Greetings to the @womentribe community! I’m joining the initiative launched by our dear @syllem in her “Inspiring Words” column, which invites us to reflect on the topic: “Unlearning to Learn,” where she points out that if you want to achieve what you desire, you have to be willing to unlearn in order to learn. She also emphasizes that the key is this: if what you have isn’t working for you, you need to make room—whether for new ways of thinking, new emotions, new feelings, or anything else you need to incorporate into your life. Here’s my contribution:
I believe that life is full of negative things, but also of good and positive things, such as friendships, problems, decisions, and relationships. That’s why, in various situations, I’ve had to learn to filter out, separate, and unlearn what isn’t good for me.

Problems Are Part of Life
We all face problems in life—whether they’re financial, family-related, or involve friends or coworkers—because problems are part of life, and I must learn to live with them. The important thing is to identify which ones I can solve in the most practical and easy way possible, to minimize them as much as possible.
So, I can also learn to let go of situations that torment me or worry me more than they really should, turning them into problems that are far too big. For example, when I have disagreements with people around me—whether friends, coworkers, or even family members—I shouldn’t let any of them hurt me or prevent me from being happy.
When I think about the things that aren’t good for me, here are a few I’d like to share:
Unlearning the bad and holding on to the good—by learning to recognize the people who want to hurt me, who are envious, or who don’t want what’s best for others or for myself.
Unlearning to distance myself from those people or things that don’t contribute anything positive to my life—and I can do this by applying a filter, clearing out my life, and starting with my friendships, keeping only those who truly want the best for me.
Unlearn the habit of avoiding the pain or embarrassment of saying “no,” set aside the difficulty of saying this word—out of fear of looking bad in front of others or of being judged—but it’s necessary to start using it. In the end, I probably won’t have as many friends by my side, but I’d rather have just a few who are truly valuable—that way, I’ll feel more at peace and relieved, with fewer problems or worries that don’t deserve my attention.
Learning to let go
In particular, ever since I was a child, I was raised to get along peacefully with everyone, but over time I’ve come to understand that this is difficult. Although the values instilled in us at home should be upheld, I believe that when someone isn’t—or isn’t considered by us to be—a true or sincere friend, we can put some distance between us without disrupting the peace in our lives.
There are times when we might feel obligated to interact with people who, in one way or another, disrupt our lives; however, I have also learned to maintain a minimal level of contact with them.
When I’ve reached a certain age where I need to say “enough is enough”—even when it comes to toxic relationships or ones that aren’t right for me—I need to use my common sense to distance myself from people who don’t bring anything positive to my life, because I have to learn to let go in order to see how my life will begin to improve.
Aprender a soltar
Applying Filters to My Life
Given the breadth of this topic, it’s important to learn how to apply filters to my life, since focusing on the positive will be more beneficial for me and allow me to live in harmony with myself—which will in turn reflect positively on my loved ones and those around me.
I’m learning to stop letting problems overwhelm me and to apply this filter whenever I face a situation or difficulty in my life. I do this by staying calm and reminding myself that everything has a solution—except death. I try not to drown in the problem but to immediately look for a solution. It might take a little time, but there will always be a solution and a helping hand—someone who can help me or simply listen to me.
Aplicar filtros a mí vida
Change is the manifestation of growth
In any case, change is the manifestation of our ability to grow and become something different, because when that change happens in the people closest and dearest to me, it’s an opportunity to feel happy—even more so when it occurs within myself.
When I share those changes with others—by being true to who I am or who I have become— I allow myself to rejoice and let others know about the awareness that comes with that transformation.
I think that as we grow up and go through life—as beings created in God’s image and likeness—we develop our free will, our logic, and our common sense. I believe it is all of that which helps us determine with whom to foster and maintain a relationship—whether it be a professional relationship, a romantic partnership, or a friendship—for many years and, if possible, for a lifetime.
