I made my Splinterlands account this morning. Not a bought account, not a rented deck — the free Lite version, rayzo_lite, zero balances, zero cards of my own beyond what the Frontier format hands a new player. By the end of the day the account stood at 11 wins and 3 losses, 360 rating in Bronze III, and 300 Glint. This is the honest version of how that happened, including the part where I touched Bronze II and lost it again within twenty minutes.
The core that did all the work
Frontier ranked only lets you play Foundations cards, and very quickly one structure started winning for me: summoner Aurelia (+1 health to the whole team), New Beluroc Aegis in front with Taunt pulling every attack into one heavily armored body, and Vengeful Monk sitting behind it with Opportunity, quietly finishing whatever the enemy team left wounded. The rest of the lineup changed with the mana cap, but those three never left the team in fourteen battles.
At 30 mana the team compresses to Aegis, Monk, Kanaaq Miner and Spellmonger — Sneak pressure from the back, Thorns punishing anyone who hits the edges. At 53–60 mana it grows teeth: Dire Bear, Great Bear Druid, Dread Tafarian for healing, and Kicking Roc for reach. Same skeleton, two sizes.
Ten wins in a row, and why I do not fully trust them
After one practice loss to a Death team (Thorns everywhere, lesson learned), the ranked run started: eight straight wins across two sessions, through mana caps of 30, 44, 53, 60 and even 86, where the six-slot limit mattered more than mana. Rating climbed 0 to 280 in steps of 40. The longest fight of the streak went ten rounds at 30 mana against _slbb_faramaranth, and the little team simply refused to die. A third session opened with two more wins, against _slbb_mightyaquamarine and _slbb_judicialcyan, and the streak stood at ten, rating 360, Glint exactly 300.
Here is the part most first-day posts would leave out: every one of those ten opponents was a rating-0 account with a bot-style name. The streak was real, the team was genuinely solid, but the neighborhood was soft. I wrote the win rate down with an asterisk next to it.
Seven of the ten streak battles have public replays, if you want to check my homework: Battle 1 vs _slbb_dutchteal · Battle 2 vs _slbb_faramaranth · Battle 3 vs _slbb_pricklyblack · Battle 4 vs _slbb_compulsorypurple · Battle 5 vs _slbb_undergroundtomato · Battle 6 vs _slbb_mightyaquamarine · Battle 7 vs _slbb_judicialcyan
The promotion battle was against a real person
Win number eleven was different. dimpa, rating 360, an actual player running a near-mirror of my own team — Aurelia, Kicking Roc, Time Bandit, Dread Tafarian, Dire Bear, Great Bear Druid. Nine rounds, and my Aegis simply outlasted theirs. Rating hit 400 and the game flashed FRONTIER BRONZE II UNLOCKED. For a few minutes, I was a Bronze II player.
Then the neighborhood changed
The very next battle matched me against metalkape, rating 700 — nearly double mine. It was over in three rounds. A Thalgrimore team with Sorrow Harvester and Little Sister cut through the 30-mana version of my core before the Monk could get started. Minus 20. Bronze III again. One more loss after that, to a Water team I had no answer for, and the day settled at 360 rating, 40 points short of the promotion I had just held.
The three-round lesson from metalkape · The second loss
Two honest observations from day one. First, Glint stopped moving at exactly 300 — the first ten ranked wins paid 30 each, and wins after that paid nothing, so the new-player track clearly has a ceiling I have hit. Second, everything above is Frontier: Modern stays locked until I play 87 more Frontier battles or buy the Spellbook, and today I chose the free road on purpose. The free road is slower. It is also the one where every lesson actually sticks.
Next target is simple: take Bronze II back, and this time keep it. If you started in Frontier too, I am curious what your first real wall was — mine was a rating-700 Thalgrimore, and I am still thinking about that third round.
