Back From A Week Away

IMG_2809.jpeg

Some good food grilled with my cousin.

Just got back from a week away from home. Took off to stay with my cousin again. Had a good time, but didn't do all that much. The temps outside were stupid hot. Usually we're tinkering around with something. An old engine or building something. Not this time around. We're both getting older and don't take the heat like we used to. Especially me.

We did build a gate for his dad's house before it got too crazy hot one day. Felt good to get something done. Most of the time though we spent doing things like canning tomatoes. Which was an inside job. Smart move given the heat.

It was nice to get away. Give the wife some alone time as well. Sometimes you both need a little space. Healthy for the marriage.

Speaking of which. While I was away, she went hammer down in the basement. Identified all kinds of stuff to donate, trash, or recycle. Tons of it. We already loaded up the vehicle with recycling and hauled it away. However our trash dumpster is just not all that big. It would take weeks to get rid of it all. So we're going to call a junk removal service. We still have one section of the basement to finish though before we do that.

Between the garage, the shed, and now the basement, we're making serious progress on cleaning out years of accumulated stuff. One space at a time. One load at a time. It feels good to let things go. Stuff you don't need. Stuff you forgot you had. Stuff that's just been sitting there taking up space.

Lighter is better.

What have you all been up to?

  • Ahh the bbq looks so good.

D'you like giving her a hand, Joe, or does she like hammering away the house on her own? Haha.

Men in our house always say my future husband is going to suffer a nervous breakdown with the way Im always tinkering with everything I see... 😆 It's very therapeutic for me, and I think it's the same for your wife.

And yeah, it's nice to miss each other once in a while! Anyway, I'm glad to see you chilling.

I don't handle the heat as much these days either. Maybe our thermoregulation is fucked with age. Sounds like fun anyway and good on the better half for having a tidy up. Very therapeutic and maybe an inch toward your move to a dream place?

My friend, I had been wondering how you were doing. It’s great that you got out of the house and were doing other things. I’ve been tidying up and clearing things out, too. I’m going back to work soon, so I need to sort through papers and books to make room for the new ones coming in this next semester. It was good to hear from you. Best regards, and take care.

  • Good ideal, I should "Hammer down" and simply get rid of my clutter without overthinking over each one, like tearing off the bandage quick rather agonizingly slow.

Glad you took some time away. And space in a marriage is always a healthy thing, I agree. Sounds like fun over with your cousin getting a gate built and even canning tomatoes. It is the season!

Great job on cleaning out some of the old stuff out of the house. That's never easy...

    How have you been feeling?

  • @beelzael(75)· 23d

Sounds like great progress! I have to tackle Lily's room one of these days... it's been 6 months now that she's gone, and probably will be longer, which means she won't fit most of her clothes anymore. Not something I'm looking forward to, though I try not to be too emotional about it. Which is hard.

The rest of life is doing great. I'm working a lot and having a lot of fun doing so, streamlining a lot of the administration parts of business, which will result in less cost over time. I'm at a point where I'm considering doing the administration myself, as I reduced the workload so much, and my administrator could focus on his restaurant. Right now, he's dancing on too many weddings at once as we say in Germany, and nothing gets done the way it could be. Would be great to balance that out. And since I have time on my hands, why not? I'm sure that I can find even more ways to make administration easier.

Not much time for Hive, though. Few articles I write, some photo posts, but nothing that big really. Real life is priority. But I was happy to see a post of yours pop up in my time-line, so I wanted to respond to that and wish you well!

Glad you got some time away! Yes, that is good for both parties in a relationship!

I heard a definition of "junk" a few years ago, amusing but true: "Junk is what you keep for 10 years, then throw away the day before you need it." 😆

Did you at least get to have a say in some of the stuff. My wife does the same thing and she is usually right about most of it, but then there are times I am looking for something and it turns out she threw it away months before.

I'd checked your blog yesterday trying to see if there was a new post from you since the last time I got on here. Unfortunately, the one I came across was almost 2 weeks old.

How nice that I get to read one the day after?😊 It's great to hear that you had time with your cousin, away from home. Sometimes, what we truly need is this kind of getaway to just feel something different, see the outside more and bond with the ones you don't see every other day.

My favourite part might be you both having your wives spend time alone, while being productive at will. Well done! Have great week as well.🤗
