Snapshots and Random Thoughts

I haven’t posted in awhile, not a lot to say I guess.. well that’s not true, I always have a lot to say.. but I guess nothing I felt was beneficial to say.

I’ve also not taken any photos in awhile, or anything else creative.. life has just been really busy. And when I’m here, on Hive, I’m just keeping my head down and trying to help all I can to get things on the right foot along with all the others.

So there is stuff I want to say.. as I am probably this project biggest critic, you could call it a love/hate relationship, but somehow here I am.. On one hand I spend hours every day trying to help it, while on the other having such a hard time with so many aspects of it. So many flaws I don’t want to see redone, so many obstacles that need to be overcome.

I don’t know how to say those things without sounding negative.. but since I broke out the camera recently (my goodness I’m out of practice), I thought I would break out some completely random freewrite thoughts as well.. as nothing else seemed fitting.. so here goes nothing...

This community has been through a lot, and there is a ton that needs to be overcome. One thing that was very important to me was that this community had a choice, not a forced migration. Above all else, that’s why I am here.. and I’m happy to see that this community came together to ensure that happened.. and here we are.

So what happens now? We all know the flaws, we all know the improvements needed.. and somehow the community is going to have to figure out how to solve them, together.

Content discovery is horrid, focus on rewards makes this place no fun, we have no marketing, signups are difficult, the site is over complicated... I could go on and on.

But I think its pretty freaking amazing that for the first time ever, these issues actually seem solvable.

But someone has to solve them...

Currently there is a core group of people still working to set Hive up for the community. So much base layer aspects are still being worked on that are vital for longterm success.

So while I wish instead of spending hours dealing with exchanges, I instead was spending hours curating content.. some shit needs to be done first.. and I hope the community sees that - the fact that this is still brand new and so many are working hard to set the foundation of this platform so then the community can run with it. I hope that hasn’t been forgotten or replaced with frustration for not seeing instant results.

And I hope, more than anything, that the community realizes that all those things they want to see fixed.. all those flaws, yeah they aren’t going to fix themselves.. and the only one who can fix them.. is the community.

There is a ton of work to be done, and everyone will have to play their part. There may be some who put in proposals or just form groups and get it done.. after all, Hive wasn’t born because a group put in a proposal, it was born because a group saw a need and got shit done.. to ensure this community could move forward.

We all play our part, and we can’t depend on others to fix it all.. sometimes we are the ones who have to get shit done.

So while I would like to bitch about the shit that’s not done, the shit that still needs to be done, or the fact that I think every single person still interacting on Steem is helping Justin Sun and therefore showing support of the actions being done there (including the blocking of our fellow community members of their valid stake) ... instead I’m going to remind myself that shit takes time.

It’s like a break up after all.. and sometimes it takes time to leave that abusive ex for good. Shit takes time.

While I’d like to state how I still don’t have faith in the DPoS governance and that I think the rewards pool is so flawed I’d like to throw it out the window... I have to remind myself that shit takes time. And this is about building something new.. which comes with bumps along the way.

So I guess my random thoughts will lead me to asking the same of you - to realize shit takes time.

And to remind you that all those flaws and things you don’t like here, no one can fix them but us... we all play a part.

This community has shown its strength for standing up for what it believes in.. now it’s time to work together to make something better than where we came from..

But shit takes time.

I’m not sure what that means for me, if anything at all.. but I’m going to do my best to help fix some of the flaws.. until my love/hate relationship finds its final conclusion.

I hope you all will be working to do the same, or at least show patience to those that are.. as things don’t happen over night.. but to me, it already looks a hell of a lot better than where we came from, and I hope you agree.

There are problems yes but it no longer seems futile and people can make a difference now. Which is the main thing.

Shit takes time @justineh.

That's just a fact of life. You can move across the country and into a new home and make it look presentable in a couple of weeks... but it'll likely take a year or more before everything is actually in the places we really want them and we start feeling even moderately happy with the place as a true home.

In the meantime, we'll spend a bunch of energy on working, AND a bunch of energy on the process of "I really need to get THAT done, and THIS done..."

Frankly, I think it's a miracle that Hive came together as well as it did, as fast as it did.

Of course, one of the greatest dangers is to grow complacent with the relief that we somehow made it. No we didn't. We just started it. But at least — as you alluded to — we started down a road where the myriad problems (and I agree they are legend) might actually be addressed and handled... in time.

Because shit takes time. ALL shit takes time. Not just Hive and blockchain shit...

I appreciate you creating this post @justineh. It’s a forum for all of us to come together and discuss what’s wonderful, what’s working and what’s not or what could be better!

I think that your right though... this is all going to take time.

But here’s the thing. Humans working collectively can do far more than what one centralized entity can do... if we organize ourselves effectively.

It’s my experience that people often over estimate what they can do in the short term and under estimate what they can do over the long term. Multiply and compound that out by an entire community and you can see how important momentum is going to be for the Hive Blockchains furtherance and prosperity!

I heard mention of a road map awhile ago... has one been collectively put together yet?

I think that the question is really more about how much time.

For me wishy washy words get wishy washy results so clearly defining what needs to happen point by point is an absolute MUST... especially in a community driven decentralized project like this one!

It's taken me a while to fully get what happened and seeing the results on my own blogs but Hive is a vast improvement that I'll be focusing on now. I understand there's still a load of shit to get done on the base level but to get it pretty much fully functioning from the word go with everything that's going on globally... that's some good shit 😃

I've got some ideas but they are probably more on the usability side which I'll ask about once the functionality side is up to speed.

I'd be interested to know your ideas about simplifying things and what the marketing drive should be?

I had an idea about the sign-up process that I mentioned to @slobberchops, something like:

"Sign up with FB, you get automatic HIVE account creation with all the relevant keys somehow integrated in but 2FA is a must for making wallet transfers and important things like that. So maybe something like:

Logging in with FB/Google = posting key 2FA = active key Forgot Your Password = account recovery/owner key

Not sure how the Master Key would work, maybe it's just the password emailed over on sign-up with instructions on how to keep it in a safe place?"

I have no idea if this is even possible to do but trying to think of at least the the first step to onboard.

Doesn't look bad for a new start :=). I feel pretty comfortable here, colors and design look cool, especially in night mode ... which I always use ... and is great to see all those curation communities without which I would have felt pretty hopeless on Steemit, working here. I'm also very glad to see SteemStem, in the new StemSocial version. And I don't know exactly why, because I don't understand everything about the underlying economy and technology behind all this, but I have strong optimistic sensation ... maybe is just the springtime and all the warm, community oriented talk ... anyway, I think this platform will be very cool and prosperous in the following years. I think this " leave it to community" recipe will work fine.

I'm with Asher on the revised title thing...Shit takes time is more legit a title...

So, yep, it's flawed, like all of the users...Every single (human) one, and so those flaws are going to find their way into the zeros and ones that make up the blockchain. Let's hope people give it the time to mature, and are mature enough themselves to understand that negative-talk (posts) will bring negative results.

Anyway, enough about that shit...Nice to see you post, and always good to see your shots.

I am enjoying Hive, the official hive colors are much more appealing to me than the old Steem colors.

Was not too active in Steem, neither I an in Hive. The first post I "watched" from you was your long story video about the "transition" a couple of weeks ago.

Today, reading this post, I was captivated by the cabin photo. I keep looking at it, it is just fascinating. It reminds me of when I was a kid, always wanting to build one of those to play with my brothers during the summer break.

You may show that cabin to an older person and tell him/her he has to spend the next years living there and 99% will refuse it, but a few ones will see it as a great opportunity to start from scratch, having a chance to grow free in the middle of nature and just enjoy life while doing so.

Look at the photo and just smile.
