¡Hola, amigos! Nuevamente estoy por aquí para contarles otra experiencia de mi viaje por Maturín. Esta vez les comparto el recorrido de regreso a mi ciudad natal, Cumaná.

​Aunque el viaje es un poco cansado, debo decirles que cada vez que recorro esta ruta siento que me enamoro aún más de mi país, Venezuela, y de la infinita belleza que nos regala la naturaleza. Cada pueblo por el que pasamos es tan hermoso que provoca hacer parada y disfrutarlo. Todos estos pueblos tienen su propia historia, representan un pasado lleno de vida y evocan cierta nostalgia. Por eso, cuando tengo la oportunidad de transitar por estos rumbos, me gusta detenerme a comprar algunas cosas y aprovechar para conocer un poco más sobre la vida de su gente. Realmente es una experiencia increíble.

Hi, friends! I’m back again to tell you about another experience from my trip through Maturín. This time, I’m sharing my journey back to my hometown, Cumaná.

​> Although the trip is a little tiring, I have to tell you that every time I travel this route, I feel myself falling even more in love with my country, Venezuela, and with the infinite beauty that nature gives us. Every town we pass through is so beautiful that it makes you want to stop and enjoy it. All these towns have their own history; they represent a past full of life and evoke a certain nostalgia. That’s why, whenever I have the chance to travel these roads, I like to stop and buy a few things and take the opportunity to learn a little more about the lives of the people there. It really is an incredible experience.

​En el trayecto de regreso vamos contemplando la vista, el clima, la lluvia y la amabilidad de las personas. Hay tantas cosas que me gustaría compartir, pero a veces me resulta difícil bajarme del carro a tomar fotos porque se vuelve agotador y el viaje se hace más largo. Imagínense si nos detuviéramos en cada pueblo; nos tomaría más de un día, ya que hay muchísimos lugares hermosos que invitan a hacer una parada. A mí me encanta porque así aprendo más sobre mi país y sobre estas regiones que tienen tantas historias por contar.

​Esta vez hicimos varias paradas, sobre todo en los lugares donde venden productos frescos y a buen precio. Lo primero que encontramos en el camino es una larga calle repleta de puestos de casabe; allí hacemos nuestra primera parada obligatoria, ya que a mi madre le fascina el casabe que preparan por esa zona. Después nos detuvimos donde venden arepas de maíz pilado y así nos fuimos por todo el camino, observando qué podíamos comprar, aunque ya tenemos varios puntos fijos para adquirir ciertas cosas. ​Una de las compras que más disfruto hacer en la vía son los aguacates y las naranjas. Cuando es temporada, es aún mejor, porque se consiguen grandes, jugosos y a precios muy asequibles.

On the way back, we take in the scenery, the weather, the rain, and the kindness of the people. There are so many things I’d like to share, but sometimes I find it hard to get out of the car to take photos because it gets tiring and makes the trip feel longer. Imagine if we stopped in every town—it would take us more than a day, since there are so many beautiful places that invite you to stop. I love it because this way I learn more about my country and about these regions that have so many stories to tell.

This time we made several stops, especially at places where they sell fresh produce at good prices. The first thing we came across on the road was a long street lined with casabe stalls; that’s where we made our first mandatory stop, since my mother loves the casabe they make in that area. Then we stopped at a place that sells arepas made from ground corn, and we continued on our way, looking for things to buy, even though we already have a few regular spots where we get certain items. ​One of the things I most enjoy buying along the way is avocados and oranges. When they’re in season, it’s even better, because they’re big, juicy, and very affordable.

​Durante este viaje también nos encontramos en la vía a un muchacho que estaba vendiendo raspados. Como teníamos bastante tiempo sin ver a un vendedor de raspados por allí, no dudamos en detenernos a comprar. Más adelante llegamos a la casa del señor Carlos, un sitio donde siempre compramos hallacas porque son buenísimas.

A pesar de que el trayecto cansa, disfruto enormemente el viaje por su clima fresco y agradable, e incluso por la neblina que frecuentemente adorna la carretera y nos invita a quedarnos. ​Lo más bonito de estas rutas no es solo lo que compramos, sino las conexiones que hacemos. Con el tiempo, la gente de estos puestos ya nos reconoce y nos trata como parte de su familia; hasta nos regalan cosas. Esta vez nos dieron limones, café o unos ricos jovitos para el camino.

​>During this trip, we also came across a young man selling raspados along the road. Since it had been quite a while since we’d seen a raspado vendor around there, we didn’t hesitate to stop and buy some. Further along, we arrived at Mr. Carlos’s house, a place where we always buy hallacas because they’re absolutely delicious.

Even though the journey is tiring, I really enjoy the trip because of the cool, pleasant weather—and even the fog that often blankets the road and makes us want to stay a while. The best part of these routes isn’t just what we buy, but the connections we make. Over time, the people at these stands have come to recognize us and treat us like family; they even give us free things. This time, they gave us lemons, coffee, and some delicious jovitos for the road.

Les puedo decir que cada viaje que hacemos nos regala nuevos aprendizajes, muchas anécdotas y, lo mejor de todo, recuerdos maravillosos que quedan grabados en el corazón. Así que viajar por nuestro país nos recuerda lo maravilloso que es nuestra tierra y lo valiosa que es su gente. Por lo tanto, aunque el trayecto sea largo enseguida al llegar a casa, la mente ya empieza a planear la próxima salida.

I can tell you that every trip we take brings us new lessons, plenty of stories, and—best of all—wonderful memories that stay etched in our hearts. So traveling around our country reminds us just how wonderful our land is and how valuable its people are. That’s why, even though the journey is long, as soon as we get home, our minds are already starting to plan the next trip.
