The Odyssey of Getting Home

Today I went out to do some cleaning that I thought would be quick. I left my house at 11 a.m., thinking I’d be back by 4 p.m. at the latest. However, the person I visited apparently doesn’t care about other people’s time; they made me wait quite a while both to see me and to let me leave. It was a totally exhausting day, and to make matters worse, on my way home I ran into a huge line of people waiting to catch the bus.

I thought I’d be home by 5 p.m. at the latest, but I ended up getting home after 9 p.m. because of the irresponsibility of the person I visited and also because I don’t set boundaries with people, not to mention the obvious traffic problem. This reminded me why I stopped looking for work on the street—it’s a daily ordeal just getting to and from home: transportation problems, the crowds of people waiting to get on the buses, the work schedule… Everything was working against me, and it’s always like that—the world is chaos.

I’m extremely tired. I got home really late; my son had a fever, and my husband took care of him as best he could, but I felt so helpless for not being with him. I felt a deep sadness because I’ve never been away from him when he’s not feeling well. My worry grew by the hour, and on top of that, my son kept sending me voice messages telling me to come home, that he missed me—it broke my heart. It makes me so angry when people think your life isn’t important and that they can play with your time however they please—to me, that’s just really rude.</div

I was afraid of being out on the street so late, exposing myself to so many dangers all by myself, while my son was at home missing me… I missed my home, my family, and my cat. I didn’t feel like going back to that place to “work,” much less looking for another office job, since the line I stood in today just to catch a bus home was enough to remind me that I live in a crazy country where you have to wait in long lines for over two hours just to get home.

I'm so sorry you had such an exhausting day. People's lack of empathy for other people's time is so frustrating, but the important thing is that you're back home with your family. I hope your little one recovers quickly
