    Since I can remember that I loved to see love stories between men, in the anime one of the first recommendations I received was to watch Yuri On Ice, but I was too afraid to do it, so I gave it many longs, until a few years ago I wanted to do it and I found out that they were going to release a movie of the series, so I said I would wait for the movie to come out to see the two together, and well, I do not know how many years have passed, but there is less and less hope that the movie will be made, so here I am, wishing with the intensity my soul is capable of that mappa suffers, and suffers a lot, because not only a love story between men and the fujoshis saved your whole animation studio, but they completely forgot about the story, and the current labor overexploitation is a total shit, so, yes, mappa, suffer, you may have an excellent animation, but you became what you swore to destroy, and no, nobody will forgive you for that, specially the fandom of Yuri On Ice.

    Yuri!!! On Ice is going to introduce us to Katsuki Yuri, who has just lost one of the most important world competitions of figure skating, more depressed than I am currently, no, lie, not so much, decides to return to the town where he returned, where he abandons himself almost completely, until he makes one of his private practices is published and becomes viral worldwide, then, Nikiforov Victor, the current champion for 5 years in a row, the idol of Yuri's whole life, shows up at the inn where Yuri lives, to tell him that he will become his coach, causing a worldwide commotion that nobody could believe, turning Yuri's world upside down, who does not believe what is happening, who believes he does not deserve what he is living, but accepts, thus beginning his triumphant return to the world of skating after an almost definitive defeat, where he had already decided to leave skating forever, but will give him one last chance, which hopefully will not be the last.

    Desde que tengo uso de razón con respecto en que amaba ver historias de amor entre hombres, en el anime una de las primeras recomendaciones que recibí fue ver Yuri On Ice, pero me daba mucho miedo hacerlo, así que le di muchas largas, hasta que hace unos años quise hacerlo y me enteré de que iban a sacar una película de la serie, así que dije que iba a esperar a que saliera la película para ver las dos juntas, y bueno, no sé cuántos años han pasado, pero cada vez hay menos esperanzas de que la película se haga, entonces aquí estoy, deseando con la intensidad de la que mi alma es capaz que mappa sufra, y sufra mucho, porque no solo una historia de amor entre hombres y las fujoshis salvaron a todo su estudio de animación, si no que se olvidaron por completo de la historia, y la sobreexplotación laboral actualmente es una mierda total, entonces, sí, mappa, sufre, podrás tener una animación excelente, pero te convertiste en lo que juraste destruir, y no, eso nadie te lo va a perdonar, en especial el fandom de Yuri On Ice.

    Yuri!!! On Ice nos va a presentar a Katsuki Yuri, quien acaba de perder una de las competiciones mundiales más importante del patinaje artístico, más deprimido de lo que estoy yo actualmente, no, mentira, no tanto, decide regresar al pueblo donde regresó, donde se abandona casi por completo, hasta que hace una de sus prácticas privadas se publica y se vuelve viral mundialmente, entonces, Nikiforov Victor, el actual campeón por 5 años seguidos, el ídolo de toda la vida de Yuri, se presenta en la posada donde vive Yuri, para decirle que se convertirá en su entrenador, causando un revuelo mundial que nadie podía creer, poniendo de cabeza el mundo de Yuri, quien no cree lo que está pasando, quien cree no merecer lo que está viviendo, pero acepta, comenzando así su regreso triunfal al mundo del patinaje después de una derrota casi definitiva, donde ya había decidido abandonar el patinaje por siempre, pero le dará una última oportunidad, que esperamos que no sea la última.

    There is something incredible with this anime, I don't know how to say it, because nowadays with almost all anime, even if the chapters last more than half an hour, you get to feel that they last almost nothing, or that the important or relevant information they show is very little, making them feel longer, but at the same time shorter, generating a feeling of great dissatisfaction, but Yuri On Ice has short chapters, barely more than twenty minutes, and even so, they have a level of perfection that makes it impossible for the chapters to feel short, they have a level of perfection that makes it impossible for the chapters to feel short, the chapter ends, you do not realize, and you feel that an hour has passed of how nourishing the chapter has been, how fun, exciting, and totally gay it is, it is something that continues to amaze me, because I came to believe at first that the chapters would be too short and one, the series became very short with only twelve chapters, that was what gave me the most sadness, that it was over.

    There is something that surprised me a lot and that I didn't want to believe, but it was true, a long time ago in a review of a page that I follow, they said that at the beginning of the series there were many fatphobic comments, and I always thought they were making it up because it was the only place where I read something about it, then my surprise was very big when I started watching the series and suddenly fatphobic comments came out of nowhere towards Yuri, because yes, Yuri after losing the competition ate all the weight of his feelings of failure, and he got fat, and it's understood that for him to have a very high performance level he had to lose weight so he could enter again to compete in full conditions, but it's not that they only told him he had to lose weight, they made fun of him and the comparisons were just horrible, but at least they were only made during the first chapters and after that no other comments of that kind were made, because if not, the anime would be completely horrible.

    Hay algo increíble con este anime, no sé cómo decirlo, pues actualmente con casi todos los animes, aunque los capítulos duren más de media hora, se llega a sentir que no duran casi nada, o que la información importante o relevante que muestran es muy poca, haciendo que se sientan más largo, pero a la vez más cortos, generando una sensación de insatisfacción muy grande, pero Yuri On Ice tiene capítulos cortos, apenas de más de veinte minutos, y aún así, tienen un nivel de perfección que hacen imposible que los capítulos se sientan cortos, termina el capítulo, no te das cuenta, y sientes que ha pasado una hora de lo nutritivo que ha sido el capítulo, de lo divertido, emocionante, y totalmente gay que es, es algo que me sigue maravillando, porque llegué a creer en un principio que se me harían demasiado corto los capítulos y uno, se me hizo muy corta la serie con tan solo doce capítulos, eso sí fue lo que mñas trizteza me dio, que se acabara.

    Hay algo que me sorpendió mucho y que no quería creer, pero sí fue cierto, hace mucho tiempo en una reseña de una página que sigo, decían que al principio de la serie se hacían muchos comentarios gordofóbicos, y siempre creí que lo estaban inventando porque fue el único lugar donde leí algo al respecto, entonces mi sorpresa fue muy grande cuando comencé a ver la serie y de repente salían comentarios gordofóbicos de la nada hacia Yuri, porque sí, Yuri después de perder la competencia se comió todo el peso de sus sentimientos de fracaso, y engordó, y se entiende que para que tenga un nivel de rendimiento muy alto tenía que perder peso para que pudiera entrar de nuevo a competir en plenas condiciones, pero no es que solo le dijeran que tenía que perder peso, le hacían burlas y las comparaciones eran simplemente horribles, pero al menos solo se hicieron durante los primeros capítulos y ya después no se hizo ningún otro comentario de ese tipo, porque si no, el anime sería horrible por completo.

    Now yes, to fangirling, I was dying since the first chapter when Victor arrived at the inn where Yuri lived, and in the hot spring bath, completely naked, while we had a close-up of his ass, he told Yuri that he was going to train him, and from that moment began an endless flirtation where Victor was almost lovingly proposing to Yuri at all times, that is, Victor even said that if what Yuri needed was for him to be her boyfriend, he was going to be her boyfriend, for him to improve his skating, Victor would accept in the best possible way and it would be a pleasure to do it, and in those moments I was choking to death, no, how beautiful and horrible it all was at the same time, the provocation was too intense to bear, besides, it is never said and discussed, but it was almost certain that Victor was bisexual, while Yuri had not had any partner ever, then just because of that it is assumed that he was gay, but no, everyone is bisexual until he says otherwise. And I died when another very briefly, in very short seconds, another of the skaters is shown with his partner, another man, living together, and they have a little dog as a pet, that moment was wonderful, I died, I died, I died, I died.

    Una cosa de que hicieron muy bien fue la aversión que tenía Yurio, el Yuri de Rusia, hacia Yuri, pues como ya verán en el trailer, Yurio le dirá a Yuri que debería retirarse definitivamente, que es una desgracia, y todo lo demás, y me cayó mal desde ese momento, a mi Yuri me lo respetas y me lo tratas bien, pero Yuri hizo lo mejor que podía hacer, ganarle a Yurio en una competencia donde estaban luchando por Victor, practicamente, y en condiciones para nada favorables, para ninguno, Yuri ganó, dándole una cachetada con el reverso de un guante blanco a Yurio, dándole una cucharada de su propia medicina, entonces Yurio le bajó intensidad a su odio injustificado, y comenzó a comportarse como una persona estable, aunque se entiende por qué era tan agresivo, tenía 14 años, estaba en constante contacto con la élite del patinaje artístico, y la presión que tenía en sus hombros era gigante, pero igual, necesitaba un baño de fría para que se le bajara el orgullo y se comportara como una persona decente.

    Ahora sí, a fangirlear, yo me estaba muriendo desde el primer capítulo cuando llegó Victor a la posada donde vivía Yuri, y en el baño de agua termales, completamente desnudo, mientras teníamos un primer plano de su trasero, le dijo a Yuri que lo iba a entrenar, y desde ese mismo momento comenzó un interminable flirteo donde Victor casi que se le estaba declarando amorosamente a Yuri en todo momento, o sea, Victor llegó a decir, que si lo que Yuri necesitaba era que él fuera su novio, para que mejorara su patinaje, Victor aceptaría de la mejor forma posible y sería un placer hacerlo, y en esos momentos yo estaba que me moría ahogándome, no, qué hermoso y horrible era todo a la vez, la provocación era demasiado intensa como para soportarla, además, nunca se dice y se discute, pero era casi seguro que Victor fuera bisexual, mientras que Yuri no había tenido ninguna pareja nunca, entonces solo por eso se asume que fuera gay, pero no, todo el mundo es bisexual hasta que diga lo contrario. Y morí cuando otro de forma muy breve, en segundos muy cortos, se muestra a otro de los patinadores con su pareja, otro hombre, viviendo juntos, y tienen una perrita como mascota, ese momento fue maravillosa, morí, morí, morí.

    Oh, I just had an arepa with carne mechada and lots and lots of spicy, I'm happy. Did you know that spicy is not a taste, but a sensation, and our taste buds are actually screaming in pain? Yum. One of my favorite things is the opening song, History Maker, by Dean Fujioka, I mean, it's one of the best songs in the world, totally. Another of my favorite things is that this song reminds me too much of Red, White & Royal Blue, I mean, the relationship between Henry and Alex is perfectly summarized in that song, because yes, they were born to make history, and indeed they did it, oh, I love my gay and bisexual men, I love them.

    I don't know how many times I cried watching Yuri On Ice, truth be told, and I cried because of how beautiful it was, I'm about to watch it again for the third time, and I don't regret anything, Yuri is a beautiful thing that deserves a lot of love and to be cared for forever, and I would say that if Victor ever hurt him, the fandom would kill him, but in reality it's Yuri who is more capable of hurting Victor, so no, I won't say anything. do I madly love this anime? I love this anime madly. Mappa, a nuclear bomb will fall on you if you don't make the movie, so you better give those who saved you what they want.

    Ay, acabo de comerme una arepa con carne mechada y mucho, mucho picante, soy feliz. ¿Sabían que el picante no es un sabor, si no una sensación, y en realidad nuestras papilas gustativas están gritando de dolor? Qué rico. Una de mis cosas favoritas es la canción del opening, History Maker, de Dean Fujioka, o sea, es una de las mejores canciones del mundo, totalmente.     No sé cuántas veces lloré viendo Yuri On Ice, la verdad, y lloraba de lo hermoso que era, estoy por volver a verlo por tercera vez, y no me arrepiendo de nada, Yuri es una cosa hermosa que merece mucho amor y ser cuidado por siempre, y diría que si Victor le llega a hacer daño, el fandom lo mataría, pero en realidad es Yuri quien es más capaz de hacerle daño a Victor, así que no, no diré nada. ¿Amo con locura este anime? Amo con locura este anime. Mappa, una bomba nuclear te caerá encima si no haces la película, así que más te vale darle a quienes te salvaron lo que quieren.

    Advisory: While I’m not going NSFW on this one, there will be discussion of mature subjects.

    Homosexuality is rarely covered in anime, even less so for homosexual male characters. When they are shown they’re often flaming stereotypes, but even in yaoi/shonen-ai works, homosexuality is often heavily implied, but never said outright. When it is, it’s usually treated in the same manner as it is commonly in American/Western Romance.

    M/M, GFY, and Erasure

    Let’s start with a primer, so that the uninitiated and unaware can get some context to catch up, because the issue is rather niche, when you think about it.

    M/M and M/M Romance

    M/M is a fetish tag. It’s important to start with that. It stands for male/male, and the slash has its own implications as well, namely that erotic, though not necessarily graphic and/or sexual, content will be contained therein. Primarily used in fanfiction and erotic fiction, it was a simple tag to use when combing through story offerings to inform the reader if the content was or wasn’t what they were looking for. Romance was a tag as well, implying that the work would focus primarily on the emotional love rather than the physical. M/M Romance sprang up as a genre in Romance fiction, primarily driven by (mostly white) heterosexual women as writers, editors, publishers, reviewers, and readers, and as a result was targeted primarily at that audience to its tastes: 18-29, white or white-passing, slightly androgynous, attractive (obviously), and sexually forward.

    GFY

    GFY means “gay for you”, and that means that one, or both men in the pairing would never consider homosexual contact with any other man that the one that they’re currently with. Usually, they’re set up as having had girlfriends in the past, or currently dating, and otherwise assumed straight. When the possibility of romance does occur, the romantic lead will often make a point of mentioning that they didn’t fall in love with the other person’s gender, but the person themselves. It’s a noble sentiment, but it implies that any other person of the same gender would not be attractive to them. "Gay for you" usually involves a "sexual awakening", where the lead feels an attraction they'd never felt so potently.

    Erasure

    “Gay for you” has been criticized in the romance and bisexual community for its issues of bi-erasure, or filtering homophobia through a romance-friendly lens. This is done not just in romance, but also in other media formats as comics, graphic novels, television, and film. The driver seems to be exposure: the more popular it is, the more likely that a previously bisexual character will gravitate to one end of the Kinsey Scale. (The Kinsey Scale has its own issues, now replaced by the more complex spectrums that include facets for queerness, asexuality, and pansexuality.) This is evident in Torchwood, where fan favorite Jack begins the series as bisexual, but becomes exclusively gay as the series proceeds, or in Legends of Tomorrow, where Sara Lance begins the series as bisexual, but is only shown having sexual or romantic relationships that are same-gender. Implied asexuality and celibacy are methods of erasure as well, used not only to avoid any suggestion of mature or “controversial” material, but also to misinform about asexuality as well.

    And Then There’s Anime

    Anime does not have a good track record for LGBTIQA+ representation. Supporters will quickly admit that it’s a cultural aspect, but an examination of Japanese history will reveal that said cultural aspect was influenced heavily by Western nations. Bisexuality is thoroughly erased, and homosexual relationships are largely limited to comedies when they’re shown at all. This is largely why Yuri on Ice! Drew so much attention.

    Shonen-ai and yaoi (M/M romance) in anime isn’t anything new. There are a few here and there, most notably Gravitation, which put a same-sex relationship between two men at the center of the plot (though Gravitation grows increasingly ridiculous in its plot points as the series progresses), but any sexual contact remains implied. It also clung tightly to a “gay for you” storyline between the two leads, having scenes that had characters implicitly stating that they didn’t fall in love with a man, but with another person.

    Sex is never really implied to have been had in Gravitation, save in a scene where the romantic lead is nearly gang raped for having a more successful album single and little else. Plenty is implied about the romance between the two characters, and the trials and hardships for the two to move forward, but largely, the physical part of the relationship is accomplished through “pan to the closing of the door” shots that imply sex, but there’s no aftermath, and sex is never really discussed between the pair, or talked about with other characters. It’s erasure, first because Gravitation goes out of its way to remove sexuality from the homosexual relationship, making it homoromantic, and safe to sell.

    Why bring up Gravitation? Because it establishes a precedent, a template for how a homosexual relationship is to be written and shown in wide-release anime: if two men are in a relationship, it is sexual even if it is not shown, there is no possibility that either are bisexual, and definitely not on any other part of the spectrum, which I believe that is a template that viewers apply to Yuri on Ice!

    Yuri on Ice!/is Ace?

    Yuri on Ice! would normally be considered a “sports” anime, as it centers around athletic competition, in this case men’s figure skating. While there are comedic elements, it hits many of the sports tropes with the “comeback” character to provide exposition, the aging star who becomes a mentor figure, a brash prodigy who serves as a rival, and an assortment of supporting cast to provide additional conflict. The story follows the normal Hero’s Ascent path, with the protagonist climbing from the bottom to reach the top, and competing against world class athletes where he will be the underdog, but triumph in some way at the end.

    What set it apart was the implied homosexual relationship between Yuri, the protagonist, and his mentor/coach/idol, Victor. Throughout the series the relationship develops, a same-sex kiss is implied to have happened on national TV, and close to the finale a heavily implied marriage/engagement occurs between the two, with the final credits played over Yuri and Victor performing on ice in a pair to a romantic composition.

    The development between the two is played as implying GFY, as with most anime, and as it generally follows the template set by Gravitation and those before it, it could be seen that Yuri on Ice! is of the same variety, though other implications lie in the background, and in the telling. To begin, it can be said that Yuri is actually what Gravitation and its ilk used to imply homosexuality, in that Yuri could be seen as a homoromantic asexual. (A person who forms, and prefers romantic relationships with those of the same gender, but does not or very rarely engages in sexual contact. Also, a few have clocked Yuri as demisexual, which is definitely possible, as well.)

    Katsuki Yuri is a 23-year old Japanese figure skater who first sees Victor skating on national TV as an adolescent, and immediately develops a crush/falls in love with him. He dedicates himself to copying Victor on the ice, gets a dog like Victor’s, and pushes himself to become a top skater so that he could compete against, and possibly surpass Victor on the ice. Upon prodding by Victor, he reveals that he’s never had a girlfriend, and likely is still a virgin. When assigned a routine to “On Love: Eros”, an intensively seductive sequence based around sexual love, Yuri needs a whole episode to figure out what exactly sexual love means, which he chides himself for, as a 23 year old man should understand what sexual love is.

    It’s also suggested in his rejections of Victor, as whenever it grows physical, Yuri “runs away”, or backs off, as the implication is a sexual advance. However, the more romantic gestures of taking each other’s hand, wanting to be the center of the other’s attention, hugging, even the implied kiss, imply not sexual love, but romantic love. His admiration for Victor, as well as his own personal repression, and self-doubt could be attributed to the relationship developing in ways similar to the Gravitation model, but even as the series progresses, one thing must be kept in mind: There is never implied sexual contact, though the romantic contact becomes more common.

    The closeness between the characters, both platonically and romantically, how they learn each other’s behaviors and quirks implies that a romantic relationship will develop, but not a sexual one (despite Victor’s repeated offers of such). The difficulty of separating romantic love and sexual love isn’t an uncommon issue, because all too often romantic love and sexual love walk hand in hand so often they’re assumed to be synonymous. However, there are multiple occasions where Victor offers to be Yuri’s lover, and is shot down or declined, even when it’s apparent that they’re together and committed to each other. That Victor offers so casually to be Yuri’s lover so many times implies that either the attraction is mutual, that Victor has been free with his sexual love in the past, or both.

    Yuri is in romantic love with Victor, seeking a deeper commitment that he seals with vows and a golden ring, but even after the “marriage” in Barcelona, no sex takes place. Romantic love with someone of the same gender, but a displayed and spoken want to not engage in sexual contact. This is the definition of homoromantic asexuality.

    Why This Matters

    Katsuki Yuri, despite the above, is largely assumed by the fans to be gay. Why? The story checks all of the boxes for a quick run-through: Yuri is over 20 and has never had a girlfriend, he’s been fixated on another man he’s idolized since childhood, there’s an implied kiss and marriage with another man, and sex is not shown in anime, especially not between two men if not being played for comedy. If a viewer wasn’t paying close attention, or was unaware of the sexual spectrum outside of the Kinsey Scale, it would be an easy, and generally safe assumption that Yuri is homosexual.

    Human sexuality is so complex that we’ve developed spectrums within spectrums within spectrums, and it still doesn’t quite contain everything in the + after LGBTIQA. When anime establishes a formula and template for portraying gay characters by only using story traits that asexuals have in common with gays, it can result in aces being incorrectly labeled as gay, and further supports the false assumption that sexuality is a binary trait: hetero or homosexual, with everything else obfuscated.

    What this does is foster ignorance regarding identity, that a character like Victor who enjoyed portraying himself androgynously in his teens would be seen as gay, not as a young man experimenting with gender identity and gender fluidity, or that Yuri, who has been in love with Victor since adolescence, must be homosexual and therefore sexually interested in Victor, obfuscating the possibility that his feelings toward him are purely romantic, and not sexual at all. By allowing the characters to be read in more diverse ways, it encourages more representation, for viewers to possibly see themselves in the traits. (E.g. When Todd came out as asexual in BoJack Horseman, there was an uptick of searches for local asexual groups and alliances, as many researched if they themselves were on the spectrum.)

    Representation isn’t the only goal, though. By ascribing so many asexual traits to Yuri and marketing the series as a “sexual awakening”, it implies that, much as with “gay for you”, that Yuri was only asexual because he never considered that he had been gay all along, and that luckily, he could be “fixed” by Victor’s love. This furthers the idea held that if you’re sexually mature, you should be seeking sexual contact, and if you aren’t, there is something wrong with you that needs to be “fixed”. By pushing that reading/viewing of Yuri on Ice!, it enforces not only sexual normativity, it also feeds into the insecurities that many asexuals have before coming out: that they aren’t “wired right”, and need to be “fixed”.

    But Yuri, and other asexuals, are wired just fine. They don’t need to be fixed. They can love, either romantically, platonically, or both, and are deserving of the same.

    All played on choreography and ambiguity. Victor as coach is admired as a boy, a sensual and ambiguous mentor figure, with scenes that clearly refer to a homoerotic love.

    The story begins with  Japanese Yuri, the boy after a series of victories loses the important  Grand Prix Final and as he desperately meets Russian Yuri, who  humiliates him further by advising him with his retraction from the  slopes.

    Yuri follows the counsel of the enemy and  returns home, to his family baths in Kyushu, where he drinks his sorrows  in food and long solitary workouts.

    In one of these  imitates Victor, his idol is filmed without his knowledge, the video  becomes viral on the web, until he comes to Victor himself. Who remains enthusiastic about it!

    And what does Victor do? He goes to Japan and decides to accommodate Yuri completely undressed in the spa of the boy's family.

    The Russian coach decides to take the Japanese boy's case and to train him personally. To this news, the Russian Yuri gets angry and moves to Japan as well, deciding to have Victor as his personal coach.

    So between the two Yuri starts a tight competition to win the Grand  Prix and the attentions of the fascinating Victor who creates a very  close and ambiguous relationship with the Japanese Yuri.

    The  anime has made it very difficult for him to play on the ambiguity of  the relationships between the characters, underlining homoerotic  relationships without ever reaching scenes where such relationships were  explicit. Creating this sexy mentor character who trains the protagonist, who proves to him a mix of admiration and attraction.

    So  never crossing the sport genre for that yaoi (Anime themed love  homosexual sex with explicit sex scenes) or shounen to (Anime always on  the subject of homosexual love but without scenes of sex, only love and  maximum kisses). The anime has left some disappointments for this choice not to make  explicit the links between the protagonists and others, instead happy  with a sporty, lightweight soul and with the protagonists a sensual  pinch.

    Between us, I am worshiping this anime, both for the truly beautiful  choreography to see, a joy for the eyes, both for the subtle thread of  ambiguity present in history.

                                             YURI ON ICE.


    In  questi giorni ho deciso di iniziare un nuovo anime.

    Yuri on Ice è un anime di 12 episodi, diretto da Sayo Yamamoto, genere sportivo. 

    La trama si dispiega con animazioni e coreografie da urlo, magnifiche esibizioni dei personaggi eseguite sotto vari sottofondi musicali.

    Il tutto interpretato da aitanti protagonisti, primo dei quali il giapponese Yuri Katsuki, in competizione serrata con il suo omonimo biondissimo nemico russo, Yuri plisetky. 

    I due oltre ad essere in competizione sulla pista di ghiaccio  lo sono anche per avere il migliore coach disponibile, Victor Nikiforov .

    Pattinatore eccellente e bellissimo ragazzo russo. 

    Il tutto giocato a suon di coreografie e ambiguità. Victor oltre che coach è ammirato come ragazzo, una figura di mentore sensuale e ambiguo, con scene che rimandano chiaramente a un amore omoerotico. 

    La storia inizia con il giapponese Yuri, il ragazzo dopo una serie di vittorie perde l' importante Grand Prix Final e mentre si dispera incontra il russo Yuri, che lo umilia ulteriormente consigliandogli con foga il ritiro dalle piste. 

    Yuri segue il consiglio del nemico e se ne torna a casa, alle sue terme di famiglia nel Kyushu, dove affoga i suoi dispiaceri nel cibo e in lunghi allenamenti solitari. 

    In uno di questi imita Victor, il suo idolo e viene filmato a sua insaputa, il video diventa dunque virale sul web, fino a giungere a Victor stesso. Il quale ne resta entusiasta!

    E Victor cosa fa? Va in Giappone e decide di accogliere Yuri completamente svestito nelle terme della famiglia del ragazzo. 

    Il coach russo decide di prendersi a cuore il caso del ragazzo giapponese e di allenarlo personalmente. A questa notizia lo Yuri russo si ingelosisce e si trasferisce pure lui in Giappone, deciso ad avere Victor come suo coach personale.

    Così inizia tra i due Yuri una stretta competizione per vincere i Grand Prix e per le attenzioni dell' affascinante Victor che instaura con lo Yuri giapponese un rapporto molto stretto e ambiguo.

    L' anime ha fatto scalpore appunto per questo suo giocare sull' ambiguità dei rapporti tra  i personaggi, sottintendendo relazioni omoerotiche senza mai raggiungere scene dove tali relazioni fossero esplicite. Creando questo personaggio di mentore sexy che allena il protagonista, il quale prova per lui un miscuglio di ammirazione e attrazione. 

    Quindi non travalicando  mai il genere sportivo per quello yaoi( Anime a tema amore omosessuale con scene esplicite di sesso) o shounen ai ( Anime sempre a tema amore omosessuale ma senza scene di sesso, solo amore e al massimo baci). L' anime ha lasciato alcuni delusi per questa scelta di non rendere espliciti i legami tra i protagonisti e altri invece contenti di un animo sportivo, leggero e con dei protagonisti un pizzico sensuali.

    Detto fra noi , io sto adorando questo anime, sia per le coreografie veramente belle da vedere, una gioia per gli occhi, sia per il sottile filo di ambiguità presente nella storia.

    Come non restare soggiogati dal sensuale Victor?

    Molto bella anche la opening, cantata da Dean Fujioka, in grado di creare un motivetto che ti resta in tenta e ti strappa un sorriso.
