You all will have to forgive me but the light was so very glorious on Wednesday I went a little crazy with photos. So brace for a long post.
On Wednesday I was up at 5:45AM after a poor night’s sleep. I have to use a CPAP machine and my full face mask has taken to snoring. That’s right; it’s not me, but the mask. At some point in each breath the seal fails and it flutters making a snoring noise. I’ve changed out a new one and tightened the straps, but there it is…

I worked on my photos and got as far as starting the post when I had to stop and get ready for my #2 intern at 8AM. I’d gotten a load in the dishwasher and was cleaning up the kitchen when she got here. But I wasn’t ready for the day.
I decided to put away all the freezer containers. This involves a lot of sorting and putting like types of boxes and covers all together in the boxes. I’ve collected so many different kinds from tag sales, etc that it’s far easier to match them if they are sorted beforehand.
Once that was done she went out to get totes and pails and cutters while I got dressed for the day.
We got the harvest inside and I cleaned the squashes and she laid them out to cure in the office.
Once that was done, we got big bowls and went out to harvest peas. I had hoped the sugar pods had made big peas as I don’t have a lot of peas, but I do have a lot of pods.
We pick everything so it will encourage more production. We got a decent amount and once inside, we shelled them and she washed them up and I got set up to blanche for the freezer. She headed out and I finished the peas.
Once that was done, I sat down for a long time then got up to get some photos. We’d had a lovely warm sunny day in the low 70’s.
Between picking the peas and the butternut harvest, I’d gotten photos of the mown pastures.
The driveway was pretty spectacular in the morning and afternoon light.
It looked so very like autumn with the leaves on the driveway.
Because we’d been working in the Big garden, I walked around it to show what it looked like after the first frost.
In front of the house, the mums had finally come into their own and there was nice color. They are mostly small, but they survived the winter and flowered.
My #2 intern took these photos of the heavy dew on the pea vines as we were picking.
I went over to the small garden to see how the parsnips were doing. I won’t harvest them until we have a real hard frost. That way I hope they will sweeten up before harvest. But it’s a chancy thing, because the critters might chew on them before or just after that…
On the back side of the house (north) the lavender is still hanging in there. I’m not a fan of the smell of lavender, but I have to admire the tenacity of this particular plant. It’s in a wind tunnel on the north side of the house and has survived 2 seasons.

I spent a couple hours in the evening editing these photos before heading to bed at 8PM. I had to pull the shades as it was to drop into the upper 40’s.
On Thursday I need to clean up the kitchen, finally get laundry started, pay some bills, and get started sorting freezers. My #4 helper arrives at 1:30PM and she will help with this.
