I had no idea so many exchanges had shut down! Many of them were probably purchased and consolidated like Counsquare but that number is still amazing.

That might pose a big challenge for Hive when it comes to creating the mainstream phase becoming more of an actual currency surely must come with transferability, and convenient conduits to other currencies and fiat. The community is diverse enough though innovation has a tough time taking off when the value of the token is low.

Legitimization will come with rules that go against the original idea for crypto and those rules will be written by fiat dinosaurs so Ie pet the opportunity will be watered down.

Still fascinating to see and be a part of while we do our thing here!

  • I remember in years past logging into CoinMarketCap.com and there being page upon page of exchanges listed for certain coins. Some of them were super sketchy. There certainly has been a lot of change in the last five years.

Quick onboarding and easy fiat/crypto bridges will be crucial if Hive (and projects like it) ever want to truly be mainstream. Low token value does make building and innovating harder—I guess it’s a classic chicken-and-egg problem. Still, the fact that we’re here watching it all unfold and people are still building is something special and gives us reason to be optimistic.

I’ve stopped thinking of Hive primarily as a currency. I see it more as an attention token — like a digital reward for giving and receiving attention online. This kind of framing, I believe, is how it can differentiate itself, grow, and actually thrive...as an attention-token that works across a wide range of Web3 platforms.
