The Fair Of The Stuffed Cabbage Festival

Today I invite you to join me and see the market I visited in September, five weeks ago, that was organized as a joint event with the stuffed cabbage festival.

Whenever there's a festival, there's a fair too, which is a very good occasion for local artisans to display their products and also make some money, as well as for visitors to buy some souvenirs.

These fairs are a lot of fun, but not harmless though, if you can't control your urge to buy something (or many things), you end up burning a hole in your pocket. Anyway, let's see what they had to offer visitors.

Kürtőskalács, or horn cake, or chimney cake is a traditional food and a must at every fair. The problem is the price as 30 RON is one of the highest and the reason why you don't see any buyers. Those spiraled fried potatoes are not as old as the traditional kürtőskalács, but are just as expensive as the kürtőskalács. 10 RON for a fried potato, that you can buy for a few pennies raw is a ripoff.

These vendors made a bit more effort, at the same and higher price, but not many were interested in buying.

Artisan cheese always works as a magnet, till you see the price tag. However, every once in awhile, it's ok to test a new one. I didn't buy any though.

This was where the fun began, but only for the eye and the lens of my camera. These sweets looked good, but not healthy at all, so it's better if we move on.

And this was where the fun began for the eye, the lens and the for taste buds, but not mine. I live artisan chocolate and would have bought the whole table, but ... well, yes, there's always a but. I'd rather make my own one day.

They had sugar free, gluten free chocolate and with sugar as well. The price? Better not ask.

More sweets, more colorants and chemicals :)

I love these artisan brandies, but just to look at them as I rarely drink alcohol and when I do, I go for something lighter. These are too strong, but look good and a good present for someone who can appreciate them.

This was where I needed all my willpower, to take a shot and move on. Those mugs were calling my name, but honestly, to buy one more and have 15, and pay 3 times where a normal mug costs ... naah. But loved them a lot.

Wooden items and toys are very popular again and parents who can afford them are making the right choice. Durability, health are just two reasons why you should choose them. Imagine these can be passed down to generations, not like the plastic ones, that break the next day. These can be fixed as well, in case some kids are more inventive and have more energy than planned.

Cuteness at the highest level, what can I say? How can you not love such cutie pies?

They had a lot of amazing candles with traditional, Hungarian motifs and sayings. I love the look, but am not exactly a candle person.

Mugs and bottles with lovely designs, vases as well, but again, do I need them, or just want them? The truth is, I'd want many things and this is the case at every fair, but when I know I'm going to use them only occasionally and not worth the money, or don't have the space for them, helps me decide.

Now let's see what you like from here. Let me know in a comment :)

Honestly, it can't be easy to resist buying if you have money, of course. It's a beautiful fair full of colors, food, crafts, and well, that stuffed cabbage must be very tasty. A great

At that fair there were many items for sale, people who make those crafts with their hands and prepare those delicious foods; you have to be willing to pay what they ask, and another thing is that the healthfulness of the food may be at risk.

Honestly, nothing beats a good food stall photo. Seeing all that fresh food made me hungry instantly! Super cool shot.

Hi dear friend Erikah, ☺️ What a great virtual tour of the fair! I completely understand the struggle with the artisan chocolate, I would have wanted to buy the whole table too! I also really loved your point about wooden toys. It's so true that they carry a special kind of soul and durability that plastic just can't match. Which stall was the hardest one for you to walk away from? 🍫🧸

Handmade items usually carry a part of the local culture and identity of their makers. Wooden toys and mugs with traditional designs caught my attention the most. And I totally understand what you mean when you say that in such markets one wants to buy everything. Sometimes it is hard to resist this temptation, even when we know that we really don’t need anything, like in big stores where we don’t leave empty-handed when we enter. Of course, in many countries these markets have become more about selling things that are produced in factories and only have traditional designs and are not handmade. Thank you for sharing this market, especially since everything was colorful. I love color too 🤣🟨🟡🎨

Ah, those sweets look delicious—they make me want to eat them. There were such lovely things there!

  • Beautiful photos and a wonderful fair walkthrough! Thanks for sharing this nice experience.
