Greetings, friends of the #LadiesofHive community! In this week’s edition, which invites us to reflect on the questions posed by @chacald.dcymt, here’s my contribution:

1. Tell us about a time when someone made an incorrect assumption about you without knowing the facts. How did you handle it? How did it make you feel?

I think it’s good and positive when I allow myself to focus on what’s inside me, rather than on the outside. Looking outward makes me seek someone to blame for what I’m going through, but when I turn my gaze inward, I take responsibility for my life, and I can even be proactive.

1. Cuéntanos alguna vez que alguien haya hecho una suposición errónea sobre ti, sin conocer los hechos. ¿Cómo lo manejaste? ¿Cómo te hizo sentir?

Creo que es bueno y positivo cuando me permito fijar mi mirada a lo que tengo en mi interior, en comparación a lo exterior. Mirar hacia el exterior me hace buscar culpables de lo que estoy viviendo, pero cuando pongo mi vista hacia dentro de mi ser, me hago responsable de mi vida, e incluso puedo ser proactiva.

Highlighting My Personality

Sometimes circumstances or other people can make us think and believe that we don’t have the potential or the necessary resources to achieve everything we dream of, but I think that’s not actually the case.

I remember some time ago, when I was working as a coordinator in the treasury department of the institution from which I am now retired, a young woman who had just been appointed chief accountant tried to make it seem as though my job didn’t suit my personality, since I was, in a way, a quiet person. However, on several occasions, I expressed and brought out my personality when I couldn’t agree with certain injustices.

Resaltar mi personalidad

A veces las circunstancias o las personas pueden hacernos pensar y creer que no tenemos el potencial o los recursos necesarios para alcanzar todo aquello que soñamos, pero pienso que en realidad no es así.

Recuerdo hace algún tiempo, cuando estuve trabajando como, coordinadora en el área de tesorería, de la Institución donde actualmente soy jubilada, una chica recién nombrada jefe contable, buscaba hacer ver que mi labor no era acorde con mi carácter, ya que en cierto modo yo era una persona callada, sin embargo, varias veces expresaba y sacaba a relucir mi personalidad cuando no podía estar de acuerdo con algunas injusticias.

Experience Can’t Be Improvised

On several occasions, I’ve shown that experience can’t be improvised. The fact is, to reach the position of head of that department, I had to work in and learn from every role within that unit, always with the best attitude toward learning and growing professionally. I can proudly say that I served as coordinator for ten years.

So, since I already knew that the tools and resources I need to grow as a woman and as a person come from within—rather than from outside sources—even though her comment rubbed me the wrong way, I didn’t take it personally.

La experiencia no se improvisa

En diferentes ocasiones fui demostrando que la experiencia no se improvisa y es que para llegar al cargo de jefe de ese departamento, tuve que desempeñar y aprender de cada puesto que conformaban esa unidad, con la mejor actitud de aprender y evolucionar profesionalmente. Puedo decir con orgullo que estuve diez años como coordinadora.

Entonces como ya sabía que en mi interior es donde tengo las herramientas y el material que necesito para mejorar como mujer y persona, contrario a estar buscando en el exterior, su comentario aún cuando me cayó mal, no lo tomé de manera personal.

The First Step Toward Freedom from Many Things

Some time later, the girl quit her job, and that made me realize that nothing in life is static; life is constant movement, change, and transformation, because environments, circumstances, and people can change. By becoming aware of this reality, I came to realize that change is an essential and necessary part of my life.

When I discovered that I have everything I need inside me to feel good—that is the beginning of being free from many things, including what other people think of me.

El comienzo para ser libre de muchas cosas

Tiempo después, la chica renunció y eso me hizo ver que en la vida nada es estático, la vida representa constante movimiento, cambio y transformación, pues el ambiente, las circunstancias y las personas pueden cambiar, al hacerme consciente de esta realidad, pude darme cuenta de que el cambio es una parte esencial y necesaria en mí vida.

Cuando descubrí que en mi interior tengo todo lo que necesito para sentirme bien, que es el comienzo para ser libre de muchas cosas, e incluso de lo que piensan las demás personas de mí.

Learning from One Another

I believe that in every situation, and when dealing with all kinds of people, we can bring out the best in ourselves. If we learn to make good and positive use of everything that happens to us, even the most inconsiderate person—or even someone who is hostile toward us—can help us improve.

For example, doing the things I enjoy, giving my best, maximizing my potential and resources, taking responsibility for my feelings, emotions, and decisions, as well as appreciating the value and greatness in others, just as reflected in the mission to empower and encourage the voices of those who identify as women in the Ladies of Hive community—as well as men—since we are here to support, encourage, and learn from one another.

Aprender unos de otros

Pienso que en toda situación, y frente a todo tipo de personas, podemos sacar lo mejor de nosotras. Si aprendemos a hacer uso correcto y positivo de cuanto nos sucede, incluso, la persona más desconsiderada y hasta adversaria hacia nosotras, puede ayudarnos a mejorar.

Por ejemplo, hacer las cosas que me gustan, dar lo mejor, maximizar mi potencial y recursos, hacerme responsable de mis sentimientos, emociones y decisiones, así como apreciar el valor y la grandeza en los demás, tal como lo refleja la misión de empoderar y alentar las voces que se identifiquen como mujeres en la Comunidad de Ladies of Hive, así como los caballeros, ya que estamos aquí para apoyarnos, animarnos y aprender unos de otros.

2. We recently wrote about our favorite colors and how they make us feel. But how has your favorite color changed over time? What prompted that change?

I particularly like to wear and mix and match different colors in my outfits for everyday wear, depending on my mood.

However, there have been times when, after an exhausting day, I close my eyes and wish I were on a beach enjoying the sea reflecting the blue sky; then I let myself get lost or disappear into a lush, green field, or watch the sunset.

2.Recientemente escribimos sobre nuestros colores favoritos y cómo nos hacen sentir. Pero, ¿cómo ha cambiado tu color favorito con el tiempo? ¿Qué impulsó ese cambio?

En particular me gusta usar y combinar diferentes colores en mi ropa para vestir diariamente y de acuerdo a mi estado de ánimo.

Sin embargo, me ha pasado que después de un día agotador, cierro los ojos y deseo estar en una playa disfrutar del mar reflejo del cielo azul, luego me permito perderme o desaparecer a un campo verde, frondoso, o mirar un atardecer.

My favorite is green

So I can say that I love the color blue, but my favorite is green. I realize that when I try to imagine myself in those landscapes, it helps me relax my mind, eases my unease, and inspires pleasant thoughts and emotions.

Although I live in an apartment, my habit of living “green” has greatly helped my emotional well-being. Thank God, my daughter and I have created our own natural sanctuary at home—a warm, fresh space with a garden on the balcony, full of vibrant colors, that allows me to rest when stress threatens to overwhelm my day.

Mi favorito es el verde

Entonces puedo decir que me encanta el color azul, pero mi favorito es el verde, me doy cuenta que cuando intento proyectarme en esos paisajes, me permite relajar mi mente, disminuyen mi malestar y me estimulan a pensamientos gratos y emociones agradables.

Aunque vivo en un apartamento, mi hábito de vivir en lo “verde”, me ha ayudado en gran manera con mi bienestar emocional, pues gracias a Dios junto con mi hija hemos creado en la casa nuestro propio santuario al natural, un espacio con un jardín en el balcón, cálido, fresco, con colores vivos, que me permite descansar cuando llegan las tensiones a querer agobiar mi día.

All of this makes my world a place to embrace meditation, peace, and balance. Although I don’t feel strong every day, I thank God for sustaining me—even more so when I can choose the attitudes that help me flourish like a beautiful garden, with every plant in that wonderful shade of green.

I give thanks to our Creator and allow myself to cherish every moment I experience in my city, because just by looking out the window, I have the opportunity to see the landscape of lush trees and the contrast it offers—since we’re in a valley surrounded by mountains—and thus enjoy nature right from my home.

Con todo este entorno hacen de mi mundo un espacio para reivindicar la meditación, la paz y el equilibrio, aunque no todos los días me siento fuerte, pero agradezco a Dios por sostenerme, más aún si puedo escoger las actitudes que mejor me hagan florecer como en un hermoso jardín, con cada planta de ese maravilloso color verde.

Doy gracias a nuestro creador y me permito valorar cada momento que vivo en mi ciudad, porque con sólo mirar por la ventana, tengo la oportunidad de ver el paisaje de árboles frondosos y su contraste, al ser un valle rodeado de montañas y así disfrutar de la naturaleza desde mi hogar.
