Exploring Locorotondo! (Bari, Italy)

ENG

Good morning dear Hivers, and welcome back to my blog.

Locorotondo is one of Puglia’s most charming villages, perched on a hill in the Itria Valley, in the province of Bari.

Its name literally means "Round Place" and stems from the historic center's distinctive circular layout; the town unfolds in concentric circles around its highest point, creating a unique urban landscape.

ITA

The village is best known for its cummerse, the typical white houses featuring sloping roofs covered in characteristic local limestone slabs.

With their clean, minimalist lines, these buildings line narrow, winding alleys, creating a picturesque setting that makes Locorotondo one of the region's most photographed villages. It is no surprise that it belongs to the prestigious "Most Beautiful Villages in Italy" (Borghi più belli d'Italia) association and has been awarded the "Orange Flag" by the Italian Touring Club.

What I appreciated most about this small village was the wonderful biodiversity of its plants and flowers.

Strolling through the historic center, you sense a quiet, well-cared-for atmosphere: flower-filled balconies, whitewashed facades, and small wooden doorways tell the story of an architectural tradition passed down through the centuries.

Must-see sights include the Mother Church of San Giorgio (Chiesa Madre di San Giorgio), with its elegant Baroque facade, and the Villa Comunale, a panoramic garden offering breathtaking views of the Itria Valley.

Southern Italy is beautiful. Thank you for sharing these photos of lovely Italian streets and flowers.
