Life seems unfair, someone is happily enjoying life out there; lavishing money on luxuries but another is somewhere, having nothing and even sick without having anyone to come through for him or her.
But what can we say? It's just life; these things can never cease to be; there will always be people in distress. Sometimes it's just a way of life, toughening them to become what they are supposed to be, and other times, it's just misfortune.
I have seen several crowdfunding activities on social media; the recent one was that of a Plateau student who was kidnapped on his way to Kaduna from school to see his parents.
His story was a pathetic one because the ransom levied on him was great, and his family was just ordinary people, still struggling with life.
The social media community raised an alarm, and money was raised to support the young man. Glory be to God, he was released at the end of the day.
I think crowdfunding is a nice idea; people are suffering, and not everyone can afford money for certain conditions.
There are people in cases of sickness whose conditions are bigger than they are. Imagine someone from a poor background being charged twenty million naira for treatment; how will they raise the money?
But when the crowd intervenes, with support coming from different people across the nation and even outside of it, something reasonable can be generated.
Through support like this, a lot of lives were saved, and a lot of dreams that would have died were protected.
Nevertheless, our world is corrupt; most people are out there seeking the slightest opportunity to take advantage of those with pure and sympathetic hearts.
Personally, I don't often trust those social media crowdfunding campaigns. Severally, we have seen people fabricate stories and back them up with tangible evidential pictures just to extort money from people.
Some don't even need to create the stories themselves; they wait for an original activity to occur, then clone it and divert the funds.
As casual as this sounds, some wicked people have been using this method to loot millions from people.
With things like this occurring, honestly, it's a bit difficult for me to believe some of those stories demanding funds online.
If it's physical, I don't have problems with it, but anything online is usually not appealing to me.
Scams out there are many; even if the story is true, we can not be sure that the money will eventually get to the victim.
The heart of man is evil. There is nothing that can convince me to fully believe those requests online, even if I know the committee behind it. I would rather give direct support if I know the patient.
Nothing hurts like giving out your money with the thought that you are saving a soul only to discover that it was a scam or someone walked away with the funds.
Meanwhile, I am not discouraging those who are convinced to raise money with the crowd to support others. The truth is, the act of giving is like a risk, but as a giver, you just give and never be concerned about whether the money is getting to the needed place or not.
This sounds unreasonable, but that's just it: just give and let it go; otherwise, you would just carry an unnecessary burden on your head.
And it is also very wise to verify the information and also those taking the money, and be sure that everything is right before going further to give your money, to save yourself from falling into the hands of scammers.
