¡Hola amigos lectores! Hoy les traigo la reseña de un libro del que estoy haciendo una relectura, estoy volviendo a leer la saga Acotar de Sarah J. Maas y acá les vengo a hablar acerca del primer libro: Una corte de rosas y espinas. 

Hello, readers! Today I’m bringing you a review of a book I’m currently rereading—I’m going back through Sarah J. Maas’s A Court of Thorns and Roses series, and I’m here to talk about the first book: A Court of Thorns and Roses.

La historia sigue a Feyre, una joven humana que un día entró al bosque para cazar animales para darle de comer a su familia que está en la pobreza y termina matando a un lobo que no era un lobo, sino un fae transformado. El tratado dice que una vida se paga por una vida, sin embargo, el fae encargado de juzgarla se la lleva prisionera para su corte, la Corte Primavera, en las fronteras entre las tierras humanas y Prythian, donde viven los inmortales, seres con poderes y magia de todos los niveles, formas y colores. Allí va a tener que enfrentarse a su nueva realidad mientras empieza a generar sentimientos por uno de estos faes, Tamlin, que resulto ser el Alto Lord de la Corte Primavera. Pero él, y toda su corte, está bajo el hechizo de una mujer fae muy poderosa que tiene a todo Prythian aterrorizada, y Feyre será la clave para terminar con esta esclavitud.

The story follows Feyre, a young human woman who one day ventured into the forest to hunt animals to feed her family, who live in poverty, and ends up killing a wolf that wasn’t actually a wolf, but a transformed fae. The treaty states that a life must be paid for with a life; however, the fae charged with judging her takes her prisoner to his court, the Spring Court, on the border between human lands and Prythian, where the immortals live—beings with powers and magic of all levels, forms, and colors. There, she’ll have to come to terms with her new reality as she begins to develop feelings for one of these fae, Tamlin, who turns out to be the High Lord of the Spring Court. But he—and his entire court—is under the spell of a very powerful fae woman who has all of Prythian living in terror, and Feyre will be the key to ending this enslavement.

Decidí releer la saga porque la leí hace unos 4 años y en octubre sale el nuevo libro, entonces me dieron ganas de refrescar la memoria para estar bien preparada, y lo bien que hice. Esta es la primera relectura que hago del libro y de verdad que hay cosas que no recordaba y otras que las estoy viendo con otros ojos porque ya sé todo lo que va a pasar. Hay conversaciones que antes pasaba por alto, pero ahora le presto más atención porque sé que esconden información importante que me ayudará más adelante.

I decided to reread the series because I read it about four years ago, and the new book is coming out in October, so I wanted to refresh my memory to be well prepared—and I’m so glad I did. This is the first time I’ve reread the book, and honestly, there are things I didn’t remember and others that I’m seeing in a new light now that I know everything that’s going to happen. There are conversations I used to overlook, but now I’m paying closer attention to them because I know they contain important information that will help me later on.

Como siempre, adoré a Feyre, mi corazón está con ella, y seguí odiando como la trataba su familia cuando estaban en la pobreza. Recordemos que Feyre es la menor de 3 hermanas y aún así fue la única que trató de llevar comida a su cabaña durante todos esos años. Ella tiene una hermana amargada, Nesta, y otra malcriada, Elain. Además de un padre invalido que poco hizo por ellas en aquellos años. Aún así, no me fastidio tanto la actitud de Nesta porque con el correr de la saga, y más en el quinto libro, aprendí a quererla y ahora es mi reina absoluta, pero bueno, no me adelantaré a eso. Sin embargo, sí le presté atención al hecho de que, a pesar de su actitud, Nesta fue la única que intentó buscar a Feyre cuando Tamlin se la llevó a sus tierras para saldar la deuda sobre el tratado. Ese hecho se me hizo clave.

As always, I loved Feyre—my heart goes out to her—and I continued to hate the way her family treated her when they were living in poverty. Let’s not forget that Feyre is the youngest of three sisters, and yet she was the only one who tried to bring food back to their cabin all those years. She has a bitter sister, Nesta, and a spoiled one, Elain. Plus, she has a disabled father who did very little for them back then. Even so, Nesta’s attitude doesn’t bother me that much because, as the series progressed—and especially in the fifth book—I learned to love her, and now she’s my absolute queen, but anyway, I won’t get ahead of myself. However, I did take note of the fact that, despite her attitude, Nesta was the only one who tried to find Feyre when Tamlin took her to his lands to settle the debt under the treaty. That fact struck me as key.

De nuevo, también amé a Lucien porque él es mi protegido, me di cuenta que en ninguno de estos cinco libros que salieron hasta ahora fue realmente feliz y necesito que lo sea. Sin embargo, sí me cayó mal Tamlin y vi todas las red flag que antes pasé por alto. Es increíble toda la visión que da una relectura, puedo prestarle atención a partes que antes quizás no porque estaba más apurada por seguir leyendo para ver cómo concluía todo, y ahora que ya lo sé es más fácil mirar otros detalles. Por eso me gustan las relecturas, no son para nada una pérdida de tiempo y pueden ser muy productivas y esclarecedoras.

Once again, I also loved Lucien because he’s my favorite character; I realized that in none of these five books that have come out so far has he been truly happy, and I need him to be. However, I did end up disliking Tamlin, and I saw all the red flags I’d overlooked before. It’s amazing how much insight a reread provides—I can pay attention to parts I might have skipped before because I was in such a hurry to keep reading and see how it all ended, and now that I know the ending, it’s easier to notice other details. That’s why I like rereading—it’s not a waste of time at all and can be very productive and enlightening.

Me divertí mucho en esta relectura, me volvió a cautivar como la primera vez y eso es lo importante. Y me volví a reencontrar con mi Alto Lord de la Corte Noche, acá Rhysand. Es impresionante, pero creo que lo amo más que antes, ¡qué hombre! Es que todo lo que hizo por Feyre cuando estuvo prisionera en Bajo la montaña y lo mucho que la ayudó, hasta estuvo dispuesto a morir por ella cuando ni la conocía todavía, mientras el que supuestamente la amaba no hizo nada más que mirar. Salí más indignada de esta relectura que antes jajaja. 

I had so much fun rereading this—it captivated me all over again, just like the first time, and that’s what matters. And I got to reconnect with my High Lord of the Night Court, Rhysand. He’s amazing—I think I love him even more than before. What a man! I mean, everything he did for Feyre when she was a prisoner in Under the Mountain, and how much he helped her—he was even willing to die for her when he didn’t even know her yet—while the guy who was supposedly in love with her did nothing but stand by and watch. I came away from this reread even more outraged than before, hahaha.

En definitiva, amé reencontrarme con esta historia y sus personajes, ya estoy releyendo el segundo libro y pronto les estaré trayendo mi opinión nuevamente. Si no leíste la saga te la recomiendo mucho, sobre todo si te gusta la fantasía y el romantasy.

All in all, I loved revisiting this story and its characters. I’m already rereading the second book, and I’ll be sharing my thoughts with you again soon. If you haven’t read the series, I highly recommend it—especially if you like fantasy and romantasy.
