Trump-Xi summit: What wasn't said might matter the most

"both governments issued separate accounts of the meeting - perhaps a sign that despite the White House tours and promise of warmer ties, Washington and Beijing remain wary of each other"

--- Nothing new here. China usually has very different accounts of what has been agreed to in talks.

"The Trump administration also said Beijing would buy at least 10 million metric tons of coal annually in 2027 and 2028."

--- Not confirmed by China, though.

"Adding to the confusion, US Ambassador to China David Perdue told Fox News that Trump had offered to sell weapons to Xi during the summit. The State Department later clarified that US law prohibits arms sales to China and there are no plans to do so."

--- I would not be surprised if the moron would actually offer something like that, thinking it would be a good deal.

"for both leaders, this is a familiar outcome - a promise of more channels of communication, modest economic concessions and modest proposals to steady relations"

--- Business as usual, nothing changes.

U.S., China to lower tariffs on $60 billion of goods. Here’s what qualifies

"The U.S. and China are planning to reduce tariffs on $30 billion worth of goods from each country"

--- They are planning it. I hope, the US also plans to actually keep count.

"However, it was not immediately clear when lower tariffs would take effect, and by how much the duties would go down."

--- Always good when agreements are so clear & thought through.

China posts weakest industrial profit growth this year, expanding 4.2% in August

"China’s industrial profits grew at their weakest pace this year, expanding just 4.2% in August from a year earlier, official data released Monday showed, as manufacturers grapple with persistent weakness in consumer demand and a sustained rise in energy costs. The muted growth in August marked the fourth straight month of deceleration"

--- Well, the profit 'growth' was limited to very few sectors, anyway:

"The earnings report also points to an increasingly bifurcated economy, with strong earnings growth in high-tech sectors, such as AI and robotics, whereas consumer-related industries like clothing, autos and furniture showed declining profits."

--- Most companies don't make much of a profit, quite the contrary, actually.

China moves towards stimulus as economic concerns grow

"China outlined efforts to revive faltering growth with plans for new economic support measures and renewed efforts to prop up the floundering property market."

--- & here we go again: Waiting for Godot ... er ... the great stimulus. This time it will definitely come.

Why Are China and Japan Still So Focused on the ‘Enemy State Clauses’ of the UN Charter?

"China maintains that the “enemy state clauses” continue to have relevance as institutional safeguards against the resurgence of fascism and militarism"

--- So, China sees also Germany still as the enemy. Someone should tell chancellor Merz.

"From China’s perspective, however, the postwar order is not merely a set of outdated institutional arrangements. It also embodies historical memory and political understandings concerning Japan’s wartime conduct and its subsequent role in Asia."

--- Bullshit. Why then was China in the 90's in favour of abolishing said articles? For emperor Xi, they are just political tools to harass Japan.
