I wasn’t crazy about the poster this year, so I didn’t get the T shirt.
On Sunday morning, I was up just before 6AM and spent a leisurely morning getting my post up. It rained heavily off and on all morning then really set in around 10AM.
My older brother was driving up from Connecticut and said he could only go about 40 mph on the highway the rain was so heavy.
My youngest brother finally got up around 10:30AM and we got ready to go out for breakfast. That was a leisurely affair and we finally headed out sometime after 1PM. We came back to my house so my brother could drop off his car and then headed north. We took the back roads as they are quite nice this time of year and we were in no hurry to do the fair in the rain.
There weren’t any attractions in particular that we wanted to see. It was still drizzling when we got there so we went through the buildings first.
They weren’t as good as last year and I was disappointed to not recognize any of the names of the exhibitors for the children or the adults. One exception was my friend’s daughter. My brother knew the woman who made the center quilt (above).
I forgot to get a photo of the dinner display I liked. It had my china pattern as part of it, Memory Lane.
It had stopped raining by the time we finished the Roundhouse and after checking that there were no more of last year’s T shirts, we headed to the Poultry Barn.
The last couple years have had no birds at all due to Avian flu. I’m not sure what changed but there were ducks and chickens again this year.
We walked through the cattle barns looking for the entries from the farm where my youngest brother works.
The guys watched the cattle classes and I watched the Best of Show class for sheep.
Then we went into the museum. They change out parts of it each year and it cool to see the new stuff. Both of these photos are old standbys.
From there, we went to check out a new food stand and were dismayed to discover it had been sold and didn’t have our favorites any more. My youngest brother wanted the beef stew, so he and my other brother got that and I went looking for my favorite: onion rings.
Many of the midway spaces were empty, probably due to it being late on the last day and having rained. And there was no onion rings to be found.
But I had seen a new stand that offered lots of different pies so I got pumpkin and headed back to where my brothers were. I ended up getting mac and cheese from that stand too.
The operator was drying off the seats to the Ferris wheel when we finished so we got our tickets and my younger brother and I went on it. He got a really good video on his phone, but I struggled to get photos on my old camera. It’s VERY slow now.
From there we wandered over to the infield and found the new pavilion that had been built this year. Inside we found a stagecoach.
There’s a campaign to get it restored as it was a big part of transportation in the 1800’s.
As there hadn’t been much we had wanted to see this year, we headed to the car and took the back roads home. The small restaurant in my town offers onion rings so we stopped to get me some, and some soup for my brother.
Once home, I had a LOT of apples to pick up as the rain had knocked them off. Then I just sat and watched videos until 7:45PM when I got the house set and went to bed.
On Monday it’s to be a gorgeous day but I have an appointment mid morning. I don’t know if I will have the energy to finish the Small garden when I get back as it will be after noontime. I have to do laundry also.
