So I finished watching this movie, it is called, Knightfall and I am glad that I decide to write about it here, because it has all the chaotic vibe I want in a spy thriller.
So there's this MI5 girl who's a brainy, she's a weapons analyst, she probably has to read the manual of anything before she touches them, Then one day, her own boyfriend, Hugh, a field agent, involves her in a black ops mission and she's caught up in it, Like, imagine your man simply grabbing you for government business because you are the expert, just lie that, there was no warning, no preparation, just straight into the fire, and the mission was Prevent the sale of a bioweapon by some very bad people, Not just any bioweapon either, this one is known as CN9, and it melts from the inside out, I was shock..... I know the writers of this movie wanted to plant fear in us...
And as this is a movie, of course, the mission goes awry, Well, this is the way things go in movies, nothing ever goes their way, and someone always has something they shouldn't have, and In this instance, it's Ros, she finds herself with the key to the weapon and in no time, she's not the analyst anymore, she is the target, everybody wants her, mercenaries, secretive government individuals, possibly even individuals she may not have known about to begin with, there is no place for her to turn to, no safe house, no one she can trust in this city.
Therefore, when her entire world has fallen apart, she does what anyone sensible on the run would do she heads home to her estranged father.
Of course it is not any old guy, it's her father, once upon a time Charles Knight was a legendary spy catcher, and probably the subject of tales from other agents, he's now retired, out of the game, he's minding his own business in a quiet place, but when his daughter appears on his doorstep, shortly followed by an army of mercenaries, and off we go with a peaceful retirement, the entire house becomes a war zone, It's an invasion of your home, shootings all around and a father and daughter who are fighting side by side against someone who is trying to kill them both, It is almost like the past he'd left behind came along with him into his own child.
There is also this Whitehall guy Carmichael, who's making problem in the background, the type of personality he portrays in the first scene he is in, You know that kind of smiley face, the suit is a bit posh, but you know that he is the one that has all the problems, Every spy film requires someone like that, someone that's just sitting in an office, while everyone else is out here, running for their lives.
If I'm being honest here, it sounds like Liam Neeson energy, combined with classic spy movie, plus "why did you have to get your own daughter into this?" family drama, It's nice to see a parent who you didn't know you could trust or who you didn't know had hidden motives, like all those years of silence had a much bigger plan.
For fans of spy thrillers, a little family drama, a countdown to disaster, and enough chaos to keep the watcher on his seat, this is a good watch, It's not about reinventing the genre, it's just being really good at the old spy-thriller movie and sometimes that's what you need.
