Hey, fellow dreamers!
Hope you're all doing well. Here's a new piece I've been working on, I’ve got a new liminal collage to share with you today. For this piece, I wanted to explore a different side of liminal space. Something less creepy than my previous and more playful, but still carrying that strange feeling of being somewhere familiar, yet somehow disconnected from reality.
I also wanted to bring a little early-2000s nostalgia into the visuals. I took inspiration from old computer interfaces, pop-up windows, and the digital aesthetics I grew up seeing, then mixed them with surreal landscapes and oversized faces. I love how something so familiar can feel strangely out of place when you put it in a world that doesn't quite make sense.
One of the main elements in this collage is the warning window that keeps appearing. I took inspiration from the Recycle Bin warning message on my computer, then edited it to ask a different question, “Are you sure you want to permanently stay here?”
I started imagining what it would feel like if a world kept asking you to confirm whether you wanted to stay there forever, but never actually gave you the option to leave.
Every window offers only two answers, Yes and Yes. There is No way back.
I combined these elements with towering buildings, checkerboard roads, and oversized faces scattered throughout the landscape. The result is a strange little world that feels like an absurd dream, almost funny at first, but with an underlying sense of being trapped. I wanted to keep the visuals simple and avoid relying too much on horror elements. To me, the absurdity of the situation was enough to create that unsettling feeling.
Maybe this world isn't trying to scare you, maybe it's just waiting for you to agree to something you never really had a choice about.
I've included all the images I used in creating this artwork below.
Thanks for stopping by and taking a look at my work! I'll see you in my next post.
