I was telling my wife the other day that every castle has a story to tell! There’s always some event—something that happened—that makes me remember a particular castle for that specific reason, haha. I’ve dubbed this one the "seda Castle" (or "The Impossible One")—and that’s exactly what it was. It’s my 89th castle, but when I arrived at the village, there was absolutely no way to get close to the walls. It’s actually a ruin, but getting near it proved impossible, so I could only capture it with a drone!🏰📍

Al castillo de «Seda» lo titulo «El imposible»; así es... Es mi número 89, pero al llegar a la aldea no había forma alguna de acercarme a sus murallas. En realidad es una ruina, pero acercarse fue imposible: ¡solo se pudo con dron!🚙🚩
In 1160, the town of Seda was conquered from the Moors by the first king of Portugal with significant support from the Knights Templar. Later, in the 13th century, it passed to the Order of Aviz—and we will actually be visiting their castle! It is interesting because although only ruins of the walls remain, they were built upon earlier Roman ruins; in other words, there are many centuries of history on that hill🚙🌍

The Castle of Avis is located in the small town of the same name in the Alentejo region, situated on a hilltop at the highest point overlooking the Maranhão Reservoir. No complete castle remains today; what survives are three towers and sections of the walls that have been integrated into the town itself. Construction of the castle dates back to 1211, during the era of the Reconquista under Afonso II; the lands were granted to the Knights Templar and the Order of Évora, who would later go on to found the Order of Avis.🏰🌍
El castillo de Avis se ubica en la pequeña villa que lleva su nombre. Está en el Alentejo, situado en una de las colinas del punto más alto, al lado del embalse de Maranhão. No existe el castillo completo; lo que queda son tres torres y las secciones de murallas que fueron integradas en la villa. The castle originally had six towers; today, three remain. The most famous is the Queen's Tower—though I was actually a bit disappointed, as one of the towers is on private property and the other two are inaccessible. You can literally only view the castle from a distance! I don't like it when a local authority does that with a piece of historical heritage that belongs to us all. It features a defensive Romanesque military style.💂🏻♀️🌏

Por cierto, quedé un poco decepcionado porque una de las torres está en propiedad privada y las otras dos no tienen acceso. ¡Literalmente, el castillo solo se puede observar de lejos! No me gusta cuando una freguesia hace eso con un patrimonio histórico que nos pertenece a todos. Presenta un estilo románico militar defensivo.🏆📍

The castle is located in the town of Alter do Chão—one of the best-preserved spots I’ve visited so far, and quite beautiful. You have to pay to enter; however, I didn't like that they didn't have a card payment terminal. I think hardly anyone carries cash in their wallet these days, so I couldn't go inside the facility. Nevertheless, I had already asked for permission to fly my drone and take a few photos from the entrance.🌏🏰

This is one of the most recent ones I’ve visited. It dates back to the 14th century, though there appear to be records of an earlier Arab settlement predating the Gothic fortress we see today—which was declared a national heritage site in the 20th century. Did you notice that the castle sits at the same level as the city? Usually, when you think of a castle, you picture it at the highest point, right? Well, this is one of the few castles in the country not built on a hill, yet it features a unique defensive system: double walls. DON'T MISS THE VIDEO TO LEARN MORE...🌏📍

For just 20 euros per adult, you can enjoy a boat trip on the Tagus River to see the famous "Portas de Ródão"—a unique, millions-of-years-old geological formation that is one of a kind in the country. You need to buy your ticket in advance because they operate with limited capacity; however, you can reserve your spot by phone. If you have children, there is no problem! The only tough part was the summer sun and heat—I was practically roasting!—but there is a lounge area on the boat's lower deck where you can escape the sun for a while.📍🏰
Por solo 20 euros por adulto puedes disfrutar de un paseo en el río Tejo para ver las famosas «Portas de Ródão», una importante formación geológica con millones de años única en el país. Tienes que comprar la entrada con anticipación porque trabajan con cupos limitados, aunque puedes reservar tu lugar por teléfono. Si tienes niños, ¡no hay problema! Lo único duro fue el sol y el calor de verano... ¡casi me estaba cocinando allí dentro! Jajaja. Por suerte, tienen un salón en la planta baja del bote para escapar un rato del sol.🌏💂🏻♀️

What started one day as a hobby on Hive has now become a very serious undertaking, involving over 10,000 km of travel and more than €1,500 spent on fuel. Lo que un dia comenzo con un hobbie en hive, ahora es objetivo muy serio con mas de 10,000km de recorrido y mas de 1500euros en gasolina, estos numeros son una estimativa, pero la gran mayoria de los castillos 80% estan a mas de 100km de mi casa, y multiplica eso ir y volver 91 veces, otros estan a mas de 400km...and not counting the toll, which can vary between 20 and 50 euros per trip
