I'll be transforming a short dress into shorts for a client. She loves to remodel all the clothes she has at home and make clothes for her granddaughters. In this case, she asked me to make these shorts, and today I'm sharing the creative process in an easy and simple way. I hope you enjoy it!

• Prenda o vestido a transformar
• Patrones con sus respectivas medidas del short
• Tijera
• Hilo
• Máquina de coser
• Elástico de 2.5 cm de ancho x 30 cm de largo

• Garment or dress to be transformed
• Patterns with their respective measurements for the shorts
• Scissors
• Thread
• Sewing machine
• 2.5 cm wide x 30 cm long elastic

Paso 01

Step 01

I started by taking apart my dress in the parts where I could do this work, since some pieces did not need to be taken apart as it was very useful to leave them as they were. Then, with the pieces I could take apart, I cut the pieces for my shorts.

Step 02

The next step is to join both crotch seams of the shorts. We will sew the front and back pieces together. I have overlocked this piece and then sewn it with a straight stitch.

Step 03

Next, we'll position our waistband, the same width as the shorts, and sew it around the waist, leaving a small opening unsewn to insert our elastic using a tape tool or another tool that makes it much easier for you to insert your elastic. After inserting the elastic, we sew along the edge, tuck it into place, and sew the waistband of the shorts again.

Step 04

Finally, we will reinforce our waistband with a straight stitch over it to prevent it from moving. Now, to finish, I'm going to sew the hem of the shorts, 2 cm wide, and we sew along the edge. I did it with my zigzag sewing machine.
