Hello, dear friends of this wonderful community; I hope you are all doing well. Today, I want to share an art project I created featuring Walter White and Jesse Pinkman—the protagonists of Breaking Bad, arguably the greatest TV series ever made. That may be a highly subjective opinion, but I have plenty of reasons to feel that way, and I know many people around the world share this view. The art style is quite simple: it involves using cardboard, painting a silhouette onto it, and then making cuts to achieve a "pop art" look—though I personally use only white paint. In this post, I’ll show you how to do it easily so you can create a portrait of your own favorite idol. Let’s get started!
Hola queridos amigos de esta maravillosa comunidad, espero que todos se encuentren muy bien. Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes un trabajo artístico que hice de los personajes Walter White y Jessi Pinkman, protagonistas de la serie Breaking Bad, posiblemente la mejor serie de TV que se haya realizado. Tal vez sea una opinión muy subjetiva, pero tengo razones de sobra para pensarlo y se que muchas personas alrededor del mundo también piensan lo mismo. Este estilo de arte es muy sencillo, se trata de utilizar el cartón y pintar sobre el la silueta, para luego hacer unos cortes que permitan un estilo pop art aunque yo solo utilizo pintura de color blanco. Aquí en esta publicación te muestro como hacerlo de una manera sencilla y así puedes hacer el retrato de ídolo favorito. Comencemos!

To create this artwork, you need to use cardboard that is in good condition; I used a Smart TV box, as these are rigid and sturdy to protect the appliances. Draw the face silhouettes in a stencil style using a pencil; if you don't know how to draw, it doesn't matter, as you can use a printed template to trace the outlines onto the cardboard.
Para hacer este trabajo de arte se debe utilizar un cartón que esté en buen estado, yo utilicé una caja de carton de smart tv, las cuales son duras y resistentes para proteger los aparatos. Se dibuja con un lápiz las siluetas de los rostros en estilo stencil, si no sabes dibujar no importa, porque puede utilizar una plantilla impresa, para así marcar el cartón con el lápiz.

In the next step, once the figures are fully drawn, we need to use a utility knife; any type will do, though a standard stationery craft knife is preferable, as it is safe to handle with care. Next, proceed to cut along the drawn lines, ensuring the entire figure is cut out; to do this, follow the outline while pressing the blade down, but without cutting all the way through the cardboard—the goal is to cut only the top layer.
En el paso siguiente, una vez las figuras estén completamente dibujadas, debemos utilizar un cúter, puede ser cualquier tipo pero es preferible utilizar uno de papelería el cual si se maneja con cuidado no hace daño. Entonces se procede a cortar el trazo que se dibujó, pero debemos cortar toda la figura que se haya dibujado, para eso seguimos el trazo hundiendo la hoja de la navaja pero sin atravesar todo el cartón, nuestro interés es cortar la primera capa solamente.

I followed a specific order when cutting the silhouettes, starting with Jesse Pinkman. To remove the cardboard I had previously cut, I use a pointed hook—though a knitting needle would work just as well. I pry open the cardboard and gradually lift it away; as you can see in the image, the top layer peels off, revealing the underlying section with its raised, textured lines. These lines will add contrast and depth to the portrait.
Aquí el orden que he seguido para cortar las silueta fue comenzando con Jesse Pinkman, así que para retirar el cartón que ya he cortado previamente, utilizo un gancho puntiagudo, se puede usar una aguja de tejer también. Abrimos el cartón y poco a poco lo vamos levantando, como se puede observar en la imagen, la primera capa del cartón se va despegando y deja al descubierto la parte del cartón que tiene líneas de relieve. Esas líneas le dará contraste y profundidad al retrato.

Next up is Walter White, and just as I did with Jesse, I’ve used the craft knife to cut through all the cardboard that needs to be removed. I’m gradually taking the cardboard away, and you can see his facial features taking shape. A first look at both silhouettes shows us how they turn out!
Seguidamente le toca el turno a Walter White, y al igual que hice con Jesse, con la navaja he cortado todo el cartón que se va a retirar. Poco a poco voy retirando el cartón y pueden observar como la figura de su rostro va tomando forma. Una primera mirada a ambas siluetas nos muestra como luce!

Now comes the final step; as you can see, the process is easy to carry out—it just requires patience and concentration. The last step is to apply paint to the part of the silhouette that remained on the cardboard. We add the paint with a brush, and we can see how the contrast changes and the portraits begin to look better. We repeat this process with both silhouettes until the design is complete.
Ahora viene el paso final, como pueden observar el proceso es fácil de aplicar, solo se necesita paciencia y concentración, el último paso es aplicar pintura a la parte de la silueta que no se quitó del cartón. Con un pincel vamos agregando la pintura y podemos ver como el contraste es diferente y los retratos van luciendo mejores. Así hacemos con ambas siluetas hasta quedar finalizado nuestro diseño.
FINAL WORK
Here is how the portrait of these fascinating characters turned out. What do you think of the result? I used "cold paint" (acrylic craft paint); it works very well on wood, cardboard, or ceramics, dries quickly, and requires no preparation—all you need is a brush and a piece of art. It is worth noting that Breaking Bad features some of the best storytelling ever written and truly memorable characters—such as the lawyer Saul Goodman, who was so compelling he got his own spin-off series, Better Call Saul. Así es como ha quedado el retrato de estos fascinantes personajes.¿Que les ha parecido el resultado? La pintura que utilicé es pintura al frio, es muy buena para pintar madera, cartón o cerámica, es de facil secado y no necesita prepararse para aplicar, solo necesita un pincel y una obra de arte. Cabe destacar que Breaking Bad tiene de las mejores historias jamás escritas y personajes memorables, como por ejemplo el abogado Saul Godman, tan bueno que tuvo su propia serie Spin-off, "Better Call Saul" así que si nunca la has visto mi recomendación es que lo hagas. Por ahora me despido hasta una nueva oportunidad.
