The ticker is already counting on Metroid Prime Origins being taken down. Most retro gamers, even non-Nintendo fans, know what Metroid is so I will skip rehashing that story. If you are a fan of Metroid, particularly the 2D entries, then you are going to want to grab this fan made Metroid game. The big question is – how long before Nintendo takes this down?
Pulling Notes from Abuse
Let’s get this out of the way up front. If you are not a fan of using several keys on the keyboard AND the mouse for necessary things such as shooting/aiming, then you are going to have a miserable time with Metroid Prime Origins.
Like I did.
I just could not get my head wrapped around the combination and it constantly threw me off, as you can see in the below embedded video.
I am not saying skip Metroid Prime Origins by any means. Just wanting to make sure you are aware of the control scheme prior to downloading.
For those wondering, this is the same control scheme as used in the 2D action game, Abuse, on PC from the mid to late 1990’s. It is not a popular control method for 2D games.
Pixel Art for the Win
The artwork in Metroid Prime Origins is fantastic. The developer makes sure to point out that generative AI was not used in the development of their fan game.
Obviously, as any fan of the Metroid series can tell by the name, this is a 2D fan interpretation of Metroid Prime on the Nintendo GameCube. Some liberties were taken, as expected, to give fans what is likely to be the only 2D take on that storyline.
Head over to Reddit.com for the latest updates on Metroid Prime Origins, including the latest download links (as long as they are available anyhow).
