Hello, friends in the Womentribe community! I hope you're all doing great. Today I'm here to share another reflection on @syllem's inspiring words about whether we should be private about our lives—or the exact opposite.
Part of my personality and nature is being reserved; it’s been a part of me for as long as I can remember, and it’s not an act to make myself seem interesting or aloof—it’s simply who I am. So it’s very common for me to move in the shadows, never saying too much; in fact, the people around me sometimes find out about things months after they’ve already happened. It’s just that I didn’t feel like sharing it while it was happening, so I decided to keep it to myself for a while.
My mom gets mad because she says I never tell her anything, but it’s not personal—it’s just the way I am. But yeah, the truth is, I find it easier to talk about certain topics with other people. Mostly, the ones I end up telling everything to are my friends, but that’s because I know they don’t judge me and they support me, plus they give me good advice.
I’m aware that there are thoughts and plans I keep to myself because I like it that way; it’s a way to maintain a certain level of privacy that I often lack. It’s funny, but I feel like no one knows everything I keep secret, and sometimes I do wish people could see me for who I really am—with everything inside me—but that feeling lasts only a moment. I feel that maintaining privacy in my life gives me a certain sense of power, and I tend to get angry when people I don’t trust try to pry into it; I’ve even gotten upset with my mother when she talks too much and ends up sharing things about me that nobody asked her about. It’s not necessary—knowing this doesn’t change these people’s lives—but it makes me uncomfortable that they know.
I don't think I have a mysterious aura because, despite what I tell you, I'm pretty open about my emotions. Maybe no one knows what I'm going to do next, but if you pay attention, you might be able to tell from my face and my daily actions. I’m actually just reserved, and ultimately, if people ask me the right questions, I have no problem answering—but people don’t know how to ask either. So I keep moving in the shadows even when it seems like I’m stuck; no, I’m just moving forward in my own way, even if others can’t see it. Then I’ll let them know what’s new.
Being reserved can be a good thing because it protects you from other people’s envy and negative thoughts, and it can also help you learn to handle situations quietly, since no one can interfere because they don’t know what you’re doing. This can be counterproductive, but it makes me feel better; I like still having control over certain parts of my life that belong only to me, and it’s my decision to choose whom to reveal them to when the time comes.
I don’t know what it’s like to be on the other side—to be someone who tells everything—because it’s never happened to me. So I still prefer to keep to myself; sometimes when I say too much, I regret it. But other times, it makes me feel bad that I haven’t shared something that happened a long time ago, so I don’t see the point in doing it now, and I just keep that feeling to myself. It can be a double-edged sword if we take it to these extremes where it doesn’t really benefit us. But, generally speaking, I have to trust my instincts and see what’s best for each situation.
Well, friends, that wraps up my thoughts on this topic. I hope you enjoyed it, and I invite all of you who are reading this to join in. Thank you for sticking with me this far and supporting my content. See you next time!
