Review
Octavio is a mixed martial arts fighter who has a bout in the next 60 minutes, but that is also the time he has left to see his daughter; otherwise, he will lose custody of her forever.
Octavio is a young man caught between a rock and a hard place, as his manager has organised a fight on the very day of his daughter’s birthday; the problem is that, minutes before the fight is due to start, he receives a call from his ex-wife threatening to take away his custody if he doesn’t arrive within 60 minutes – hence the film’s title. Octavio decides to call off the fight just minutes before it is due to start, causing chaos as a gang of mobsters begins chasing him across the city to force him back into the ring.
There is a great deal at stake: there is the custody of his daughter, who, whilst her father is facing off against his pursuers, calls him again and again, and you can sense a feeling of frustration and disappointment in the little girl; Octavio doesn’t want to cause her any pain. There is also the loss of his job as a fighter and the financial penalties he will face for failing to turn up for the bout; even his own life is in danger as a result of this decision.

Opinion
The highlight of this film is the series of fights the protagonist has to endure; one after another, without respite, they left me feeling utterly exhausted, but at the same time, the way they were filmed—with wide shots and from various angles—meant I really enjoyed these scenes; the fights are perfectly choreographed and look very realistic.
It’s a thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat, thanks to the unexpected twists and the sheer number of obstacles the protagonist faces.
Another interesting detail that heightens the sense of tension is the countdown clock that appears on screen.
As for the plot, there were things I liked, such as the fact that Octavio had the support of his friends and trainers during his escape and that they all stood up to the mafia; it feels a bit like a more modern take on Italian films, as the film is set in Germany and the mafia members are Russian.
Finally, I found it a bit absurd that a mixed martial arts fighter would allow himself to be manipulated by his ex-wife and even put his own life at risk, but well, let’s just say he had a good reason. Although it’s a fight film, its underlying message is positive, as he prioritises his commitment as a father and makes it clear that his daughter is the most important thing to him.
I thought the special effects, make-up and cinematography were good; the mix of emotions packed into such a short space of time was good too, although it left me exhausted. I’d recommend it if you like action films with fight scenes; the ending was just what I’d expected, so I was left feeling satisfied.
