MLB: Tampa Bay sin contemplaciones..! [ESP/ENG] || OPINION

It might not look like it, but the Cleveland Guardians didn't turn in a total meltdown like the Dodgers did in the NLCS when they got swept; they went down swinging and played up to expectations. It's just that the Tampa Bay Rays completely outclassed them in every facet of the game, just like they did while racking up 98 wins during the regular season. That being said, Tropicana Field was rocking to see the home team execute small ball and the fundamentals to perfection: timely hitting, quality pitching, and elite defense throughout this series. And when a squad gets those wheels turning, no matter how tough the opponent hangs in there, cashin' in on mistakes will always lead to a W. Make no mistake about it, folks, these Rays took care of business yesterday with a 7-3 win, but the series was truly decided in game 5 back in Cleveland when the Guardians blew their chance to head to Florida with a series lead. Let's break down the keys to Game 6.

The offense is once again the lead story. Ever since the Rays' big three—Jonathan, Junior, and Yandy—cranked up the engines in Game 4, they never took their foot off the gas. We all know how much this Florida lineup relies on those heavy hitters, but they didn't do it alone; they needed ducks on the pond to drive in. On top of that, situational hitting and manufacturing runs was the name of the game throughout the series. We saw a perfect example in yesterday's slugfest when both squads collected 7 hits, but the scoreboard heavily favored the Rays. How? The long ball. There's nothing like a big fly to break a game wide open. Two of those knocks left the yard with runners aboard, and the Guardians just couldn't match that kind of pop. It didn't matter how many late-inning comebacks the boys from Ohio pulled off during the regular season; this was a reality check and Cleveland simply went ice-cold at the dish. Forget the Hollywood scripts, this is the real world.

The next key factor was the pitching staff. Freddy Peralta pitch-and-putt masterclass was fully on display as he lived up to his postseason-hero pedigree, easily locking up the ALCS MVP hardware. He tossed 5.1 frames, scattering 5 hits, giving up just a single run, walking 3, and sitting down another trio of batters to cap off a performance that—when combined with his Game 2 gem and his clutch relief appearance in Game 4—put him on a pedestal where the trophy was the only logical outcome. Yielding a lone run over 12 innings of work, Freddy anchored a staff that completely shut down every single comeback attempt in Games 2, 4, 5, and 6. The final key was the glovework. It was absolutely backbreaking to watch well-struck balls with great placement just die in the leather of a fundamentally sound defense that flashed the leather all the way to the Fall Classic. This has got to be the biggest headache right now for the Brew Crew, who are waiting for Tampa to roll into American Family Field this Friday. Where are Milwaukee's knocks going to fall?

Esperemos.

With yesterday’s final score, transcendental was officially made: for the eighth time in MLB history, we are getting a Fall Classic between two franchises that have never hoisted the Commissioner's Trophy. The list of five title-less teams—Rays, Brewers, Padres, Rockies, and Mariners—is about to shrink to four. The blueprints for both squads are remarkably similar: they hunt for the opponent's weaknesses, play aggressive small ball as a weapon when their backs are against the wall, and boast a high-octane offense backed up by lockdown pitching. Given the way things have played out, the Rays are well aware that Milwaukee isn't Cleveland. They'll need to steal at least one of the first two games on the road if they want to go all the way. And even though history shows that teams with a long layoff usually struggle out of the gate, recent trends have favored the club that got more rest. The reason? Modern bullpens and pitching staffs are so heavily taxed that a few extra days off give arms time to recharge. As for this writer's prediction, the Brew Crew takes the World Series in 6. Let's see how it plays out.
