Headed to Chewelah yesterday morning to meet up with the club to go fly Eagle Mountain. We drove to the lz where we left 4 of the rigs and headed up in the 2 trucks.
Got to the launch and the winds were already perfect.
We went and did some cleaning up of a new launch site and made a sort of trail back to the parking area.
Chris was the first to fly and Kim went right after.
Then it was my turn to fly. I got a solid launch and then had a pretty much sled ride down to the lz. I was super comfortable in the air and thanks to the SIV had no nerves. Made a perfect landing right by the car.
It took a while for Steve and Joe to take off with their hang gliders but eventually they did.
Since both of their rigs were on top of the mountain had to go up and get them. Turned out Neal was driving Steve's truck and got a flat tire at the summit of the road up. So I tossed my wing in the truck and we headed up to help change it. I didn't need to help as there were enough people working on it so I hiked back to the launch and setup for my next flight.
I muffed the first launch attempt so had to reflake my wing. Once Kim flipped my leading edge up I was able to quickly take off. The flight was great and I got some laps across the ridge where I was able to maintain altitude for a bit before heading to the lz. I flew along the higher hills which brought me in much higher by the lz so I wandered a bit before landing. There were turkeys running across the lz as I came in and scared a portion of them. Landing was within 10 feet of my first flight and even closer to the car.
We then packed up and after a stop for beer at the Safeway headed to Joe's place at Loon Lake for a potluck dinner. I brought tomatoes and cucumbers from the garden and cut some of each up before heading to the lake for a minute.
Ate, talked, drank, and hung out until it was dark.
Joe's 1942 trailer that is part of the setup is SUPER cool and very retro. Nicely it was only a 20ish minute drive home.
PDC world series finals on this morning, Utd play and will likely lose, have house work today, then we will probably go on a family bike ride and likely pickup R's sweatshirt he left at the triathlon last weekend.
