[ENG] A chore day around the house, but I made sure to save some juice in the tank for the afternoon since I had mapped out some time for a bike ride. I rolled out later than planned, which forced me to cap the ride at about two hours. It's a shame, really—had I known the legs would feel that good, I definitely would have made an effort to get out earlier.

[ENG] As per usual, I didn't stick to a rigid route, piecing it together on the fly. I aimed for the canal path toward Nimy, then followed the water toward Brussels. Along the way, I rolled past two locks—short, mellow kickers. The real test of form came at the climb next to the massive Strépy-Thieu boat lift. A few hundred meters past the lift, along the upper canal, the bike path briefly veers away from the water. I chose not to loop back, knowing the path is blocked off about five kilometers further down. Returning along the historic Canal du Centre was equally unappealing due to ongoing, long-term construction works. So, I pivoted in the opposite direction toward Le Rœulx.

[ENG] I spent some time winding through the lanes around Le Rœulx. There are a handful of brilliant climbs there, and since vehicular traffic is virtually non-existent, the narrow roads are a treat to ride. Next up was Gottignies, a village I usually explore on foot during brisk walks with my wife. I had completely blanked on the fact that right after a fast descent, one side road kicks up into a brutal wall—how else would you describe an ascent averaging 12% with pitches hitting a blistering 18.6%? It felt like a legitimate sneak preview of my bucket-list climb up the Mur de Huy!

Pozwoliło mi to wreszcie trochę odpocząć i złapać tlen.

[ENG] It was a proper grind, but the real trouble came right after: attempting a shortcut, I blundered onto a hilly dirt trail. Instead of saving time, I got saddled with roughly three kilometers of bumpy gravel that eventually dumped me right back into Le Rœulx. When I finally hit tarmac again, another cyclist shot past. I seized the opportunity, tucked in behind him, and sat on his wheel for the next 3 to 4 kilometers. That gave me a much-needed breather to recover. It's just a pity he couldn't drag me all the way back into Mons—near Ville-sur-Haine our routes parted ways as he peeled off toward La Louvière while I pointed home.

[ENG] An awesome loop that I’ll definitely be revisiting—maybe tweaking the course, but keeping every single climb on the menu!
