Hello film lovers, /Bonjour les cinéphiles,
This American comedy-drama, which runs for 1 hour 55 minutes, is available on Netflix.
This film came out 20 years ago, but I’d never watched it before.
Synopsis :
Tom Dobbs is a comedian who hosts a late-night talk show. He is very successful, and one night, someone in the audience asks him if he has ever thought about running for president.
Why not?!
He launches his campaign and takes part in debates, making his audience laugh even when facing his opponents. He takes over the stage, goes over his allotted speaking time, and becomes increasingly out of control as he desperately tries to rally the public to his cause. He is neither Republican nor Democrat — he is for the people, with the people.
An employee at the computer company responsible for the voting machines notices a bug that is distorting the results. She reports it to her superiors, but they either don't listen to her... or don't want to.
The election results come in and are officially announced, but according to the employee, the bug is still there and the results are wrong.
Should she speak up? Who should she tell?
My opinion and a few facts /Mon avis et petites infos :
I didn’t like this film, but the US elections aren’t my favourite subject either.
The film is directed by Barry Levinson (Good Morning Vietnam, Rain Man, Bugsy, The Insider, Sleepers, etc.). The humour is similar to that in Good Morning Vietnam; Robin Williams pulls faces and makes ‘silly’ jokes, which aren’t really to my taste.
The cast features some fine actors:
Robin Williams: Tom Dobbs Christopher Walken: Jack Menken Laura Linney: Eleanor Green Lewis Black: Eddie Langston Jeff Goldblum: Alan Stewart David Alpay: Danny Faith Daniels: the presenter Tina Fey: Herself Amy Poehler: Herself Karen Hines: Alison McAndrews David Nichols: President Kellogg David Ferry: Senator Mills Linda Kash: Jenny Adams Rick Roberts: Hemmings Chris Matthews: the news presenter Dmitry Chepovetsky: Eckhart Sasha Roiz: Donald Tilson
Naturally, the actors were 20 years younger than they are now. As we know, Robin Williams sadly passed away on 11 August 2014.
Did you enjoy this film? Do you like this sort of humour?
Have a lovely evening in front of the telly, everyone, and see you soon,
Au casting, de bons acteurs :
