Jupiler League Week 4 Sunday Previews

These are previews from matches involving Belgian Teams with all the latest on team news, player form, and injuries along with my personal betting angles, ...

Genk quickly took the lead which made it a rather easy match for them and I only got in one tiny bet later in the match on the under as it was clear that Beveren didn't want a total punishment while Genk really wanted to make a statement taking a clean sheet. That ended in half a winner putting me still around break even on the week so far. I do notice that my focus can be better during the match so I will try to work on that today during the 4 matches...

AA Gent vs Club Brugge

So basically Club Brugge is a team I will not oppose (at least not on the moneyline). They haven't played that great but they don't need it to win matches. Leko also isn't happy with the style of play and want it to be more attractive instead of aimless possession (80% / 61% / 74% in first matches). What they did do well is create corners at 6-16-9 in the first 3 matches and I do expect them to up their focus with an eye on the upcoming Champions League matches. AA Gent started the season with poor offensive and midfield quality but a very stable defense. They played a mid-week match and somewhat flattering managed to qualify for the conference league against Hibernian in an away match. I see them as a team with potential surely but mainly against the weaker opponents and less so against top teams. Fatigue because the away match might be an issue but at the same time also the confidence boost. I expect a match where Club Brugge once again has the ball a lot but takes a bit more risk forward and as always just takes home the 3 points one way or another. Odds have comed down already a bit to a level where I'm less confident but I did manage to get in a 0.183 unit bet on Club Brugge 1st Half -0.25 @ 1.909. I had the intention to possibly increase my stake during the week which is why I did not share it on Discord but I'll wait for the match and also kind of hope to get in on Club Brugge in case Gent would score first. I do think Club Brugge should once again be the team with all the initiative and I can see Gent playing more on the counter. Given the high corner numbers from Club so far, I took 0.3 units on Club Brugge 1st Half -0.5 Corners @ 1.800 along with a 60 USDC crypto bet on Club Brugge 1st Half -1.5 Corners @ 2.540 over at dexsport.io

Antwerp vs Sint-Truiden

Antwerp so far has done better than I expected as by the end of last year with all the key players leaving, they were left with a young team that clearly was not good enough. They used the home advantage in the first match against Beveren and took a narrow 2-1 win. Against Kortrijk away they were highly efficient getting a flattering 0-3 score and against Genk at home it was a crazy match where they came back from a 1-4 score to 4-4 in the last 10 minutes. So if anything they won't drop their belief and I expect them to have the home crowd behind them. At the same time, I don't see them as good as their results indicate so far which mainly came because of rather poor opponents. Stvv is a team who are expected to suffer this season because of the European load. The qualified for the conference league but did not manage to beat Omonia where it kind of showed that they are not a team who is able to lock things and will get goals against. In the league so far they had 1.49 & 4.15 xg against versus Lommel (at home) and Cercle (away) . At home they managed to do wel creating 1-way traffic after falling 0-1 behind getting that to 1-1 and they also could/should have won. In Cercle they took an ealy lead and crawled back too much afterward with Cercle as the slight better team overall and Stvv goalkeeper Kokuba as the best player. I kind of expect a match with an open view from both teams and likely the one who scores first to crawl back which might create a nice opportunity to bet on corners. I have not enough confidence in Antwerp to consider betting them, but also don't fully trust stvv and the hope advantage to oppose them. I would not be surprised to see goals so if the early match picture looks attractive, I might go for a small bet on a high odds total handicap line. for now, No Pre-Game Bets

Union vs Anderlecht

Union were a total powerhouse at home last season with an air tight defense. I see both of these fatcors as a lot weaker this season. They no longer have Burgess and Scherpen while Koffi is bound to make stupid mistakes sooner than later. In the 2 matches so far they crushed Westerlo with a 1-5 score but actually had a difficult 1st half and Westerlo has shown to be really bad. At home against Zulte-Waregem they didn't get further than a 0-0 draw and maybe even should have lost as the visitors got a fully valid goal disallowed. Anderlecht looks a lot better compared to last season and also got a boost since they managed to qualify for the Europa League after a home mid-week match where they won easily without having to put in much effort. Basically, I see Anderlecht stronger compared to last season and Union weaker while the line is pretty much the same as last year. Anderlecht remains a team who can have good and bad periods in the same match and win or lose against anyone, so I opted for low stake high odds in a 0.14 unit bet on Anderlecht +0 @ 3.858 which just feels quite a bit too high for me. I'm also kind of leaning toward the over but need to see a bit more first.

Westerlo vs Zulte-Waregem

This is one of those matches where the odds have caught up to the situation quickly. Westerlo sold a ton of players for good money and their strategy is mainly to get young players and sell them for more. However, too many changes and uncertain quality now makes them a very unstable team also without the best mentality as players were laughing and just listening to music after taking a 0 on 9 and gettig 12 goals against in 3 matches. their coach also doesn't seem to know how to tactically solve things and it's just not looking good at the moment. So Zulte-Waregem is made the favorite away in this spot. They took a 2-1 win against Genk mainly because Genk just gave it away. They started out playing on the counter in Union but overall were the slight better team in the 2nd half and also showed in the 2nd half that they are just an ok team. Last week at home, they also managed to win 4-0 against Beveren not giving anything away while being super efficient. So purely based on the play so far (maybe aside from the first half of Westerlo at home against Brugge), Zulte-Waregem even as the favorite feels like the value even though it's just scary to bet such a line in an away match as Westerlo does have the potential and purely on the names/home advantage the handicap should be the other way around at -0.25 for Westerlo. i'm just opting to stay away from this one for now.
