Yesterday morning I got the boys to school then a bit later pulled some of the last cumbers out of the greenhouse. The peppers are still going strong and the paste tomatoes but the cucs are looking rather peeked.
Some nice Italian plums ripened on the trees so I picked some to take in the house.
I spent time during the day trying to do cleanup around the property. I worked on the barn/coop and cleaned up the boxes, bags, etc. The remnants of the bird feed got bagged and binned and I started a pile for the dump run eventually.
I was down by the creek and watched a group of birds attacking the chokecherry bushes. They grabbed a chokecherry in their beaks and stripped the flesh before cracking open the seed inside.
They were flitting from branch to branch with very red beaks. Fitting for the season it had a slight horror movie look to them. Dripping dark red flesh on their beaks...
The apple tree by the creek/road is just about fully ripe. I picked an apple to eat and it was good but not yet fully ripe and sweet. I probably should pick them soon though anyway.
Sharpened chains for the saws, both the Dewalt and the Stihl. Figured out on the Stihl chains I have to remove a lot more with the sharpening than I had been to get the teeth to be without pits. I will test it out today and see how much better my sharpening job was than prior times.
The conex was near impossible to close the door latch on due to the rust and metal on metal. So I grabbed the grease gun with moly in it and applied it to both the top and bottom latches which made it SO SMOOTH and so much easier to close. The moly will have a much better chance of staying over winter.
I put a roast in the oven for dinner and it took near 2 hours to finish, just in time for dinner.
This morning I get the boys to school, go to my session, run the chainsaws, clean up more around the property, dentist appt early afternoon, then this afternoon J has a xc meet.
