Paragliding in paradise, Wilderness Garden Route, south coast of Africa

20251206_143625[1].jpg Outdoor nature sports lovers will adore this epic travel destination on the far south coast of Africa, and I got a chance to capture some epic photos of the paragliders there recently. 20251206_143621[1].jpg The wind conditions were just right for these young and therefore brave adventure seekers and extreme sports lovers. This region known as the Garden Route, on the south coast of Africa is the best tourist destination in the land for this kind of outdoor adventure sports and exploration. 20251206_143628[1].jpg Luckily today I had the guidance of an old local who could take me to this hidden hideaway view point which is just perfect for watching the paragliders sail by this afternoon. 20251206_145922[1].jpg If you love the outdoor nature travel destinations, then this coastline is definitely for you. I'm happy to watch the younger folks do the flying about under those little strings and that flimsy cloth. My perch was just right for catching some awesome photos where sometimes the gliders were lower down than we were, as they sailed below our feet. 20251206_150008[1].jpg This place is easy to find and is on the main highway called N2, running all along the southernmost coastline of Africa. In the middle you will find Wilderness, and just beside the Holiday Inn hotel on the shoreline, you will find this little beach and cliffside, where the paragliders launch when the breeze is right. 20251206_145924[1].jpg I was so lucky that conditions were just right for the paragliders today. I have been here in the past when the wind was hectic and no such gliding was possible. So these photos today are quite rare treasure for the collection. 20251206_145956[1].jpg

Some of these guys were real experts, I could see they way they handled there paragliders by the strings. And others had nice bags to recline in while they flew. It really looked quite cozy. Don't ask me how they land, I presume they just float down to the ground with their parachute. 20251206_150014[1].jpg What a pleasure. They best joy in the world is to fly like a bird wherever you like, or at least where the wind takes you in this case. Engineering has come far enough where we now have lightweight materials that are still strong enough to carry our weight. Leonardo Da Vinci would be proud of us, flying like he predicted hundreds of years ago.

20251206_150046[1].jpg Whether you're a participant or a photographer, this Garden Route region of the African continent is really worth exploring. It has so much beauty and facility on offer in such a small space of land. 20251206_150106[1].jpg High on life 20251206_150108[1].jpg Free as a bird 20251206_154849[1].jpg Impossible without the guide 20251206_154855[1].jpg A joy for young and old alike 20251206_154919[1].jpg Photos my own.

Your guide looks like he has a matrix plug in his arm. Wtf is that?! :)

I did that paragliding thing when I was young and more (and less in other ways) free.

Nice to see you gettin' around the Garden Route
