TAKANAKUY: DEEP WATERS AND SHADOWS / AGUAS PROFUNDAS Y SOMBRAS [ENG-ESP]

— José María Arguedas “The Andean rivers, of dark waters, descending from the snow... speak with a voice that the human soul cannot resist. And the highland man is like that river.” — José María Arguedas

Hello friends, just like every recent day, fighting against my system. To be honest, I find no refuge in this situation: a mind that feels like a prison of thoughts, storing dreams, traumas, pain, suffering, art, and expectations that always end up being defeated by the fear of not being enough. This is the only place where I publish my art; it is a place where many of my lost photos reside. I always remember my mother telling me, "this year is going to be better for you, son," and it isn't. I just want to heal, to fulfill my dreams and goals, but day by day it only seems impossible, a utopia.
Well, after philosophizing about my mind and its pessimism, I developed some photos from my archives—they are not recent, I won't lie, nor have I published them before. I've been very careful not to repeat them; I've been lucky that the little I managed to recover still has its marks and metadata. I hope you enjoy the Andean extravagance with its costumes and customs. In some photos, I decided to give it stronger blacks—I don't know, maybe it's how I feel. Even though I feel weak, the darkness in the photographs expresses a bit of what I feel or how I see the future right now.
I leave you with a phrase from the great José María Arguedas: "The Andean rivers, of dark waters, descending from the snow... speak with a voice that the human soul cannot resist. And the highland man is like that river." (Deep Rivers).
Blessings and good vibes. As a friend told me, good things for good people—even if sometimes that rule doesn't quite hold true.
