story.

    Opera Instantánea_2025-06-10_075033_www.imdb.com.png Source

    Positive points…

-I think its strong point is nostalgia, it's not like the best anime ever built, but it's the anime that is part of many people's childhood.
-It remains a captivating plot, like its monster card theme and its relationship to Egypt.
    -Memorable characters.
    -Epic duels.

    Opera Instantánea_2025-06-10_075144_www.imdb.com.png Source

    Negative points…

    -Some rules were inconsistent.
-Slow pace, in some of the seasons.
-The dubbing, not so much for the intonation, because each voice sounds like the character as such, but mostly in the dialogues.

    Opera Instantánea_2025-06-10_075211_www.imdb.com.png Source

    Score I give it…

    9.5/10 Story │ 10/10 Animation │ 10/10 Sound │ 10/10 Character design │ 10/10 Overall.

I can't give it a lower score, I'm very fond of it and even for me, it's still appealing, plus I really like ancient Egyptian themes, I'm guilty. Even so, perhaps more adult people who have never seen it may not find it as captivating, but it's still a gem among anime.

    REVIEW (1).jpg

    Opera Instantánea_2025-06-10_075033_www.imdb.com.png Fuente

    Puntos positivos…

    -Personajes memorables.
    -Duelos épicos.

    Opera Instantánea_2025-06-10_075144_www.imdb.com.png Fuente

    Puntos negativos…

    -Algunas reglas eran inconsistentes.

    Opera Instantánea_2025-06-10_075211_www.imdb.com.png Fuente

The first thing that really caught my attention is the animation, which improved considerably compared to the end of the series. Which shouldn't be a surprise, since there is more than a decade of difference between the series and the movie.

One thing I loved was Seto Kaiba, who was more Seto Kaiba than ever. Seeing him super determined and determined to get back at Atem and challenge him to a duel was incredible. Seeing him deploy all his intellect, technology and heritage just to get a rematch with his eternal rival is wonderful. Without a doubt, he was my favorite character in the movie.

On the other hand, I liked to see Yugi's evolution. Going from being the shy and quiet boy he was in the series to now having character and courage. To the point that at one point he confronts Kaiba with attitude and bravery. It seems that having spent so many years with the pharaoh made his personality pay off a bit.

    5.png

What I didn't like so much was the villain. Diva as an antagonist isn't a disaster, but I felt him somewhat lazy and repetitive. Basically, he's another one out for revenge for something Atem did or caused. In the end, he doesn't feel much different than Marik was at the time.

The ending left me with a bittersweet taste. On the one hand, it is epic and leaves you very emotional. To the point of making your skin crawl. But on the other hand, if you think about it a bit, it doesn't make much sense what happened. On the internet the “Yugi crazy traps” meme is very famous and here it feels like it applies. In short, it saves the day without following some rule or logic within the series. It also doesn't explain afterwards what happened. They leave it all up to interpretation. This for me takes away a couple of points.

In conclusion, this is a good movie and a worthy closure to the story of Yu-Gi-Oh! Personally, I am satisfied even though I feel there were things that could have been better. If I had to rate Yu-Gi-Oh! The Dark Side of Dimensions I would give it a 7.5/10. I think everyone who grew up with Yu-Gi-Oh! should see this movie. They won't be disappointed.

Yu-Gi-Oh! is one of those anime that managed to transcend into mainstream culture. What I mean is that you can show a lot of people outside the anime world an image of Yūgi Mutō or a card from Yu-Gi-Oh! and they'll recognize where they come from. It's kind of similar to what's happening with Death Note. It became so popular that you don't have to consume anime regularly to recognize this series.

As if the colossal success of their series was not enough, they also managed to create and popularize one of the most famous card games in the world. After 25 years, it is still as valid as it was at the beginning.

Personally, I'm more of a fan of the cards than the series itself. I always loved getting and collecting the cards. Plus I also enjoy playing from time to time with a friend with whom we have the same taste.

The problem with the card game is that over time it became overly complex and complicated. In the beginning everything was easy and understandable. So that everyone could play and enjoy. Now it is the opposite. Lots of new types of cards and giant texts and complicated effects. The worst thing is how stupidly fast the game became. What you could do before in 10 turns, now you can do in 1. This makes it impossible and very difficult for anyone who wants to retake the game after several years.

Back to the series. The success of Yu-Gi-Oh! was so abysmal that it had several spin-offs. Of which I could name Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's, and more. Personally, I only made it to the second generation. Then I lost a bit of interest in the series and only my love for the cards remained.

Something that I always found curious and somewhat funny about the series, is how a card game was able to determine life, death or the fate of the world. Sometimes it was hard for me to get into the plot when the soul of a character depended on a game or “duel”.

The bad thing is that unfortunately, it suffered a lot of censorship. Literally, it is full of censorship. From symbols, letters, monster clothes, etc. I don't think it's bad that some things had to be changed, but I feel the vast majority was unnecessary. All so that the series can be sold as +7.

5. Yu-Gi-Oh Zero@steemychicken1937d

Many people perceive Yu-Gi-Oh! as a trading card game or a cartoon promoting it, but it's much more. The original Japanese series, never translated into English due to its uniqueness for a Western audience.

The protagonist was a shy good boy who liked to play board games and was often the victim of school bullying. One of his games is an ancient puzzle. Its case says that whoever manages to solve the puzzle will grant him a wish. His wish was to succeed in acquiring real friends. When he succeeds and solves the puzzle, he comes into contact with another spirit who, whenever the protagonist or one of his friends is in trouble, appears and challenges the abuser to a dark game whose rules he invents at that time, but which are inviolable. If someone attempts to violate them, they simply lose the game. Additionally, if he loses the game even while following the rules, he is punished in a way that is related to his character. The name of the protagonist is of course yugi.

A significant element is his main rival, none other than Bakura, who, when he obtained his own Egyptian heirloom, made a corresponding wish: to have friends that he can play with forever. The problem is that the corresponding spirit perceives the wish in a somewhat sadistic way. It essentially invites whomever Bakura wants to befriend to his house to play a game strongly resembling D&D. However, during the game, the souls of Bakura's teammates get trapped, allowing Bakura to play with them forever, but certainly not in the way he intended.

he original anime of the well-known YU-GI-OH series is completely different, a darker kind of anime that would probably have a PG-13 rating. But exactly that is what makes it even better to watch now because it's more for adults yet still retains the aura of the anime that a lot of people grew up with.

Of course I'm talking about neither more nor less than Yu-Gi-Oh, as it has many versions, I will only review the original for now, without further delay prepare your best decks because it is time for the duel.

Yu-Gi-Oh It is based on the manga of the same name created by Kazuki Takahashi, its first adaptation also known as season 0 was animated by Toei Animation, released in 1998 and had only 27 chapters, after this another adaptation was made but this time by Studio Gallop, released in 2000 with 5 seasons and a total of 224 (That's right friends, it has been released for 20 years). The anime focuses on the life of Yugi Muto, an ordinary high school student, one day he receives from his grandfather an Egyptian puzzle that he had found on one of his archeology expeditions called 'Millennium Puzzle ”. His life changes when he manages to arm it because a presence tends to temporarily take over his body and it turns out that he is also a splendid player of any game, this ability is repeatedly demonstrated in the monster duel. Yugi and his friends must go on an adventure to learn more about this mysterious spirit, but this adventure will be fraught with difficulties.

    ***Yugi Muto***
He is the little young man who put together the puzzle of the millennium, he is quite shy and on more than one occasion he usually doubts his abilities, so he usually relies on Yami on more than one occasion to be able to get out of dangerous situations.

    separador.png
    Yami

It is the spirit that resides in the puzzle of the millennium and that on many occasions shares the body of Yugi, it is an ancient Egyptian pharaoh, unlike Yugi he fully trusts in his abilities and in himself, he has an incredible ability to play monsters and for any game itself.

    separador.png
    Joseph "Joey" Wheeler

He is Yugi's best friend, he is quite rowdy but despite that he is extremely kind to people, he does not have the ability to duel monsters like Yugi or Yami but that does not mean that he is also good.

    separador.png
    Kaiba Seto

At first he was introduced as a villain but little by little he becomes an ally of Yugi and his friends. He is arrogant, ruthless and extremely skilled in the game of monsters considering himself the best player in the world, he is the president of a major company in Japan so he has a lot of resources to improve his deck however he wants.

Apart from the aforementioned there are other characters but honestly it feels more filling than anything else so I will simply give them a quick mention: Téa Gardner, Yugi's childhood friend, Solomon Muto Yugi's grandfather, Tristan Taylor another friend of Yugi but he very rarely participates in a duel, Mokuba Kaiba Kaiba's younger brother, Bakura another friend of Yugi who also has a Millennium item with an evil spirit and Mai Valentine another quite talented dualist.

Animation is what you can expect from an anime that has more than 20 years doing what it can to be as decent as possible, something similar happens to music being that it is in that middle point of being neither good nor bad.

The construction of the world revolves around the duel of monsters being that this little by little is becoming more known among people, being a development that feels quite natural since it is something that is becoming popular little by little. Something similar happens with the articles of the millennium and the background of the pharaoh Yami, both elements are present from the first season but they are given evolution throughout the different chapters releasing information dropwise by the time they are touched. depth.

With the plot I will simply say 5 words "Generic villain of the week" The biggest problem with this anime is that it has very empty villains who are bad just because and they want to conquer or destroy the world because they please, their motivations are extremely ridiculous because of the that they cannot be taken seriously. The duels are the main focus of the series and these are quite entertaining but there is an element that totally ruins them and it is of course Yugi, although he has very epic and strategy-ridden duels he also has many others that he wins in some stupid way. what easily the duels of Joey or any other character become much more interesting than those of the protagonist.

    separador.png

The only characters that are well cared for are Joey, Kaiba and Yugi, the rest feel like leftovers. The best achieved character is Joey since he is the one who really learns from his mistakes and improves as a person and duelist, Kaiba and Yugi also have some growth but the first one only stops being a villain and the second one becomes more self-confident but it's not nearly as nice as Joey's growth. Something that I think is a bit shocking is that Yugi often wins battles in absurd ways, since this factor of learning from defeats is not present in his character, being something that would have given depth to the character. Finally in this section I will mention the waste of character since some of these are simply only the animators of the others, having very little prominence and being totally irrelevant.

To be honest, I remembered Yu-Gi-Oh much better and I suppose it was because of the nostalgia factor, although it is not bad, it easily becomes repetitive since it is simply a villain that appears, is very bad and others, they beat him and the problem is over. The anime is not entirely horrible but time makes us forget the bad and remember only the good, this was what happened to me when I saw it again after many years, for that reason it deserves a rating of 3 stars out of 7 Despite being an icon of my childhood I must admit that it is not the best anime in the world, it is decent but up to there.

  7. Yu-Gi-Oh! The Sacred Cards (2004) review: amazing… but it could be better.@richardalexis1799d

    Captura de pantalla 2021-08-04 09.04.21.png

The screenshots in this post were taken by me directly from the game Separador.png

Lately I have been playing quite a few Gameboy Advance titles and although I have always enjoyed the catalog of this brilliant Nintendo portable console I must admit that in general terms I have been quite surprised to see how they have withstood the passage of time, either because the genres of which are part are solid and timeless or simply knew how to be well executed at the time.

    Captura de pantalla 2021-08-04 09.05.09.png

When I think of adventure games with RPG overtones, one of the titles that always comes to mind (Apart from Pokémon, of course) is Yu-Gi-Oh and more specifically: The Sacred Cards.

Released in Japan in 2002 and the rest of the world a year later, Yu-Gi-Oh! The Sacred Cards was developed and published by Konami and is without a doubt one of the most interesting and fun games in this franchise to revisit.

    Captura de pantalla 2021-08-04 09.19.17.png

Being one of the few Yu-Gi-Oh games that at that time had a great emphasis on history (Following a whole arc from the original anime and manga: the Battle City Arc), The Sacred Cards considerably simplifies the rules of the game of letters to adapt to this new format where we can freely navigate through a modest size map fighting and fulfilling the objectives that are presented to us.

Personally, these simplifications do not bother me, the soul of the series is replicated on an aesthetic and substantial level and is effective for newbies like me - although it is understood that it can be extremely simple for more experienced players -.

    Captura de pantalla 2021-08-04 09.22.39.png

The Sacred Cards takes advantage of this to make the most of secondary mechanics like selling and buying cards or spending time building suitable decks.

It helps a lot that from the graphic point of view it is a very beautiful game, which mixes pixelated art with the occasional pre-rendered scenario ... the same happens with the cards that more or less replicate what is seen in their real counterparts (Although their effects are trivial to serve to gameplay).

    Captura de pantalla 2021-08-04 09.22.12.png

It is not difficult to immerse yourself in the story and our character (who is not pre-existing but unique to the game) fulfills his role.

However, not everything could be perfect ... the biggest sin of Yu-Gi-Oh The Sacred Cards is not in its gameplay, it is not in its gameplay or the general rhythm of the game, but rather that it is extremely short.

This short duration discourages our games, what is the point of spending time to have the perfect deck if there is not a challenge long enough that requires it? After a couple of hours complete the last duel for us and to finish ruining the party there is not even some kind of post-Game.

    Captura de pantalla 2021-08-04 09.12.09.png

After becoming thoroughly familiar with its mechanics and beginning to enjoy existing in this universe, The Sacred Cards ends abruptly and there has never been a continuation that took true advantage of our advances.

Don't get me wrong, it's a wonderful game and the good outweighs the bad by a lot, I absolutely recommend it ... it's a pleasant experience and long enough to liven up a long trip or a couple of hours of waiting in line, more is missing. a lot to be a truly dense experience - as it should -.

    Captura de pantalla 2021-08-04 09.19.22.png

The Sacred Cards is a great game but it's also painfully short, a shame so many good mechanics go to waste in such a short amount of time.

    Separador.png

  8. Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links@franz541850d

    image.png Source

Welcome to my Blog lovers of video games games and especially the #hivegaming community and general readers of the platform. Today I bring you this publication, for lovers of games and especially those of the collectible card genre. THE Game I present to you today is, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links, which was released on November 17, 2016, only for Japan, Then launching for the rest of the world on January 11, 2017. It was created by Konami for Microsoft Windows, iOS and Android. A game that is quite entertaining and even more so since it is dedicated to one of the most famous and most watched series or anime, so much so that they have had many versions, both on TV and in video games. The truth is that it had a great success and there are still many players who still play, including me, being one of the best things that is available for both PC and Android as I mentioned above, something that I find good because we can play at any time or review it at least.

    image.png Source

Los modos de juegos que tenemos disponibles son mainly because of the Duel World and Online Showdown. In the Dueling World, the player can select one of the characters available in the game and in turn challenge a Duelist with a standard level, to obtain new cards to build the deck and thus increase the level. This level can be increased by completing quests and obtaining daily rewards. In Online Showdown mode, as its name suggests, we can face other people from all over the world. In addition, we have practice duels and the option to watch replays, the latter is important to analyze the duels and make strategies for the next duels, looking at the mistakes made if it is the case. As we face duelists and complete missions, new characters or higher level duelists are unlocked.

image.png Window where we can see the different modes (screen capture made by myself)

image.png Location of the quests and challenges to the legendary duelists (Screenshot taken by me)

The game also has a card stadium, where we have the opportunity to build our deck of cards. Here we find the deck lists that we have, deck editor, the card catalog and an area where we can observe and read the abilities of these cards. Another interesting thing about the game is that it has a store, where we can buy Deck and find various promotions and options, in order that we can follow our deck and thus be able to increase the level of our character. Here we can buy both with real money and with the diamonds that we get as rewards for completing the missions.

image.png Card Stadium (Screenshot taken by me)

image.png Shopping store (Screenshot taken by me)

    Characters (Legendary Duelists)

In the game we have all the characters from the anime, including Yami Yugi, Seto Kaiba, Joey Wheeler, Mai Valentine, Téa Gardner, Yugi Muto, Yami Marik, Yami Bakura, Odion, Maximillion Pegasus, among others. The character used at the beginning of the game are Yami Yugi and Seto Kaiba. In order to have a portal battle with Yami you need black keys, while to fight against Kaiba you need white keys. Also, in the game we have present other characters from a different interface, Yu-Gi-Oh GX, which is part of the same game, but has different locations and totally new missions to play. The good thing about this last added update is that we have the opportunity to live new adventures different from the original game.

    image.png Source

One of the reasons why this game is considered one of the best by many of the world's players is because of the global events that take place from time to time, since these players have the opportunity to acquire new cards to improve their decks and increase the level of their deck, that is to say, there is a better experience when competing in the game.

Its graphics is pretty good, the truth is one of the best as far as Yu-Gi-Oh! games are concerned, at least of those I've tried. The illustrations of the characters can be seen in 3D, something I like a lot. The animations are decent but nothing that surprises, however as I said, the graphics are good compared to other games of this anime. As for the visual effects, they are quite simple but I like them. The fluidity of the game is good and I have noticed very few errors in it. I also liked the sound, especially the sound effects and the voices in the dialogues. Among the sound effects we hear very good sounds during the fights, both of the cards when attacking and the sounds that our characters make when receiving damage as the cards when attacking. The soundtrack, although it has good and quality themes, I think it lacks some variety both for the menu and for the game modes themselves. A game that although technically it is not one of the best due to how simple it is, if we compare it to games of this genre and especially to other Yu-Gi-Oh! games, this one is pretty good.

In conclusion, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links is a great game, where we can live new experiences if we are interested in the card collection genre games, plus if we were fans of the anime Yu-Gi-Oh, both the original and the GX, then you will enjoy this game. Another of the advantages for which I recommend this game is because it is very interesting when it comes to know and link all the skills of our cards that we select for our deck. Also another good thing is that in online mode, we can interact and challenge other participants from anywhere in the world, plus we have another good variety of game modes that will give us a better experience and therefore more entertainment. Anyway, the game is very entertaining and the best thing is free, so I recommend it, and I hope you enjoy it and share your experience.

  9. Yu-Gi-Oh! - Anime Movie Review@isyeda1916d

I believe 100% that Yu-Gi-Oh was created to bank off of the success of Pokemon; I mean they are both similar in countless ways, but what Yu-Gi-Oh has managed to do in my eyes is equal, or even beat the overrated Pokemon cartoon series, even though Yu-Gi-Oh isn't nearly as popular. The two series share similar aspects; the main element the two share is that they both involve battling and collecting monsters, there are a couple more subtle aspects that these two shows have in common but this is the thing you'll notice right away. I first caught an episode of Yu-Gi-Oh while flipping through the T.V. stations at home; at first glimpse Yu-Gi-Oh appeared to be another cheap rip-off like Digimon, but upon further viewing I noticed how deep the show is, and so I made a point of watching it the next day, then the next day, and the day after until I was hooked.

    The Story

The series tells the tale of a teenager named Yugi, after discovering a hot new card game called Duel Monsters he becomes infatuated with this, his friends Joey, Tristan and Téa also share this love with the game. Duel Monsters involves 2 people battling head to head using the game cards which represent ferocious beasts, it's kind of like a real life brand of cards that we all know and loathe (Pokemon). Of course Duel Monsters isn't all it may seem to be; legend has it that it's similar to a game that the Egyptian Pharaohs used to play; this ancient game had to do with holy ceremonies that were used to tell one's destiny; this game was called the Shadow Game. There is however a big difference between the Shadow Game and Duel Monsters, and this is the fact that in the Shadow Game the monsters were real. Well one thing led to another and the game had to be sealed away, so a lone Pharaoh stepped in and used 7 totems to stop this game from hurting anyone else.

Now in modern times a powerful man named Maximillion Pegasus has created the Duel Monsters card game, and this game has become a pretty hot commodity. Yugi and his friends are totally obsessed with it. Yugi's grandfather gives him an ancient Egyptian puzzle to solve, this puzzle has never been solved by anyone and so it comes as a surprise when Yugi actually solves the puzzle himself; he is then granted a more serious and experienced alter ego known as Yami Yugi. Yami Yugi is even more talented then Yugi is at Duel Monsters, and he resides inside of Yugi and can be released with the puzzle piece Yugi solved, which is now known as the Millenium Puzzle. Yugi's rival; Seto Kaiba develops a machine that brings the cards to life, and so now the battles are no longer about your imagination, but now they involve real monsters! Yugi's grandfather is then kidnapped by the evil creator of Duel Monsters Pegasus after Yugi loses against Pegasus in battle. To rescue his grandfather Yugi and his friends must now travel to a remote island to compete in a Duel Monsters tournament and ultimately defeat Pegasus at his own game to rescue his grandfather.

    The Main Characters

    Yugi

https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/yugioh/images/7/73/Yugi_muto.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/950?cb=20170309011846 Yugi is the main character of the show and one of the greatest duelists of his time. Not many of the people he goes to school with know of his skill in Duel Monsters; he's kind of the quiet kid that keeps to himself. After Yugi is granted with his alter ego he becomes more serious when it comes to Duel Cards and is almost unstoppable in the game once he gets going. Yugi's grandfather grants Yugi with the ultimate card; Exodia but because of an accident near the beginning of the series Yugi loses this card and must then use only strategy. Yugi is very supportive of his friends, and he is a pretty optimistic little fellow with some of the wackiest looking hair this world has ever seen. Yugi has become well known in the world of Duel Monsters because he is the only person that has ever managed to beat Seto Kaiba. Yugi's favorite card in his deck is the Dark Magician.

    Téa Gardner

https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/yugioh/images/0/08/T%C3%A9a_Gardner.png/revision/latest?cb=20140520004117 Téa has known Yugi ever since they were kids, and they have been friends the whole time. Téa is the most optimistic of her friends, and she always tries to give them confidence. She's your typical "don't give up, you can do this" type of person, this makes her and Yugi similar but it also makes her unlike their two other friends; Joey and Tristan. Her friends mean the world to her, and there is no greater cause then to help them out. Her best friends are guys, and so she comes off as being a bit of a tomboy, but not too much. Téa's favorite card is the Magician of Faith, it's kind of fitting.

    Tristan Taylor

Tristan has known Yugi for about as long as he has known his best friend Joey. Tristan always comes to Joey's rescue, and despite their arguing and constant fighting it's obvious that they are very close friends. Tristan doesn't like expressing his emotions, and may come off as being a little cold sometimes, but he has only pure intentions. One thing is true about Tristan; he is a very good friend that will do anything he can to aid his friends when they need him. Tristan's favorite card is the Cyber Commander.

    Joey Wheeler

https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/yugioh/images/9/97/Joey_wheeler.png/revision/latest?cb=20150108125221 Joey lived on the streets when he was a kid, so he is the most street smart of the group. Like Yugi, Joey isn't just fighting for himself, but for the welfare of his little sister. Even though Joey isn't a very good Duel Monsters player he has a heart of gold and fully intends on winning he money that he desperately needs to help his sister with. Joey and Tristan are best friends, and even though they bicker throughout most of the journey it's obvious that they would do anything to help each other out in their time of need. Joey comes off as being a little cocky sometimes, and he likes to do things on his own; with Yugi's help he became the first duelist to defeat the talented Mai Valentine. His favorite card is the Flame Swordsman.

    Seto Kaiba

https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/yugioh/images/d/dc/Seto_Kaiba.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/905?cb=20170131011725 Before being beaten by Yugi, Seto Kaiba was the ultimate duelist. Seto Kaiba is the head of the huge company known as KaibaCorp, but he enjoys dueling much more then the company. Seto Kaiba was relieved of his evil side in his fate-changing duel against Yugi, and he has since started gaining respect for Yugi, even though the 2 are definitely rivals. Seto Kaiba's younger brother Mokuba has immense respect for his older brother, and even though he knows deep down that Seto Kaiba is evil he trusts me with all his heart. Seto Kaiba's favorite card is the White Blue Eyed Dragon.

    Let's Du-Du-Du-Duel!

The card game inside Yu-Gi-Oh is very complicated, and you probably won't fully understand it until repeated viewing of the series. It's a little hard to describe but I'll try my best; the card game plays out very much like a turn based RPG. This means that each duelist has a certain number of life points (Life points begin at 2000 for each person) and as their monsters are defeated they lose the life points until they are totally depleted in which case the person with no life points remaining has loses the duel. Another thing that I haven't mentioned in this show is that not all cards are monster cards; some of them enhance the duelist's monsters power or set traps for the enemies.

One thing that I find kind of funny about the battles in this show is the fact that they are usually so close. Every single episode of this series that I've seen so far has a duel in it, and these are usually cut close for whichever of the good guys are fighting, this makes it a little predictable, but at the same time a loss is very unexpected and so when someone does lose it catches you off guard.

One annoying thing about this anime series is that commercials happen at very inopportune times, and it also seems like there are more commercial breaks then in any other show on the WB station. Sure, this does leave you sitting on the edge of your seat sometimes, but most of these occurrences are really quite annoying.

To make dueling interesting in this cartoon anybody competing in the Duel Monsters tournament must wager star chips on every duel that they participate in. Star chips are required to stay on the island where the Duel Monsters tournament is being held, but when someone runs out of star chips they are immediately shipped home, and are disqualified from the tournament. To enter Pegasus' headquarters duelists are required to have in their possession 10 star chips, and then they are eventually able to challenge Pegasus to a battle. If a duelist manages to defeat Pegasus in Duel Monsters then Pegasus will grant them anything they want. Yeah I know this sounds an awful lot like a video game, but that's one of this show's many charms.

    Animation Quality

I like the way that Yu-Gi-Oh! looks; it's got a mix of nice colors and high quality animation that doesn't hurt to look at, unlike Dragonball Z. Really, if I could I would congratulate the people behind the animation of this show.

  19. Yugioh! Duel Links – It's Time to D-D-D-D-Duel!@dlstudios2640d

So, because I'm a scrub and a dirty casual I started playing Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links to remind me of the days when I was young and still into trading card games. Yugioh was always the dumb fun game to play, something that didn't require the thought and dedication that Magic did, which I also played. I'm not saying Yugioh couldn't be played competitively, it certainly has been over the years, but it's a lot better than magic for just pulling together some cards and playing.

I stopped playing around the time Elemental Heroes became a thing, the focus on archetypes didn't really appeal to me, and I was out of the game until I picked up Duel Links these past couple months. And I have been having an absolute blast with it. And it's weird to say that because Yugioh is a terrible game in a lot of ways.

You have your older mechanics for summoning big monsters, those being Polymerization and Tribue summoning. For those who don't know, a Tribute is when you sacrifice a monster to summon up a higher level monster. The problem is Yugioh is a game of advantage and not resources. Most cards don't require costs like Magic, and can just be played out. So typically the one with more cards has the advantage. You play that Blue Eyes for two tributes like in the early days, he gets destroyed by one man-eater bug and you are at a massive disadvantage. You just lost three creatures total, and your opponent only one. Same thing with Polymerization. You lose a spell and two creatures for one guy.

It took the game a while to realize that monsters of that level had to have some kind of powerful effect to justify calling them out, so as time went on the game added more and more ways to summon out monsters, to search necessary cards, and to overall make the game a lot smoother running then it was in the beginning. The problem came with some pretty crazy cards and combos, and it took them a while to really understand what was a proper cost to summon out creatures with powerful abilities.

Duel Links isn't up to where the modern era is. Link Summons, Pendulum Summons, and XYZ summons have yet to be introduced and instead, we are at the Synchro monsters. That and XYZ are probably, on paper at least, the best running Yugioh can get. I won't break down the mechanics, but essentially this is where the issues with Tribute and Fusion summoning were no longer an issue, and were almost entirely replaced by a much better mechanic.

But the problem I have always had is card balance. With Archetypes getting more and more focus, cards designed to work together with such as Toons, Elemental Heroes, or Archfiends, you end up with archetypes that are just plain better, and this is a problem that has carried over into Duel Links.

I loved playing Brother Hood of Fire Cards. They were fast, they could easily call out their traps and spells to the field, and there were a handful of interesting effects. The problem is the deck is absolutely terrible. Honestly, until the recent Six Samurai Deck release, I struggle to find a deck that is both fun to play as an effective in competitive. Once more cards start coming out, and that deck fades into the background, will there be a new deck running around that is going to be that? It's really hard to say.

The good things bout Duel Links is you really can go decently far putting in minimal funds, at least for a while. Eventually, it will start to hit your wallet a bit to play competitive for the long term, but there is plenty of ways to grind up gems from events and the normal gameplay that unless you get really hardcore into it, you can have a lot of fun without spending much money, and even no money if you're patient enough. There is nothing a guy paying can get that the free player can't.

It's not a bad game to try out for free to see if you like it. The matches are fast, there is auto-dueling for AI fights if you don't really want to focus much on that part and just want to grind stuff away, and the aspect of building decks has always been fun for me.

If you ever liked Yugioh or wanted to give it a try, it's worth it. It doesn't play exactly like the IRL game since you have a smaller field, hand, deck, and fewer life points, but it captures the feeling fo the game all the same. I'd avoid it if you're a compulsive buyer, but for anyone else, it's some good fun.
