Zatoichi is a 2003 Japanese jidaigeki action film, directed, written, co-edited by and starring Takeshi Kitano in his eleventh directorial venture. Kitano plays the role of the blind swordsman, with Tadanobu Asano, Michiyo Okusu, Yui Natsukawa, Guadalcanal Taka, Daigoro Tachibana, Yuko Daike, Ittoku Kishibe, Saburo Ishikura, and Akira Emoto in supporting roles.

I love Japanese samurai action movies, and I especially love Takeshi Kitano's Zatoichi, which in addition to great fight scenes brilliantly intertwines sparkling humor and touching drama. When I stumbled across The Blind Swordswman: Zatoichi , I was unfamiliar with the character or history. Luckily, I came across an incredible review of this film which filled me in on the history of this cultural icon. Zatoichi (Takeshi Kitano) stands out in a crowd.
