The Neccessity I Struggled With - #307

When as an adult, you are left to ponder on a question first before giving an answer because of how sensitive it is then we have to take a very detailed look at the question. What should a proper adult do confidently which means there can always be a proper adult and an improper one which is why we have some improper and unsuitable attitudes in the society, from people we could have focused on to behave right. Just like driving when the traffic light shows red, to stop.

But, from my angle of life and personality, the one thing I think a proper adult should know how to do but I'm still struggling with even if I'm trying is setting boundaries without feeling guilty. Oh my oh my....

I don't know why or how I got to this level but in as much as I don't like the feeling of hurting people when it seems like I dont want to give them an access to me or reduce the access they have to me, most especially my time, sometimes I still feel like I need to do better. Especially when it ended up affecting my plans for the day, the things I had to do and I end up choking myself with tasks that should have been sorted smoothly. 1001000628.png

The part that get to me is when this access is taken for granted and there is no value for it because I had presented myself to be too free even when I had a lot of things pending to sort out but I just wanted to be there and not absent when my presence is needed.

In the past months, I am very certain I had not been handling it well when I find myself in that situation but I can vividly say that for the past few days, I've been trying my best to limit the access but might still not be placing the boundaries as it should be. Although, I observed that doing this makes me feel distant especially when it's someone I'm so close with but I guess with time, I will be able to balance my emotions with the necessity.

  • I hope you can work on setting boundaries and that you'll be able to help others—and yourself—understand that you're not being selfish just because you want some space of your own. I enjoyed reading what you wrote. Hugs

That feeling of “suffocation” you describe—when you put your own plans aside to be there for others—is completely understandable, especially when you feel that your availability is taken for granted. We’re often taught that being a responsible adult means sacrificing ourselves for others, but the reality is that we can’t take care of others if we don’t take care of ourselves first. It’s okay to set boundaries; you might feel guilty or a sense of distance at first, but over time you’ll see that healthy boundaries don’t drive the right people away—on the contrary, they improve the quality of your relationships. Best wishes!
