In times when our sense of normalcy is shifting, we must hold on to our routines—like washing dishes, making our beds, going grocery shopping, and talking about familiar topics or those that relax us and give us a sense of security. And what better way to do that than by talking about travel? Topic suggested by my friend @emiliorios in Travel… That Experience of Self-Transformation and Healing. —And you don’t need to be Julia Roberts or Javier Bardem to achieve it - On “Seventh Day Sunday”. I understand the idea, and it’s excellent—it takes us to safe places within our minds and perhaps rekindles fond memories of those trips; because there’s nothing quite like going on a trip to a place that disconnects us from our routines.

The thing is, taking a trip requires a lot of advance planning: first, deciding where to go—taking into account, of course, our budget, the number of people, and the length of stay—while also considering the time of year, that is, whether it’s high or low season; where to stay—whether at a relative’s or friend’s house, or finding good lodging that meets the 3 Bs: good, nice, and cheap. Once you’ve got all these details figured out, let’s get ready to travel. The simple fact of having the prospect of traveling somewhere where we can disconnect from the world for a few days fills us with excitement, accompanied by a wonderful sense of adventure and well-being—even before we’ve left.

Personally, we used to travel as a family to one of the places where everyone at home is happy: the ocean, the beach. That’s why, when I listed all the steps involved in traveling, I was sharing my own experience, since I used to do all these things before we left for the beach in December; in recent years, we’ve returned to this trip to the beach to ring in the New Year—a family tradition. It seems unbelievable, but it was only this past year that, after having everything ready, we were unable to reach our destination because our car was in an accident—a very rare occurrence, since it had just undergone a thorough inspection; that was on December 31. So we had to make our way back home little by little, since it was impossible to get the car fixed by that date.

And well, all Venezuelans already know what happened on January 3… That’s when I realized the things God does to protect His children, because we were actually going to be staying near where part of the action unfolded. But look how I started and where I’m going with this, hahahahaha; let’s get back on track and add a new tip to keep in mind: when you have everything ready and there are still setbacks for that trip, don’t push your luck—just head home calmly, confident that everything turned out for the best, just as it did for us this time. Fortunately, my family took it that way too—no one got upset, and we all celebrated New Year’s at home.

Now, if you have the chance to travel or spend the night somewhere nice away from home, go for it. You’ll really come home feeling refreshed and revitalized, eager to move forward with your lives and even create new memories—and that’s wonderful. Cheers, friends!
