One of the things I always look at when deciding to watch a movie is its cast. There will be some where I don't recognize anyone, but there are others where, when you see who's in them, certain expectations are automatically created. With this film, the latter happens. Seeing the three actors who appear, all well-known for action movies, and even high-quality ones, I'd say, makes you think that what you're about to see will be good and worthwhile. Fuze is certainly a heist movie, as the title suggests, and for many, it will be just another run-of-the-mill heist film. But these kinds of movies have something that makes them entertaining: the planning, the execution, and the escape, but with the certainty that something is always going to go wrong. And in this story, we have that and more.
Una de las cosas que siempre miro cuando me decido a ver una película es su elenco, habrán algunas en donde no conozca a nadie pero hay otras que cuando ves quienes actúan, de manera automática, se crean ciertas expectativas. Con este film me pasa lo segundo, al ver los tres actores que aparecen, todos reconocidos por películas de acción y hasta de calidad diría yo, uno piensa que lo que está a punto de ver será bueno y valdrá la pena. Fuze ciertamente es un película acerca de un robo, como lo dice el titulo, y para muchos será una más del montón pero este tipo de films tiene algo que los hace entretenidos; la preparación, el desarrollo y el escape pero con la certeza de que algo siempre va a salir mal. Y en esta historia tenemos eso y más.
We find ourselves in the heart of London, just as construction workers make an unusual discovery. They unearth an unexploded World War II bomb buried underground. Obviously, this poses a major danger, as the slightest touch could trigger an explosion. Faced with this threat, the police order a mass evacuation of the entire perimeter and surrounding area to safely disarm the bomb. This causes chaos and confusion, which a group of five men exploits to pull off the heist of their lives. It's quite a coincidence that construction workers find a bomb and evacuate the area precisely when they begin the robbery. Well, coincidences don't exist.
Nos ubicamos en la ciudad de Londres, en su mero centro, justamente cuando obreros de una obra de construcción hacen un hallazgo inusual. Resulta que consiguen una bomba de la Segunda Guerra Mundial sin explotar bajo tierra. Obviamente esto representa un peligro máximo porque al más mínimo contacto todo podría explotar. Ante esa amenaza la policía ordena una evacuación masiva de todo el perímetro y sus alrededores para poder hacer el desarme sin que haya riesgos. Esto causa mucho caos y desconcierto en la gente el cual es aprovechado por un grupo de cinco hombres para hacer el robo de sus vidas. Mucha casualidad que unos obreros encuentren una bomba y desalojen la zona justamente al momento de comenzar a hacer el robo. Pues las casualidades no existen.
It turns out that for the disarmament and eventual controlled explosion, an army team is called in to carry out the operation. There we meet Major Tranter (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), a man with an obvious authority problem who doesn't like being questioned about anything (he has his reasons). The thing is, things don't go as planned, and the robbery suffers setbacks, so from here the drama and suspense begin as they try to find those responsible. The film's premise is that there are hands behind the robbery that aren't immediately visible, so part of the plot unfolds to uncover the true masterminds behind the heist. Among the robbers are Theo James and Sam Worthington, the other two actors we haven't mentioned yet. As the story progresses, we realize that there are many secrets among those involved, leading to complete distrust.
Resulta que para el desarme y la eventual explosión controlada llaman a un equipo del ejercito para que sean ellos los encargados de realizar dicho operativo. Ahí conoceremos al Mayor Tranter (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), un tipo con un problema evidente de autoridad que no le gusta que le cuestionen nada, (tiene sus razones). El tema es que las cosas no salen como se esperaba y el robo sufre contratiempos por lo que a partir de acá comienza el drama y el suspenso por dar con los responsables. La premisa del film es que detrás del robo hay manos que a simple vista no se ven por lo que parte de la trama trata de ir desarrollándose para dar con las verdaderas mentes que estuvieron detrás del atraco. Entre los ladrones están Theo James y Sam Worthington, los otros dos actores que faltaban por nombrar. A medida que avanza la historia nos vamos dando cuenta que hay muchos secretos entre los involucrados lo que llevará a una desconfianza total.
As I mentioned before, being a heist and escape movie makes it very easy to watch because there's always something happening. Add to that the mistrust, betrayals, and plot twists—and there are several—and the story becomes very enjoyable. Little by little, things are revealed, piecing together the puzzle and helping you understand what's really going on. Beyond the action, which is definitely present, I think what predominates is the intrigue and suspense, especially during the robbery; the tension of the police discovering everything, along with the fact that the bomb could explode at any moment, makes the experience very interesting. It's also worth mentioning that there comes a point where everything becomes a bit predictable; you can guess where things are headed, and the element of surprise might be slightly diminished.
Como ya les comentaba al ser una película de robos y escapes se hace muy fácil de ver porque siempre está pasando algo. Si a esto le sumamos la desconfianza, las traiciones y los plot twist que hay, porque hay varios, la trama se hace muy disfrutable. Poco a poco se van descubriendo cosas para ir armando el rompecabezas y así entender lo que realmente está pasando. Más allá de la acción, que la hay, creo que lo que predomina es la intriga y el suspenso, sobretodo en el momento del robo; esa tensión de que la policía descubra todo junto con el hecho de que la bomba pueda explotar en cualquier momento vuelve la experiencia muy interesante. También hay que decir que llega un momento en que todo se hace un poco evidente, uno imagina para donde van las cosas y puede que la sorpresa se pierda ligeramente.
The acting is good; it's one of those movies that doesn't need great performances because the genre is very superficial. What really matters is the plot development. The ending is different from what you might expect; there's always a way these films end, but I think this one breaks that rule. I liked it because, at this point, we also see plot twists with some characters. I think a phrase that fits this movie well is "not everything is what it seems"; perhaps that's why it's so entertaining. It's not a bad film at all; it's the typical heist story where greed and personal agendas end in pure distrust, making us doubt absolutely everyone. Recommended; it's worth watching, especially since it's only an hour and a half long. I'll leave the trailer here.
Las actuaciones están bien, es de esas películas que no necesitan grandes interpretaciones porque el género es muy superficial, lo que realmente vale es el desarrollo de la trama. El final es diferente al que se puedan imaginar, siempre hay una forma en la que estos films terminan, creo que acá no se cumple esa regla. A mi me gustó porque también a estas alturas vemos plot twist con algunos personajes. Creo que una frase que le queda bien a esta película es que "no todo es lo que parece"; quizás por eso es tan entretenida. Para nada es un mal film, es la típica historia del robo que por la codicia y planes personales terminan en desconfianza pura haciéndonos dudar de absolutamente todo el mundo. Recomendada, si vale la pena verla además de que es una película de hora y media. Les dejo el tráiler por acá.
