Hello, how is everyone in the Music community doing? Today I’m writing to you about a song that is, for me, truly unique: “Orion” by the most legendary band that could ever exist, Metallica. This song is very different from all the others Metallica has, because it is pure guitar sound, full of rhythms, and I love it so much.
I really like it because it starts off with a great drum sound. Then, a powerful guitar rhythm kicks in. I discovered this song a while ago and it’s definitely something different compared to other Metallica tracks where there’s always a voice behind the music. This one offers more than 8 minutes of pure electricity.
The feeling this song conveys to me is a true passion for playing guitar. Let's remember that Cliff Burton was a key piece in creating this masterpiece in the world of rock. Also, James Hetfield's sound and riffs are essential, along with the tempo changes in the middle of the track when the soft section arrives before building up the intensity again.
Lars Ulrich also drives the core of the song with his drumming rhythm. If you watch performance videos of this track, you can see the sheer energy and talent that all members of Metallica pour into Orion.
Cliff Burton, as we know, passed away. This song stands as part of his enduring legacy—a member who contributed immensely to Metallica and to the rock world as a whole.
Now, the title of the song, Orion, makes me think of a galaxy, especially since the track has no lyrics. Anyone can interpret it in their own way, but I also read that its name is tied to the style of the guitar rhythm, the riffs, and everything that makes it an timeless track.
Orion is part of the album Master of Puppets, which was released on March 3, 1986. The bass takes center stage at many moments throughout the song. We can also hear how the song builds up intricately through guitars and drums.
It features many shifts in rhythm and power, which makes it engaging to listen to without feeling repetitive. Metallica has often performed this song in honor of Cliff Burton, and Metallica fans absolutely adore it.
Here’s a very important fact: wow, this song came out back in 1986, quite some time ago! However, they performed it live later on during the 2000s, around 2006. There are also several rock bands that cover this song.
One of the most notable covers is by Apocalyptica, who play it with cellos. This band covers many other Metallica songs as well—I highly recommend checking them out!
This track reminds me of classical music due to its combination of heavy thrash metal riffs and harmony. The guitar and bass work at their own pace, moving through explosive shifts as well as calm moments. If you put on a good pair of headphones and want a boost of motivation, Orion is a great choice.
Thank you so much for reading my post about the legendary rock band Metallica and their iconic song Orion. See you very soon in another upcoming post in Music!
