This microfiction story is for the prompt "not another loan". It reminds me of individuals who prey upon desperate people that are in a financial bind. I remember some decades ago the concept of predatory lending was prevalent. The government did it's best to hinder businesses from this practice.
One such practice was people taking out loans against their cars. This practice was called "title loans". Of course, the loan payment was was exorbitant. When the payment was due, if the person didn't have the funds, they'd be heavily penalized or risk losing their vehicle.
I'm reminded of a friend who took out such a loan, then lost her job. A sad situation in that she also lost her vehicle with no resources to repay the loan. On top of that, she lost the only means to search for another job. I was happy to hear that this practice is no longer acceptable. I hope my story aligns with this concept. A ZAPFIC50 story is told in exactly 50 words. The challenge was created by @felt.buzz.

Below is my story.
"Not another loan, Jacob. We're already behind on the current one,**" Amy pleaded.
"We've no choice. Savings gone. Emergency fund, depleted. Vehicles need repairs; otherwise we'll lose our jobs and can't pay the existing loan."
"But 39% interest. That's predatory lending."
"Banks denied us. Do you have another way, Amy?"

«Otro préstamo no, Jacob.
