@mundohispano, together with our friends @brujita18 and @annafenix, are calling on us to share our stories. As it’s October, let’s let go of the fears we carry inside; perhaps they’re hidden pieces of advice, or maybe some of you will want to try them out to see if they’re true or just a myth. Join this initiative by clicking on the following link ➡️ Share your Halloween story with us

Celebrating Halloween 🎃 has never really been a big deal for me: I don’t get stressed about fancy dress, make-up or sweets to hand out. The thing is, as a lover of the paranormal, I prefer to sit it out and not go out on ‘trick-or-treat’ rounds with my daughters. If they want sweets, well, there’ll be sweets at home. And… noooo! I’m not a grumpy old woman; rather, I’m a witch who believes that this night holds more mysteries than fun and laughter.

But as everything in life has a known beginning and an as yet unknown end, let’s start with the former.

Several years ago now, I was in charge of organising a trick-or-treat walk around the block. The neighbourhood where I live tends to be filled with a strange energy on the night of 31 October.

I led the procession, with all the children behind me; the youngest ones were holding onto my tail. You see, yours truly was dressed as a cat with ears, whiskers, a bell and a long tail which, incidentally, I’d made myself.

1000048470.jpg

In the middle of the line walked my younger brother alongside our cousin, both the same age. Their costumes were zombie outfits, and I’d dressed them up myself: I used old clothes that I’d torn up with scissors, put talcum powder in their hair, used more talcum powder and cream on their faces, and drew wounds on them with eyeliner. There you go: two terrifying zombies.

1000048471.jpg

Everyone was given sweets, including me, and we were even given money at some houses — which made me feel extremely embarrassed. But, at the end of the day, that was nothing compared to what was about to happen.

As we were walking with the children, knocking on doors, reciting our lines and throwing confetti at anyone who didn’t give us sweets, I noticed something strange at the back of the queue: there were three children I didn’t recognise.

1000048472.jpg

I naively thought that these little ones had joined the group at some point along the way. However, for some reason, nobody was giving them sweets and they weren’t carrying any bags either. In my eagerness to help, I thought about offering them my own bag so we could share.

The reality was completely different. When the trick-or-treating was over, we stayed at the entrance to the road where the mothers were waiting. All the children ran towards them, except for those three little ones. I went over to tell them that I would give them some of my sweets.

1000048473.jpg

They smiled at me, said nothing and turned away. Suddenly, a lorry rumbled past on the street; I was distracted for a second and, when I looked back, they were gone. I asked the older children at the back of the queue, and they assured me that they were the last ones: there was never anyone else behind them.

It was then that I realised that perhaps they weren’t children from this world, but souls seeking to enjoy the one day when the paranormal becomes possible. For when 31 October meets 1 November, shadows wander between both worlds, crossing the limbo as if it were child’s play.

That’s why I prefer not to take my daughters out trick-or-treating. You never know whether the child walking beside you is actually alive or has stepped out of their own dimension to enjoy themselves… or to spread fear.

“Just so you can see I’m not lying: here’s the evidence of that night’s ‘crime’, dressed as a cat 🐈‍⬛😂 – feel free to have a good laugh 🤣”

I’d like to invite my friends @amigoponc, @avdesing and @popurri to take part in this initiative.

Bendiciones.
