A few days ago, someone I know got a job from someone, and the job significantly improved the finances of this person. They were from earning averagely to earning decently.
So I asked the person who got the job for the person if the guy called to appreciate him in any way, and he said the person never called. I was a bit disappointed, because the person who was given the job never asked for it.
The guy who found the job just thought of that guy, and felt he could make do with that job, and found it for him. It's something to get a help you never asked for, it's another thing to ask for help and get it.
The first set of people are special breeds, and I'm not sure we have 0.001% of people like that in the world. As a person that helped you without you even asking, you have to be indebted. A simple "thank you" goes a long way, and you can even offer more gestures of appreciation that goes beyond "thank you"
I think it's an act of insensitivity to ignore people who help you. It shows what this post is all about. A lot of people in this world are insensitive, they are shallow at thought, don't understand the importance of self-introspection, they just exist, live, and act without having moments where they think deep about the situations around them.
Being a shallow thinker is one of the greatest injustice you can ever do to yourself and others around you.
Not simply caring about gestures, people and everything will not just teach you a bitter lesson in life, but when you live without understanding the art of "paying it forward" or understanding how to appreciate people, then you'll probably never go a long way in life.
You'll find it difficult to build relationships that lasts, you'll never realize when you meet good people, you'll lose them easily because of being insensitive and nonchalant.
There aren't a lot of good people in life.
Sometimes it's either by design or not by design. People can be intentionally or unintentionally wicked, and the difference is being intentional enough to make up for what you've done to others.
You should never underappreciated good people, it's honestly a wicked thing to do.
Inasmuch as we think "being good" isn't because you're expecting another good to be done to you, but the reality is that some bad people were once good people, they only stopped being good people because of the reaction of others, or how their goodwill was repaid.
Imagine lending someone some money when they were under water, but they decided not to pay up their debt.
A ripple effect
Paying good people people back in kinder ways will create the reassurance that it still pays to be good, and I can't imagine being so nonchalant to a person who got me a job that significantly improves my finances.
Not add to it, not a little wage, but takes your finances from ground zero and makes it really better.
Now, being insensitive is a other act of being a bad person. I think this is because the present reality of life makes people mindless, and this mindlessness takes away their humanity.
Relationships exist for some reasons: sacrifices, collaboration, effort and contributions. When someone you ain't expect anything from shows you act of kindness, they don't just deserve your appreciation, they deserve you being good to them in ways which they cannot be good to themselves.
This is holding oneself to being responsible, if people holds themselves responsible in everything they do, then it'll be most very difficult to treat people rightly.
A template that works
One of the things that rich people always do that makes them rich, is spot gems in rough places.
When they do, they empower these people, make them comfortable, and watch them print for them.
While this doesn't really compare to being grateful or paying back an act of kindness, the idea is that good people are rare, and you should treat them as an asset instead of a one-time ticket to climb a ladder.
Life is literally filled with people who are like this. They see the goodwill of others as a gateway ticket to climb the ladder of life, and they forget that playing the longer game is more important than anything.
Assets not tools
This is why it's important to see good people as assets instead of tools. Their goodwill should be treated as a gift instead of opportunity. Keep them close instead of keeping them at arm's length.
Think of ways to be beneficial to them as well, and to be honest, a lot of people will be indebted to you as much as you're indebted to them. Now, while it's important to be randomly good at will without much expectations.
It's important to understand that your life will be significant better when you have people who will think about you, will not be scared of taking risks for you, because this is everything about life.
People who can take risks for you without being concerned that it might be detrimental to them, aren't just ladders, they're the core ingredients of life, especially when you understand how important and valuable quality relationships are.
Say "thank you" when it's due. Show appreciations constantly. Let them know they've done a incredible thing for you, don't be proud in front of people who took risks for you, that horrible attitude might just pass the message that "being good does not pay"
