Cirilo never had a chance.

Today I'm not here to recommend a movie. I'm here to warn you to stay away from this senseless mess. Before watching it, I had a feeling it wouldn't live up to my expectations, but I gave it a chance because the two leads are actors I've seen in other productions. However, my cinephile sixth sense was giving me warning signs.
I wasn't bored; at least many parts of the film made me laugh, and when it reached the second half, I was shocked by each new inconsistency. Who on earth wrote the script? It seems like it needed polishing. It gives the impression that they filmed the first draft of the script or that they invented some plot twists on the fly.
The film is directed by someone named Teresa Simone. This is the first film of hers I've seen, and although I'm a big fan of the best, I don't want to see anything else by this director. I don't know how much this film cost, but I'm sure a good chunk of the money went to hiring Óscar Casas, the Spanish actor and brother of Mario Casas. This guy only accepted the project for the money; there's no other explanation. Here, he delivers the worst performance of his career.
If I'm going to see an erotic thriller, I want well-filmed eroticism, and here there are only a few overly prudish scenes. Erotic thrillers from the nineties were bolder. Here, you can barely see María Joaquina's nipple.
To clarify, the main female character is named Lucero and is played by Ludwika Paleta, but I would call her María Joaquina. This is something only Latin Americans will understand, but I'll explain it to English speakers: this actress, when she was a child, worked on a very successful children's series in Mexico and other Spanish-speaking countries where it aired. The series was called Carrusel, and her character was the beloved María Joaquina. She was a blonde, upper-class, pretentious, and pedantic Mexican girl, and there was a dark-haired boy named Cirilo who was in love with her. Of course, she never paid him any attention. Poor Cirilo.
In the film, María Joaquina plays Lucero, a successful lawyer married to a man who looks like a wealthy Jewish man. They have two teenage children. One is a dim-witted boy, just like his father, who is surely addicted to masturbation and, therefore, disturbed. The teenage daughter makes you want to stop watching the film every time she speaks—the typical spoiled brat who needs a good spanking. I detest these teenage characters.
Lucero must be around 50, but she's still attractive, and her marriage is at that stage where they only make love once a year. There seems to be no passion, no desire. But instead of being attracted to a mature man like herself, she goes crazy for Oscar Casas, who plays the new swimming instructor. It's impossible they cast her to work with someone like Cirilo! There's no way she'd be interested in a fat old man. Let me tell you something: that would have been more believable. An attractive woman like her surely has many suitors, but of course, she wants them to be very young, muscular, and handsome. It's fine when a woman does that; she's applauded. But when men pursue younger women, feminists come out to criticize them on social media.
It's the typical story of love and forbidden desire, but with flat dialogue, shallow characters, and a succession of actions, some more ridiculous than others, that become downright absurd by the end. This movie is a complete waste of time. I'm not saying the idea couldn't have been developed better, but it even has a certain soap opera melodrama feel, which makes it a bad film. That's my opinion.
The combination of Ludwika Paleta and Oscar Casas could have been explosive, but it falls flat here. Their sex scenes are so bland. Boring. Although I'm sure the movie will be one of the most-watched on Netflix—even with all the garbage on that platform, it sometimes appears among the top-rated.
I don't recommend watching it, but if you want to, you can. I'd rather watch an episode of Carrusel and feel sorry for Cirilo, who never had a chance.
If you did see it, let me know what you thought in the comments.
