I didn’t go for my usual walk around the garden this morning because the weather already felt very warm. I thought it would be better to stay inside and wait until later in the day. However, after spending several hours at home, boredom eventually gave me enough motivation to step outside.
It was already late afternoon when I decided to visit the garden. The temperature was still warm, but at least the sunlight was beginning to change. Instead of the harsh brightness of midday, the light was passing through the surrounding plants and creating interesting patches of highlights and shadows.
That immediately caught my attention.
I walked around with my camera and focused mostly on the leaves. Some were smooth, while others had visible marks, patterns, and small imperfections. Once converted into black and white, those little details became even more noticeable. The strong shadows also helped separate the shapes of the leaves from the darker background.
For these photos, I mostly played with light and shadow to create the kind of contrast that I enjoy. I like how a simple leaf can suddenly become dramatic when only a portion of it is touched by sunlight.
This short afternoon walk also reminded me that sometimes we don’t need to force ourselves to be creative at a particular time. I skipped my morning photography, yet I still found another opportunity later in the day. Different hours bring different kinds of light, and sometimes changing our routine gives us something new to see.
In the end, I’m glad boredom pushed me outside today.
