Hi, internet folks – how’s it going? Today I fancied getting back into drawing, and what better way than with one of my favourite characters from one of my favourite games, *Don’t Starve* – Wendy. Here’s the reference photo and how the drawing turned out, though I’ll also talk about the process :3
Hola, gente de Internet ¿todo bien? Hoy quise volver al dibujo y que mejor que con uno de mis personajes preferidos de uno de mis juegos preferidos Don't Starve, se trata de Wendy. Esta es la foto de referencia y como quedó el dibujo, aunque igual hablaré del proceso :3
The first thing I did was draw the guide lines before I started sketching. I used an HB pencil for the sketch, first drawing lines that were too light and thin, and then going over them a little more
Lo primero que hice fue las líneas guía antes de empezar a bocetear. Utilicé un lápiz Hb para bocetear, primero haciendo líneas demasiado claras y finas y luego repasando un poco más
I then outlined the drawing with a fine-tip pen in a slightly messy style, as that’s the drawing style of Don’t Starve. What’s more, doing this before colouring ensures that the graphite doesn’t show through the colour. Before outlining, I lightened the drawing a little with an eraser; I outlined it and left it to dry thoroughly, then erased it again to clean up the area before finishing the drawing and moving on to colouring.
Después delineé el dibujo con un bolígrafo micropunta de forma un tanto desarreglada ya que ese es el estilo de dibujo de Don't Starve, además, hacer esto antes del coloreado, asegura que no se vea el grafito bajo el color. Antes de delinear limpié un poco con el borrador, delineé y dejé secar muy bien y volví a borrar para limpiar la zona antes de terminar el dibujo y poder colorear
I then made the scroll with Wendy’s name on it, and in fact I did it in exactly the same way as the rest of the drawing
Después hice el pergamino con el nombre de Wendy y de hecho lo hice del mismo modo que el resto del dibujo
Then I started on the colouring; I began with the hair, colouring it yellow, adding light brown to create the shadows, and blending and softening the colours with white
Luego empecé con el coloreado, empecé con el cabello, coloreandolo de amarillo, colocandole marrón claro para hacer las sombras y matizando y suavizando con el color blanco
I coloured the skirt and the bow in layers – red first, followed by layers of brown and black respectively – adding shading or highlights with white at the end.
La falda y el lazo los coloreé por capas rojo primero y luego capas de marrón y negro respectivamente matizando o dando luz con blanco al final
I coloured the mound of earth with light brown and added shadows with dark brown to give it that 3D effect
El montículo de tierra lo coloreé con el marrón claro, le hice sombras con el marón oscuro para darle ese efecto 3d
Next, I coloured the sign. As it’s a weathered parchment, I simply applied a white base coat, went over it with light brown, softened it with white again, and went over the corners and shaded areas with dark brown. And this was the result:
Después coloree el letrero, ya que es pergamino desgastado, solopuse una base de blanco debajo, pasé el marrón claro encima, suavice con el blanco de nuevo y repasé por las esquinas y las zonas con sombras con el marrón oscuro. Y este fue el resultado:
