Good morning, everyone! Today’s post is about two adventures in one that I went on a few days ago. I’m not into extreme sports at all, but I love the outdoors, nature, hugging a tree, swimming at beaches and in rivers, and admiring and enjoying the views from the top of a mountain. So I accepted the invitation to climb Manquehuito Hill, located at the edge of Vitacura, Santiago, Chile.

The most important things were comfortable clothes and proper footwear, followed by staying hydrated—which we left behind because we forgot. We arrived in the area around 11 a.m., got to a certain point on the road, and from there on it was just a walk to the top; about 1 km of it is paved and has some pretty sharp curves.

Then the mountain opens up in all its splendor, where a sign reads: “Via Café,” and you’re greeted by a set of dirt steps—about 5 meters of that easy going—and then it’s just a steep climb up sandy, rocky terrain, with an incredible view no matter which way you look. I really liked that there are signs—not just to show you the way, but also signs with wooden benches that invite you to rest, placed very strategically, since the path that follows is more challenging.

From what I could tell, the site is quite popular with experienced climbers, cyclists, athletes, tourists, and people like me who go “just for fun.” I was really surprised by the number of children and pets—little dogs, lots of dogs—some very eager and others a bit confused, but all well cared for with plenty of food and water.

The last kilometer is the toughest part. There was a moment when I saw the cross at the summit and said, “I’m not going to make it.” My mind was driving me to despair, and my legs were begging for mercy. However, something inside me reminded me that I’d done this once before, and besides, I was there to work through a stressful situation I’d been going through, and that was helping me express myself, so I took a deep breath, refocused my mind, and kept going.

I think these are the activities that test whether I’ve truly internalized everything I’ve practiced on the yoga mat, in art therapy sessions, and through my understanding of working with the lunar cycle. Because if there’s one thing to remember, it’s that the brain is lazy and prone to falling into patterns; it prefers what’s familiar and doesn’t recognize whether it’s doing something right or wrong, but when the body moves, it provides more stimulation.

That’s why it’s important to maintain that active connection between body, mind, and soul, and to be in harmony with nature—because that’s where we come from and that’s who we are. It’s also important because we live such fast-paced lives, caught up in our work routines and focused on our digital screens, which has caused us to neglect our sensory and kinesthetic experiences to a great extent.

Well, my dears, I finally made it to the top. I was so moved. I don’t know if I’d do it again, but given the view, I think I would. It’s a reminder that life is now, and to be grateful for the vastness of the earth, the health of my body, and that my breath is my greatest ally. So, my dears, if you have the chance, get out there and do it—stretch and move that body, because that’s what it’s for. Enjoy the view.
