Tree color in the ditch on the back 40
On Saturday morning I was awakened by a crash (never found out what) at 4AM. So I laid in bed for another hour and made a list. (This one wasn’t lost…) I got up at 5AM and got my post up. Then I had breakfast and got ready.
I had been looking at the few tag sale listings that came in and one was here in town, billed community wide. So when my #2 intern got here we headed out to it. I was glad we went as I got a lot of stuff! And the prices were great.
The haul: 3 flannel shirts, 4 winter work shirts, 2 storage containers for the workshop, the speed square, a thistle feeder, and a tiny canning pot. Total: $18.
We were home by 10AM and went to work in the cellar. We had a LOT of stuff to move. My #1 intern arrived and she got busy building the last shelf.
My #2 intern had brought moving equipment from her house and Tom had found the straps I needed for moving the freezers from the barn and down the bulkhead.
We had gone to the barn to check the thermometers. The freezer that might be iffy was reading 8F so I turned it down more. The other freezer was fine, at 0F.
Then we went into the cellars and started moving stuff from the 1st addition to the old cellar. We managed to pack it all in! We even moved the file cabinet.
Once everything was out of the way we took the template and ran it through the cellar. We had to take off the door into the new addition and then there was enough room.
The next thing was to run it in the bulkhead. I knew one door came off as the contractor had repaired it last year. So we got that one off and then tried the other one. It also came right off. The template showed we can get the freezers in with minimal tilting by using the straps along the bulkhead sides and 2 people easing the freezer under the overhang.
Next was to get the tailgate off the truck. We figured that out and then we were ready. My brother said he’d put a new starter in the truck, so I hope he did. It’s not been starting well lately.
I made some lunch and headed to bed for a nap at 2PM. I just dozed off and on and got up at 4PM. I sat for a while with help then made supper and watched a movie.
Sitting together in the late afternoon sun
I pulled shades at 6PM as it’s to be low 40’sF during the night. I was in bed just after 8:30PM.
On Sunday lots of people are to arrive at 8AM and I have a lot to do before they get here. I plan to start inventorying one of the freezers before they arrive and put the stuff in the coolers. I forgot to get the screws out to hold the new shelf boards to the bracket and I don’t think my #1 intern did that. So I have to get 6 screws in that. I’ve got to clean up the kitchen and get a shower. And I’m sure there’s lots else to do before they arrive.
The rain is due to start at 1PM so I hope the truck cooperates and the freezers are in the cellar by midmorning…
My son is supposed to bring in wood for the stoves as it’s to rain off and on through Tuesday so I will have to light them for the first time.
Another very long day…
