Friends in this community, it’s been a while since I last said hello and wished you a Happy Caturday. I hope all your kitties are doing well, getting up to their usual mischief and doing cat things.

Random moments on Caturday
Things are going well at home. My little cat is growing up and entering his teenage years. I know this because he’s now sleeping like a normal cat. Before, he never rested – he’d spend day and night hunting and playing with other cats that came round to visit, and I never saw him sleeping. He was so hyperactive that he didn’t sleep at all, to the point where I was getting a bit worried about it.
Now he greets me in the mornings; when I get up, he’s at the bedroom door alongside his canine brother, and they accompany me to the bathroom, then follow me whilst I brush my teeth, always right behind me, until I serve them both their breakfast and they wander off for a while (the two of them, always so nosy) 😅. Afterwards, Hermosú, my cat, goes off to hunt or climb the big tree in the garden, where he takes a nap; he sleeps there most afternoons on his makeshift bed – an orange rag draped over the dining room chairs.
Hermosú needs a better bed
He looks so cute lying on his rag that sometimes I pop in and take photos of him. He curls up with his two paws together as if he were praying 🤣. He likes his hiding spot under the table because he plays with the tablecloth, pulling it or dragging it towards him.
I’m about to get him a box to be his new bed; I’m sure he’ll like it. I hope so, and that he’ll stop bothering his brother, because on several occasions when I get up at night, I get annoyed because the cat kicks the dog out of his bed – I find Duke curled up, shivering in a corner, and Hermosú stretched out lengthwise on the dog’s bed. That annoys me, but it also makes me laugh. 🤨😡😆.
My dog is already a senior, and my cat teases him a lot; I don’t think it’s good for the dog’s health that he’s having his bed taken away, but it’s something I don’t know how to sort out. When I see that happening, I tell them both off – Duke for letting his bed be taken away, and Hermosú for being a bully and using things that aren’t his.
During the day, he takes advantage of the fact that my mum isn’t watching and flops down on the sofa.
Hermosú sleeps so peacefully that I, as his human mum, have worried for no reason. He lets his head hang over the edge of the sofa, heh, heh, heh (he looks like part of the sofa), and I used to worry that his head might atrophy, but I looked it up on Google and it says it’s normal – cats who sleep with their heads hanging over the edge do so because they feel so relaxed and safe in their home. They won’t hurt themselves, and it’s a good sign.
Watching TV
Sometimes when I’m watching a film, my cat never misses a chance to join me and curl up on top of me. He used to do it on my chest, but he’s got too big and heavy now; he doesn’t feel comfortable on my chest himself and prefers to squeeze in between my legs. He likes films just as much as I do – he’s inherited this hobby from his mum. 🤣
Taking the opportunity to play with Duke
Ever since Hermosú came home, he’s seen Duke as a playmate – or rather, he’s seen Duke as the perfect toy, which he uses to tease him and then run off.
My dog is traumatised because the cat teases him so much; he bites his paws, tries to scratch him and never comes near him to show any affection. That’s why the dog keeps his distance or doesn’t want him to touch him.
I’d like them to get on better, to be affectionate with each other and sleep together, just like my previous pets who slept together and loved each other – they were also a dog and a cat – but I realise that they each have their own personality and it seems this pair aren’t going to get on.
Sometimes, when the dog is asleep, tired or distracted by scratching himself, the cat takes the opportunity to put a little paw on Duke’s body. I know he wants to get close without hurting him, but as soon as the dog realises, he moves away, because he’s already wary of the cat. 😔🥲. I try to put them together so they can cuddle, but the dog runs off.
Anyway, Hermosú is still a puppy; perhaps as he matures a bit more, his behaviour will change and the dog will accept him. That’s my latest update – thanks for reading and for your support. 😘
