Hola mis amigos creativos en hive! Espero se encuentren muy bien, el día de hoy les traigo el proceso de pintura que fue un encargo para el regalo de una amiga. A pesar de que inicialmente este dibujo era solo para mi recordé que pronto es el cumpleaños de una amiga muy querida que conocí gracias a la universidad y quien me hizo escuchar más la música de Sleep Token así que decidí terminarlo para poder entregárselo como regalo. También este fue el primer dibujo cargado que hice usando solo marcadores acrílicos, los cuales se han convertido en uno de mis materiales de dibujo en tradicional favoritos, por su facil aplicación y por el resultado que dejan ya que terminan pareciendo que fuera pintura. Hello, my creative friends on Hive! I hope you’re all doing great. Today I’m sharing the painting process for a commission I did as a gift for a friend. Although this drawing was originally just for myself, I remembered that a very dear friend—whom I met in college and who introduced me to Sleep Token’s music—has a birthday coming up soon, so I decided to finish it to give it to her as a gift. This was also the first drawing I uploaded that I did using only acrylic markers, which have become one of my favorite traditional drawing materials because they’re easy to use and produce a result that looks just like paint. Materiales/Materials
- Lo que utilicé para realizar esta pintura en tradicional fue una hoja blanca, un lápiz,, un borrador moldeable, marcadores acrílicos, un marcador permanente negro y un corrector líquido blanco.
To create this traditional painting, I used a white sheet of paper, a pencil, a kneaded eraser, acrylic markers, a black permanent marker, and white liquid correction pen.
✨Paso a paso/ Step by Step✨
Comencé realizando el boceto en la hoja, algo que caracteriza a esta banda es el uso de las máscaras y la tremenda puesta en escena que dan en sus conciertos, todo el concepto de la banda es muy llamativo, misterioso e increíble y fue ello lo que me impulsó a realizar un dibujo del vocalista principal. Luego de tener el boceto listo borre todas las líneas para evitar que el grafito se mezclará con el marcador. Al tenerlo listo comencé aplicando los marcadores acrílicos, en este caso, el dibujo fue muy satisfactorio de realizar por la paleta de colores que contiene la imagen que usé de referencia y fue muy divertido el proceso de ir mezclando los marcadores para obtener los tonos, en este caso, predominan los rosados y morados, en las zonas más oscuras es que aparecen los azules pero en general toda la atmósfera de la composición es con tonos cálidos y fríos al mismo tiempo. Otro dato que me encanta de esta banda es que las máscaras que usa el cantante principal tienen seis ojos haciendo alusión a una araña, asimismo su vestimenta también tiene algunos elementos de los arácnidos.
I started by sketching on the sheet of paper. One of the defining characteristics of this band is their use of masks and the incredible stage presence they bring to their concerts; the band’s entire concept is very eye-catching, mysterious, and amazing, and that’s what inspired me to draw the lead singer. After finishing the sketch, I erased all the lines to prevent the graphite from mixing with the marker. Once that was done, I began applying the acrylic markers. In this case, the drawing was very satisfying to create thanks to the color palette in the reference image I used, and it was a lot of fun to mix the markers to achieve the right shades. In this case, pinks and purples predominate; blues appear in the darker areas, but overall, the entire atmosphere of the composition features both warm and cool tones at the same time. Another thing I love about this band is that the masks worn by the lead singer have six eyes, alluding to a spider, and his outfit also features some arachnid elements.
Continúe pintando la máscara y parte de su vestimenta intercalando el marcador permanente negro con los marcadores acrílicos, la particularidad de estos marcadores es que puedes usarlo para colocarlo encima de otro color, por ejemplo, si se realiza un circulo negro los marcadores que sean de colores son capaces de verse por encima del color negro. En este caso se puede apreciar en los detalles de la máscara cerca de la boca y los dientes, así como también en el cuello y el mentón. Estos marcadores tienen la particularidad de que o los usas para construir tramados y que se vean las texturas o puede usar un pincel o tu dedo para difuminarlos y que se mezclen entre ellos, aquí utilice ambos métodos para tanto generar textura como para mezclar los tonos.
Continue painting the mask and part of the costume by alternating between the black permanent marker and the acrylic markers. What makes these markers unique is that you can use them to paint over another color; for example, if you draw a black circle, the colored markers will show through the black. In this case, you can see this in the details of the mask near the mouth and teeth, as well as on the neck and chin. These markers are unique in that you can either use them to create patterns that show texture, or you can use a brush or your finger to blend them so they mix together. Here, I used both methods to create texture and blend the shades.
Este es el resultado del dibujo, para terminar el dibujo continúe trabajando su túnica mezclando los tonos que use para la piel ya que estos son los que definen la iluminación del momento, construí el fondo mezclando diferentes tonos de morado y azul y así crear una atmósfera etérea dentro del dibujo, hice los detalles de su traje, micrófono y accesorios todo con los marcadores acrílicos y construyendo poco a poco cada una de las piezas en la imagen. Este dibujo me encantó hacerlo porque no sólo disfrute usar el material sino que también pude disfrutar de su música mientras lo realizaba, es un dibujo que fue bastante pesado y cargado debido al nivel de detalle pero como yo no soy fanática de el hiperrealismo trato siempre de que la imagen no quede tan perfecta o pulida, prefiero ver detalles raros y formas extrañas antes que ver la exactitud de lo que se está retratando. A mi amiga le encantó y no sólo se lo entregue, ya que tenía miedo de que pudiera maltratarse la hoja sino que le prepare el dibujo y lo coloque en un soporte de cartón forrado con cartulina negra, así el dibujo puede tener un tiempo de vida más largo y este puede colocarse en cualquier sitio ya que este soporte se asemeja a un lienzo. Ame toda la paleta de colores para este dibujo y fue un disfrute de inicio a fin realizarlo.
This is the result of the drawing. To finish it, continue working on his tunic by blending the shades you used for the skin, since these are what define the lighting in this moment. I built up the background by mixing different shades of purple and blue to create an ethereal atmosphere within the drawing. I added the details of her outfit, microphone, and accessories—all using acrylic markers—and gradually built up each element in the image. I loved creating this drawing because not only did I enjoy using the materials, but I was also able to enjoy her music while working on it. It’s a drawing that turned out quite dense and detailed due to the level of detail, but since I’m not a fan of hyperrealism, I always try to ensure the image doesn’t look too perfect or polished; I prefer to see quirky details and unusual shapes rather than the exact accuracy of what’s being portrayed. My friend loved it, and I didn’t just hand it to her—since I was afraid the paper might get damaged—I framed the drawing on a cardboard backing lined with black cardstock, so the drawing can last longer and be displayed anywhere, since this backing resembles a canvas. I loved the entire color palette for this drawing, and it was a joy to create from start to finish.
