One great benefit of being seriously ill for a week

Short story: There aren't very many benefits at all. It has been a truly horrible journey and even though I am mostly out of the woods completely now and off all of the meds that I was taking before I am still keeping them in reserve in case this things decides it isn't done with me yet and pops back out.

It was 6 days of the first two being absolutely agony with the fever and completely absence of appetite. I would order just drinks and then really struggle to get them down.

Like I mentioned before I never felt nauseous and I never felt the "poo poo splatter" either. My body wasn't trying to expel whatever I put in it, it just didn't want any new things introduced. I felt like I had a lump in my guts that didn't want any food but I forced certain food smoothies and even things I never have like ice cream into my system just so SOMETHING would be there. I also gulped down electrolytes because water started to taste awful. I managed to stay hydrated and they say that is a very important thing and I believe them. When you have a fever your body is burning up water a lot faster than it normally would after all.

I wouldn't say that I am truly done just yet, but I can see the finish line from where I am right now and having these 6 horrible days behind me now, I can say that there are actually a couple of benefits to getting as sick as I did and actually knowing how to manage it.

I have been trying to lose a bit of weight as of late and a few months ago my target was to get below 82 kg.

It should come as no surprise that the process of eating almost nothing for nearly a week does wonders as far as accomplishing that is concerned.

I'm no fool, I know that as soon as I have my normal routine installed back into my life that this is going to raise back up but now at least I know that I got there and maybe I can play my cards right and stay down there. It's worth a try I guess.

The other upside of this illness is that I have not had any alcohol in the past week and had zero desire to have any. I had zero desire to have anything really, other than sleep. Maybe I can keep this going as well, minus the sleeping for 20 hours a day though, that can't be sustainable.

I don't advice using this method for weight loss, but if it does come your way and you are bedridden for a week like I was, try to focus on the positives. That being said I hope that I am not sick like this again for a very very long time.

get well soon. I hope you could recover fast. eat plenty of vegetables and take vitamins too. take care always :)

  • Best forced diet in the world lol. No one ever likes to get sick so this is the only upside. Happy to hear you are on the mend and will be back gaining weight soon.

  • Sending you some Ecency curation votes!

No, I can't imagine that is a good way to lose weight! My friend had some major issues and was in the hospital for a while. He lost and insane amount of weight, but that definitely isn't the way I would want to do it! I hope you get back to 100% soon!

That's what the consequence if you have something like fever or a serious ill, your weight will go down drastically. I experience this kind of what you experience and to tell you honestly, it was pretty bad, because i felt that I will be gone at that moment because I cannot even walk for a long time and it feels like my head is turning upside down.

Well, getting an illness gives you a fast fitness compared to getting fitness every day because you don't have any appetite on eating the food on the table even if that food was delicious before but when an illness hits you, you don't want to eat it anymore.

That's one way to look at it 😆 And I feel you as I am just starting to get rid of the flu after 6 hard days also. And the worst of it was that my life was quite active in this period with mandatory commute at work while I was feeling like a dead man walking.

You don't need to exercise as intensely now that you've lost weight. I can relate to this because I used to weigh around 65 kg. Then, in July, I suffered from severe acid reflux for two weeks and could only eat rice porridge. Now, I weigh less than 60 kg. It's easy to lose weight when we're sick because we don't feel like eating. But I also realized that there was a positive side of being sick sometimes because I'm back to my desired weight.

So, you actually got two benefits from being sick: you lost weight, and you also gave your body a break from alcohol since you haven't been drinking. Hehe. Of course, we need alcohol to our body but not too much.

I hope you’re feeling much better now! Being seriously ill for a week is definitely not an easy experience, even if you noticed some changes in your weight. Our health is always more important than the number on the scale. Sometimes, we don’t realize how important it is to take care of ourselves until our bodies remind us to slow down and rest. I hope you’re fully recovering now and getting back your strength and energy. Please continue to take good care of yourself. Life is more enjoyable when we are healthy and able to do the things we love. Wishing you good health and happiness always!

Well, sleep is actually another way to curb hungry. Imagine that if you stop eating by 6pm and go to bed before 9, and wake up the next day 7, that's 10 hours of free burning whilst you're asleep.

I'm the end, calories in, calories out. With the long sleeping hours, you don't consume any new calories, you'll start to lose weight.

  • lol. dysentery is a great way to lose weight indeed. Some people manage to lose all of their weight from it.
